Someone over at TORn posted this, it's apparently from the BotFA Chronicles book. Maybe I should just wait for the the Extended Edition so I won't be disappointed in what I'm not seeing this in theaters.
Thorin's funeral!

Apparently these scenes from the trailers were not in the movie as well!

I knew about the ice chariot scene being cut, but had no idea the rest of those shots were cut...especially the Sauron shot. Jackson really did go at this film with a cleaver and a hatchet.

Another bit from the interview I linked to in an above post:

Jackson speaking about post-production of The Hobbit trilogy,

They probably should have stuck with their LOTR schedule. The Hobbit schedule resulted in some not quite finished VFX.

This explains a lot.

The Desolation of Smaug will probably be seen as the highlight of the trilogy. The RT scores reflect this.

AUJ = 64%
DOS = 74%
BOTFA = 58%

Just for fun, let's look at LOTR's scores...

FOTR = 91%
TTT = 96%
ROTK = 95%

In an odd way, I am somewhat heartened that some critics are calling it the way it is. In recent years, I have developed the suspicion that big franchises which rest on past laurels get an easy ride in the press.

TheOneRing is in full meltdown mode. The "agenda" talk regarding the RT score has already started.

I really don't see on what basis an agenda can be alleged. 74% for DoS suggests undue leniency, in my opinion.

Regwec and I need to meet up and discuss Tolkien and Batman over twenty four beers.

Good idea! I am still banned from the US after that little business about the weaponised hallucinogens, however.

My biggest complaint is that Alfrid should have had MUCH less screen time. I feel like that time could have been much better spent on another character.l

Who the very **** is "Alfrid"?

And I love when they are in the Great Hall and Gandalf extends his light and the camera pulls back and the music swells and the true size of the Hall is revealed. Still gets me every time... I cant help but rewind the movie and watch that scene a few times everytime I watch the movie.

That is a gorgeous moment, partly because it acts as a visual metaphor for the way that adaptations can shine a light into the dark recesses of the unimagined space around old stories.

How ironic.

The Master of Laketown's lackey man-servant tool. He gets a beefed up role in BTFA and gets a bit of an arc or something. Ya know, the kind of dramatic relevant thing that should [BLACKOUT]take precedence over the funeral of a lead character[/BLACKOUT].:o

I know Jackson liked the actor, but the character didn't need an arc. Some people are just kiss ass sycophants riding the coat tails of more successful people. He didn't need to be any more than that and he should have been incinerated by Smaug and that should have been the end of him.

When I zoomed in on that [BLACKOUT]funeral picture you can see Kili and Fili and Thorin laying down on raised platforms.[/BLACKOUT] Now we have to wait eleven months to finally see that scene. :(

I was wondering why that guy was in it so much. Got annoying very quickly.

Well, I'm ducking out of this thread for a couple days. Won't be able to see the movie until Saturday (assuming they ever add a showtime that works for us) and I don't want to be inadvertently be spoiled (I know most of you try to remember to use spoiler tags, but when a film just comes out, sometimes people accidentally slip :cwink:)

See ya this weekend (or elsewhere around the boards/other forums before then)

We need a joke about how Alfrid had to burn down Laketown.

I have to wait till next Tuesday. I'm all tied up with work until then. :csad:

the super HD crisp is not great. And now he's going for that Vasaline on the lense/Go-Motion look for the third film, and it just doesn't work.
Yeah, I just don't like the High frame rate or super HD.
To ME the only thing 1080 is good for is Screen Captures for better quality Art projects. Everything just looks like it's been cut out and pasted onto a background in 1080 and up

Except for the ram shots, none of those other cut shots from the trailers were missed. And the Sauron one may have been in it. There was plenty of Sauron stuff that looked just like that.

If you guys had to take a gander as to how much footage was cut, how much would you say in length was actually removed?

20? 40? Maybe even an hour?

I think it was about 40 removed

Wow that's quite a bit. I'm even debating whether or not I want to see something so heavily edited in theaters or just wait for the extended cut. The part that sucks about that is that I'll have to wait a whole year for that. :(

That's why I giggled when I saw them using "One Last Time" for this Film when the EE next year is out THEN it's One Last Time lol

And the "Middle Earth: Without the ****" super-short edition.

You think they will make a super cut trailer of all 3 Hobbit movies like with LOTR?

Well, movie was pretty bad. The battle sequences were just awful. Way too drawn out. No emotion. Just couldn't get into it. I think the romance angle took me out of the last two movies. AUJ at least had that adventure feel. But somehow it was all downhill from there.

Smaug was well done (CGI aside). Riddles in the Dark was the best part of the trilogy. But the rest of the trilogy, spare a handful of dispersed and fleeting moments, did not capture Middle Earth, and left a lot to be desired. Really disappointed in Peter Jackson. Really disappointed in WB's. But I guess they earned it after the first trilogy. Thanks for milking our wallets guys. Merry Christmas.

I thought Billy Connolly's face looked awfully fake in the movie. Just looked it up... apparently they CGI'd his mouth because he couldn't remember the lines on set due to Alzheimers. Okaaaaaay....

That reads like satire. Say it ain't so, Greens. But then again, go ahead. I couldn't care less at this point.

:csad: about Connolly.

:lmao: about their solution.

Yeah it's a sad situation. He recorded the lines in post-production and they lined the mouth up with his voice.

Dain looked like **** because of it! I thought "WHAT... why the hell did they use a CGI Dain?!"

Have I just dreamed this whole thing?
