Official: Prince of Persia Next-Gen Thread

This is true.

Oh, and Prince of Persia got a 3 out of 5 on X-Play, if anyone cares. That was a surprisingly low score to me.
X-Play is one of the worst when it comes to reviewing games. Their scores are all over the place. They are either too generous or too harsh. Plus they tend to be too short and waste too many times telling jokes to really give valid insight on how they come up with their scores

I really felt this game was lacking something.....oh that's right, the fun the other 3 games had. The game was boring and after a few days of hours and hours of playing, i needed to return this game.

Bring back the Prince from The Sands of Time trilogy.

I was looking forward to this, but my friend told me you only have a handful of battles and they are all just against bosses. No henchmen or anything else to fight against. What the hell?

well no, you do fight against henchmen at the beginning of the game. And i do mean that, because once you head toward the main area of the game, forget the henchmen battles. From there on it's all, what I like to call, level bosses. And they are so boring.

Really, once you have Elika, just press the Y button over and over and you'll win the fight. It's not fun and you don't feel like you're really in the battle as ubisoft claimed at points during the process of the games release and pre-release.

If you ask me, and you haven't, but I personally think that ubisoft really dropped the ball with this game. Everything that was fun with the previous 3 games was missing from this one. The prince is uninteresting and Elika was the only reason I would've continued to play the game. But the problems with this game stopped me from wanting to see where the Prince and Elika ended up.

I hate to say it, but this game here was one of the most disappointing games of 2008. What a massive let down.

Yeah, the boss battles were a total b**** to me until I realized that the bosses never, ever, ever block Elika unless they're glowing for one of the specific other attacks. So instead of stupidly thinking the not-prince might actually be competent with his sword and leading with that, I started beginning every combo with Elika and the boss battles virtually played themselves. If you button-mash after Elika, the imprecision of the controls basically gives you a surprise combo, so at least that is kind of fun.

Oh yes my mistake here, I forget that when they are glowing, it's actually time for the Prince (american style-what the ****?) to use his weapon.

Should I get this?

Did you enjoy the Sands of Time trilogy? If you did, then don't get this game.

Did you enjoy Ico and Shadow of the Colossus? If you did, then get this game.

I personally couldn't stand Ico and Shadow of the Colossus was an overrated game. Looked stunning, had great controls, but was boring to actually play.

Absolutely NOT true. I'm a huge fan of ICO/SotC and I REALLY didn't like this...

Though I'm also a fan of most of the SoT trilogy (guess which part I'm NOT a fan of).

I don't understand how people are comparing this to Ico or Shadow of the Colossus. They're not even remotely similar in any way that I can see beyond the fact that you have a companion in Ico and you have a companion in the new PoP, and even then, the companions' roles are totally different in both the gameplay and the story.

Basically, if you like platforming, this game's pretty fun, but you should probably stick to just renting rather than buying because it's not that long and there's no real reason to play it more than once.

I don't think any feelings either way about the PoP series thus far factor into it. I loved The Sands of Time, thought Warrior Within was an okay game with a terrible story, and was mostly just bored with The Two Thrones, but I liked the story in the new PoP, disliked the not-Prince himself, and was kind of split on Elika.

I'm not saying if you liked the SoT trilogy then you'll like this, but if you enjoy the characters, settings etc, you should give this game try, chances are there will be something there you like. It was for me. I enjoyed the stories and platforming of the last titles, its why i knew to pick up this game. I do think that the orig trilogy was better, at this point, but i thoroughly enjoyed this game.

I had a lot of fun for the first half of my playthrough. But the repetitive gameplay, streamlined platforming, not fun combat, and unlikable prince really started to grind on me in my stretch to the finish. I don't know why more people aren't complaining how repetitive this game is, when it was the complaint about Assassin's Creed. How many towers do I need to climb up in order to fight someone and then climb back down? Yeesh. PoP felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again, much more so then AC (Which I love)

I hope they don't just cut and paste for the sequel and actually do some changes.

It didn't feel as repetitive to me as Assassin's Creed, to be honest. When you enter a new area, yeah, you know you're going to basically deal with exactly the same situation: make your way through the corruption, fight a boss, clear the corruption, retread the whole area to collect light seeds, rinse, repeat. But the areas themselves had enough variety that it didn't get repetitive to me. Plus, the different combinations of magic pads you have to use give you even more variety, since you view the areas in new ways using each of those. The new PoP gave a better illusion of variety, I guess.

Eh, the Blue pad was just a stranger version of the Red pad, and the flying Yellow pad was awful, imo. It wasn't fun to control and the effects made it hard to look at.

I forget which corrupted it was, but one of them had like 90% of their levels being a tower you went up. I heard a lot about variety in the environments but it really didn't land for me. Open space, water below, cliffs, weird mechanical gadgets, etc.. that's pretty much the variety in half of them.

I was excited to play this game, and like I said my first half was loads of fun, it just lost steam completely when I realized that it wasn't going to change. Even the Corrupted didn't really change as your progressed, reviews said they did, but I really didn't notice much difference.

They got harder and had more of those glowy "use this attack!" effects, but basically if you just used the right attack when they glowed and Elika the rest of the time, they were pretty easy. Except the Warrior, who was a b**** to get into position sometimes. Stupid invincible bastard.

I never got any sense of repetitiveness, at least not any that hurt my experience. Altho, the same was true for Assassins Creed. I guess i spent too much time having fun with the amazing visuals and fun platforming to notice i was doing the same thing over and over again.

The stupid part about the Warrior, was if Elika was knocked out and he cornered you and started to stomp, she would instantly revive and help you push him away. However, if Elika was knocked out and you got him into position to knock him off the building, she wouldn't instantly revive and he would just kick you.

Game did have a repetitve design but like you, it didnt bother me. I think the open endedness as well as the varied and beautiful levels helped with that. I liked that the collecting in this game actually served a purpose unlike the one in AC.

My biggest complaint is that it was too easy and there isnt much replay value here. This is probably one of the few games that Ive actually gotten 100% in and it took less than 2 weeks to achieve that.

Yea i agree, i dont see myself going back through this unless i just want to relive the story again.

The reason I compared Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, to the new PoP was because from memory in SotC you fight maybe 12 Colossus (or is it Colossi?) in the entire game. The rest is exploration and in my own opinion, its very similar to the new PoP.

All three are amazing to look at, but for me, just not that enjoyable to play. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
