Big win for Ferguson. You have to think that the title shot comes down to Ferguson or Khabib. I don't think Johnson getting a win over Khabib or having a win over Ferguson from four years ago is going to put him to the front of the line, but you never know. I just think that the performance Ferguson put on against Dos Anjos plus it being his ninth win in a row should mean something. Surprised the judges had it so close they all scored it 48-47. Ferguson will almost certainly face Alvarez next, even if the latter loses to McGregor. I suspect McGregor will take time off after this to do things outside of MMA, at which point the normal order within both divisions will be restored.

Also I'm glad Oliveira lost. I'm with the announcers in that it didn't even look like he attempted a weight cut.

1 year suspension for the piece of crap cheater Jon Jones. He can return in July to continue to cheat.

Ultimately, Jon Jones is lucky he ended up receiving only a one year suspension. I'm already suspicious about the tainted supplement or tainted sexual enhancement pill excuse. But if there is any validity to them at all, fighters no longer have an excuse IMHO. If supplements are not FDA regulated and can potentially cause you to fail a drug test, then all fighters should know better at this point. They should know that if they use them they are rolling the dice on their careers, and they are 100 percent at fault. They can't continually hide behind a wall of ignorance saying they didn't know when these cases are repeatedly popping up.

But my belief is this. It's way too convenient whenever these tests pop up, it's always, "I took a contaminated substance." I just find it hard to believe. Yes, I know supplements aren't FDA regulated and that could cause problems. However, the contaminated substance excuse goes back YEARS. Shouldn't fighters be more mindful about the supplements they take? And maybe just not take them.

Jon Jones is a professional fighter. OK, he wants to take some sexual enhancement pills. Does he really think that's a good idea to take something like that, he doesn't know what's in it when he has a fight coming up? I mean, that's even if you believe his excuse about it being due to sexual enhancement pills.

I do not believe USADA can suspend him more then a year. NSAC can however, and that meeting is on the 10th I beleive.

Both agree & disgree with what you've said, on one hand I think the excuse of 'tainted supplements' is very convenient excuse of someone who is potentially trying to wriggle out of any wrongdoing on a technicality.

But on the flip side I think what if well every case has been genuine & completely accidental. Like I do agree that yes athletes should know what's in any sort of pills or medicine they take &/or if it could cause them to be flagged. I can't help but think though a couple of years ago there was a scandal in the UK a few years ago in which beef products sold were found to contain horse meat which obviously wasn't listed on whichever particular product(s) they were in causing this massive uproar. Basically what I'm saying is bar actually sending the product they wished to take to be tested by USADA the likes of Jones or Romero could very well have been checking all these products contents before taking them with whatever they got popped for not being listed.

The whole excuse though does reek of the TRT situation in which it seems like this excuse is going to be abused just like TRT was.

So Thiago Alves missed weight by a good 7 pounds. The fight is still on, at this point.

In bigger news, Kelvin Gastelum didn't even weigh in and tweeted that he couldn't make the weight, and his fight with Cerrone is off. Three times in less than three years, this is the biggest card in UFC history, and he doesn't even make an attempt. Dude was a fight or two away from a title shot. Total lack in discipline and professionalism what a waste of potential.

Fire the guy. He's done this repeatedly. He didn't tell anyone about what was going on. He announced it on Twitter. He screwed Cerrone out of fighting at UFC 205 in New York City. At Madison Square Garden. Third time. Three strikes and you're out. Cut him loose.

"It will not happen again."

He's done it three times! This is worse than just making weight. Now Cerrone is off the card too. Cerrone doesn't fight at UFC's historic event because of you.

I am missing out on Cowboy because this ******* still can't make weight.

Absolutely gutted about Cowboy missing out on taking part in such a historic event because some piece of **** couldn't make the weight. Newsflash dumb ****, if you can't make the weight consistently, then you shouldn't offer to fight at the weight class until you've made some changes to your diet & preparation.

Gastelum is a waste of space, if he was having such a hard time with losing the weight he should have spoke up sooner. The fact that he didn't even have the decency to weigh in would suggest he was embarrassingly not close to 170lbs.

Also gutted that Evans/Kennedy is off the card as well which I just read, although admittedly that wasn't a weight issue apparently Rashad had some sort of problem with his medical, at least the NYC one I believe, I believe he got retested immediately & passed by another commission so it's unclear what the issue was. To be honest though I'm glad they're so strict & stick to their guns, better safe than sorry.

Jeezus.. I thought Romero had just killed Weidman there. That looked so violent a knee combined with the blood just leaking from his head.

Very nasty.

Good night of fights so far. Meisha retiring was sad, but also felt appropriate.

It wasn't a supplement. It was a apparently an off brand erectile dysfunction pill. For a healthy 20 something year old athlete. So either he was off setting his coke habit or he was off setting his PED use. Or most likely, they found something to cover his illegal use of PEDs, imo.

I wonder what Tate does now? My guess is that she becomes an MMA coach.

It's always interesting to see what happens to UFC Fighters when they retire. The day Brock Lesnar retired the first time, I thought "maybe he comes back to the WWE" and he did. The day that Ronda and/or Conor step away from MMA, the rumors of both heading to WWE would heat up.

I think she has the skills to work the television side if she so wishes. Or maybe she takes some time out, family perhaps.

Excellent first title fight, Karolina is one tough, gutsy woman.

I had Woodley 1st & 4th. Thompson 2nd, 3rd & 5th.

All 10-9 I thought even 4th despite Thompson getting hurt.

2 draws and 1 win is a majority draw not a split decision..

EDIT - Ah there they go they corrected it.

Wow... what a performance from McGregor. Total domination.
