Oh will have to give that a try then, thanks.

Kind of weird for me, I don't find myself to be a purist at all with the Hobbit films (much less attachment to the text, read it just the once and a hell of a long time ago) so can excuse many of the changes while I am for the LotR films. I can understand the changes made there even though many of my favourite (luxury) non-essential characters were cut. I thought they might make it onto the EE even as cameo like Gil-Galad & Elendil (the likes of Prince Imrahil, Glorfindel & the Sons of Elrond). And a Tom Bombadil cameo would have been nice for EE but I'm glad he wasn't included in the theatrical (sorry :O). Those chapters are entertaining in the book but they would really slow the film down to a halt.

Ouch....you shouldn't have reminded me. It drove me CRAZY when they replaced Glorfindel (must have been a different one than died during the fall of Gondolin while killing a Balrog) with Arwen during Flight to the Ford. Uggghhhhh.....

I don't have anything against Arwen, Liv Tyler certainly surprised me. But I'd have liked to see both of them with the benefit of EEs. They had to compact things for the theatrical I guess and the Bruinen scene is still cool.

It's not that I have anything against her per se and certainly Liv Tyler was pretty easy on the eyes. I mean, hey, what's not to like; daughter or Elrond and granddaughter of Galadriel. I guess they needed to fit her in somehow and that's what Jackson chose. Oh well.

Someone suggested a high quality mini-series based on the characters in The Silmarillion and I'd love to see that if someone could get the rights to it.

If they could get the visuals to a standard where it could live with the films I'd love that. I never thought it was possible on TV but Game of Thrones has shown it can be done. I believe the rights situation is extremely convoluted though. :csad:

Games of Thrones is still not even close to the epic scale Silmarillion would need.

It would cost some major dough, but could be done over a period of years and years and years. Most of the characters change because of the long timeline and, hey, let's face it, those are some pretty dangerous times and the mortality rate isn't exactly low.

The rights to it......yeesh.....I've heard that's basically not gonna happen. If they do it, PLEASE stick to the story. Please????

No but it's close to getting justice to a TV show version of it whereas TV shows were definitely not at that level of production standards when I was a kid. A GoT film for eg would be a lot more ambitious with much more extensive battle scenes but it doesn't mean a TV show can't be successful and even better in some ways. You have a lot more time to tell your story and spend time with your characters for one thing. Try condensing The Silmarillion to one film! Although I guess if PJ gets the chance he'll do it over 15 films. :woot:

Balin didn't die in the Chamber of Records. He was shot in the back by an orc outside of Moria while looking in the Mirrrormere. That was some time before Ori and the other dwarves were killed in the Chamber of Records.

Either way, it'd be a powerful way to show Balin's final moments. That's actually an extension of things to connect to Fellowship where I would have really liked to see. Balin was always my favorite of the dwarves.

But there is really no reason to show it. We who have watched FOTR already know what happens to Balin and it's revealed in FOTR. Remember that Jackson now considers this a 6 part saga. There is no reason to reveal Balin's fate in BTFA when it's got a great reveal in the very next film. For audience members who watch these films in order who have never seen FOTR they are gonna get quite the shock when it's revealed Balin died in Moria and is entombed in the room that the Fellowship is standing in. I can understand why Jackson wouldn't want to ruin that reveal for future viewers.

That is true, but I think from another perspective it still would have been still as emotional. Even if you don't have the suspense of not knowing, you still have the subtext from knowing and still understanding the emotion from Gimli's perspective. It just derives me wanting to see the dwarves getting a proper send off.

you may just have the best avatar on the hype

Rather than a straight up Silmarillion series, I wouldn't mind a The Children of Húrin mini-series or film.

I assume those have only the extended movies, none of the extras that were originally put out with the extended sets?
they have all the extras and bonus's Not sure of the HIDDEN easter eggs yet. One of the guys here says they ARE on the bluray set

Yeah all the Easter eggs are on the blu-rays as well.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I was somewhat surprised to come across a series of BTS photos of Martin, dressed as Bilbo, pulling out them middle fingers.lol the dude would seriously give stone cold steve austin a run for his flipping money

There's a gif of him flicking people off. It's so funny.

That would make more sense. As I have said before, many movies have been made which adapt Biblical stories, but I doubt anyone would be foolish enough to try to film the Bible as a whole.

Yeah and of all those various tales, Children of Húrin is kind of the most logical place to start. Certainly it'd be the easiest one to directly translate without too much alteration or expansion.

His eyes were mainly blue in the LOTR series it's just that PJ and company kept forgetting to put contacts on Bloom.

I believe that Orlando had really sensitve eyes, and had to have special contacts, and then one day, someone got the wrong ones and he started to have an alergic reaction to them, so Jackson just told him to keep them out. It's on one of the behind the scenes discs I believe that it's mentioned.

So folks, now that we've completed the "Hobbit" Trilogy, if you were to look back at the LOTR trilogy as well, which protagonist had the better "death scene" (sendoff) as a whole? Things to factor/consider would be the execution, no pun intended, of their respective sequence and the "feels" that it brought upon.lol
