There was nothing about the book that appealed to me other then the actual artwork when it debuted. I hated the character designs, I hated the characterization and I hated the stories.

Exact opposite from me. I enjoyed seeing the X-men NOT being stiffs for once (at the time). In fact I enjoy this and Astonishing X-men for the EXACT same reasons. The characters stand out more as opposed to characters like Storm and Jean or Bishop and Cyclops pretty much being interchangeable. Spice things up a little bit instead of waiting for the threat of the week. I like actual conflict between and within the characters themselves.

I love Astonishing X-Men for it's characterization. Unverse X-Men is just too shock for shock value to me. Or at least, it used to be when it first dropped.

I've never cared for the X-Men all that much at all.

See I've always favored team books but the regular X-titles have been so eratic in quality I'd keep picking them up and dropping them in record time. Astonishing and Ultimate are the only X-titles I've consistently bought because wether the story is good or bad, I can still enjoy the individual characters. Even if Ultimate X-men does most of it's stuff for shock I found it entertaining. One of my favorite moments in comics is still when Wolverine dropped Cyclops and left him for dead. The man redefined anti-hero. Now that Kirkman's writing him he's pretty much a clone of 616 though. :csad:

Kirkman does nothing good for UXM. I used to love it, too, but Kirkman has pretty much destroyed everything Millar, Vaughan, and heck, even Bendis did for the title.

As a result, I've stopped buying it.

Am I the only one who hates the way Joe Mad makes every person look like they take more steroids than Barry Bonds?

I don't really care how unrealistic he draws them if it looks good.

Most artists do. It's comics.

Joe Mad does it to the extreme. You're lying to yourself if you can't see the difference between Hitch's Captain America and Thor and Joe Mad's

I think that argument is valid for some comics, but The Ultimates is so much set in the real world that his ridiculously muscular characters will hurt it.

Considering the two of them have entirely different styles to their pencils, uh, that argument isn't exactly valid. But then, Hitch is kinda of in a world all his own.

It's like saying that Bryan Hitch and Humberto Ramos's renditions on the same characters would be different. No duh. Those two guys almost bridge the entire spectrum between Realism and Cartoon.

Did I say there was no differece? No, I didn't. I said this is comics, and that makes it the wrong place for normal anatomy.

Yes but I think the direction Loeb is going in is probably radically different to begin with, hence the use of Joe MAD for art. Using McGuiness for vol. 4 just further proves how radical this new direction that they're heading in is from the first two volumes of The Ultimates. I think they're pulling an Ultimate Fantastic Four and throwing realism out the window with this one.

OK, maybe this has been discussed already.
But I saw a video from Comic Con with Loeb talking about something that sounded like THE END of the Ultimate universe.

Is that true? Are they going to end all the Ultimate stuff?

It's Ultimate Origins, not Ultimate The End. So no, no end in sight for the Ultimate universe.

Ultimatum.

They (Loeb and crew) are calling it the "end of the BEGINNING" ... Not the end of the universe.....

Everything that has happened up until Ultimatum they are labeling as just the beginning of the universe. Now they say the universe is going to be dramatically changed (not ended though).

Something is going to deliver the planet an "ultimatum"...

And that is all we know about it thus far...

The Ultimates WAS (keyword) set deeply in the real world.

That was Ultimates 1/2 -- now there is a 3 next to the title.

New volume, new direction, new Ultimates.

Get like it or leave it. What else can you do? Oh yeah, sit on a message board and ***** and whine about how its not how you envisioned it...:whatever:
