That's barely a division. That's not even an eight-man tournament bracket. Here's UFC's welterweight roster:

http://www.ufc.com/fighter/Weight_Class/Welterweight?id=

did you even read what i wrote i said clearly it is not even close to the ufc roster but if it keeps improving as it has been with new signings it can be solid

its clearly the best division in bellator josh koscheck and melvin guillard while washed up these days are part of that division too

Not as long as Bellator tries to keep booking freak show fights like they do.

This video is another reason why I'm against fighters cutting too much weight. I do not like how Pettis looks cutting down to featherweight.

I thought the same thing. And how often does a fighter benefit or prolong their career by dropping a weight class? It's negligible

Donald does need to be paid better he got 85k to show 85k to win for UFC 202 thats low for a guy with 22 ufc fights ,a ufc record of 18-4 ,a former title challenger and a top 10 fighter in 2 different weight classes.

For all you know Cerrone could be getting paid extra with his lockerroom bonuses and signing bonuses. FYI, some of the bigger name fighters do get signing bonuses you know. When Alvarez was first offered a UFC contract, he was offered a $250,000 signing bonus.

Overeem also got a hefty signing bonus when he signed with the UFC.

IMHO, $85K/$85K isn't that bad for a guy who isn't a huge PPV draw and for a guy who has never been able to win the big one.

For his fight against Cote, his total DISCLOSED pay was $234K. That's show and win, performance bonus and Reebok payout. Now that doesn't include taxes and deductions, but he could've gotten other money from a club after party appearance or elsewhere.

Cerrone always brings it. I'm sure all of his post fight bonuses are a nice sum too

I love Cerrone. He's my favorite fighter in the UFC. But the fact is, he said what he said, but he also said that UFC is his home and that's where he wants to say.

He apparently re-upped for an eight-fight deal. Now I'm not sure what he's getting, but if he re-upped, and he's not happy with the numbers, that's on him. I hope he does get a nicer sum out of that deal because as you said he always brings it. He almost always has an exciting UFC fight. Now he's doing amazingly well at welterweight. He could be a contender there I think.

But the fact is, he's staying in the UFC for now. He could've fought out his contract and tried out free agency, but he didn't.

nate diaz made a good point on donald on why he does'nt make as much as he should

Nate Diaz Blasts Donald Cerrone, Calls on Fighters to “Start Acting Like a Businessman”
“Treat yourself like a business and quit *****ing (saying) ‘I’ll fight for free,’” Diaz said. “That don’t help nobody. That’s bad karma for you for even *****ing (saying that). Stupid ass Cowboy Cerrone says that *****. That’s bad karma for everybody. You’ll fight for free, now everybody else has got to? Why wouldn’t they pay us? Because they got dumb*****s like you fighting for free. Start acting like a businessman and start treating yourself like a business and get your ass paid for being in an Octagon. The whole world watches you fight.

“….Baseball players. These guys are getting paid millions of dollars, and we’re entertaining the entertainers. So doesn’t that make us the crème de la crème? Shouldn’t we be paid the ***** out? Why are you fighting for free, you dumb***** mother*****er. That ***** gets on my last nerve.”

Nate Diaz has a point, but he still acts like a blithering and unprofessional idiot. Complains about not getting paid enough, then fails to make weight. Complains about not getting paid enough then pulls stupid antics at press conferences and acts like an immature thug and gets fined.

Complains that UFC would renegotiate his deal midway through, but doesn't get it in writing.

Smokes Cannabis at a post-fight press conference and tells the whole world that he's smoking CBS.

I think my point is this. Nate Diaz has no idea on how to truly conduct his business like a true businessman. He's not one to throw stones at Donald Cerrone considering some of his unprofessional conduct.

thats called selling the fight that press conference bit probably got even more interest in the ppv

I go back and forth on the Diaz brothers. Deep down, I think they have a gang mentality. But what kind of gang would let Jake Shields in?

Also, I get Donald Cerrone's point as well. He loves fighting. It's what he loves to do. I've spoken to some fighters who got into this business when there was no money. They basically did it for free. And the reason they did it is because they love it.

Now maybe that's not smart. Or maybe that's not great business sense. But for some MMA fighters, MMA is more than just a career. It's their outlet. Or it's their passion. Now could there be flaws or varying degrees to that? Yeah. But that doesn't make them wrong necessarily.

Now maybe these guys could make more money in another profession, but they don't want to do those professions. They don't want to be a janitor, or a teacher or a carpenter. They want to do MMA. This is what they chose to do. Guess what. Guys who get into the entertainment business to become an actor, not all of them are going to have great careers or going to take off. Not everyone is going to become Tom Cruise. Not every model will become Cindy Crawford. I'm not saying they shouldn't try, that's just sort of how tough and competitive it is.

I think to become a successful MMA fighter, besides talent and practice, you have to really love fighting to some degree as well.

Chris Weidman would probably make more money as a professional hockey player, but he couldn't hack it in hockey. He tried to get into the NHL, and it didn't work out for him. He's a tremendous athlete, but he couldn't make it as a hockey player. Yet as a UFC fighter, he was able to forge a career path and use his athletic talents and experience as a collegiate wrestler that way.

Paige VanZant pulled off a sweet finish tonight. That was a highlight reel kick. Outstanding. Glad to see her pull that out. A lot of people were doubting her dedication after that loss to Rose Namajunas. You will win and lose in this sport. That's the reality. One loss doesn't make you terrible.

Demain Maia has absorbed 13 strikes in his past 4 fights

VanZant's KO was a thing of beauty and Pettis/Oliveira was fantastic.

Demian Maia at WW is a different animal, at MW the bigger guys were bullying him & shrugging off his grappling attempts. But at WW he's now big enough to be doing the bullying & he's like a snake when he gets hold of people. The fact that he was able to do that to Condit in so little time, while it shows Maia's undoubted skill, it shows how far Condit has fallen that he was able to take him down so effortlessly.

Anthony Pettis looked good in his FW debut making a big statement, dispite the submission win the only negative about his performance was that had Oliveira kept it standing he might have been able to hurt Pettis, he gassed himself out I feel & his 2nd & 3rd rounds he was worryingly slow that some of the more dangerous strikers in the FW division probably would have taken advantage of. I do think though FW is his rightful home, he'll be a big boy, but as long as he's not finding the cut difficult he's better as he won't get bullied or smothered as much by bigger opponent.

The FW division is hotting up although I don't feel there's any clear cut challengers aside from Aldo. Edgar, Holloway, Pettis & Swanson need to fight amongst themselves for a someone to emerge from the pack for a crack at the winner of McGregor/Aldo or Aldo himself if McGregor vacates & moves to LW.

Maia's performance against Nelson was a thing of absolute wonder. It's even moreso when you consider in just how good Gunnar Nelson is, he's a legit black belt & one of the best grapplers at WW & Damian Maia made him look like a novice.

Gunnar Nelson apparently can make LW & even though he's done well at WW, he'd be able to reep the same reward Maia has at WW.

Well said Stephen Thompson, Woodley needs to stop thinking he's like Anderson Silva or Conor McGregor being able to challenge & fight whoever he wants. He isn't a bankable name & until he is, he needs to keep his trap shut & fight whoever they offer him. Fighting Stephen Thompson would be a start, then the winner fights Maia.
