I don't get this. He flat out says this is the day everyone will finally overcome their differences and that from then on July 4th would be recognized as the day the entire world united together in common interest. It's as plain as day. There's nothing pro-American about that speech.

It's just one example of many. Michael Bay's films, Air Force One, etc. It's not the patriotism or content of those kinds of speeches, it's the execution, with the cheesy music and the overly dramatic, hammy, delivery that does it.

Ah, so more generally manipulative, in a way? I can see that, I guess. Although personally I thought Pullman rocked it.

It's been done way worse, though. Like "Every Russian in Moscow suddenly cheering for Rocky" in Rocky 4 fr'ex :p

Huntsman and Mirror Mirror were nothing alike.

None of these films are going to be as good as those few episodes midway through 24 season seven. :oldrazz:

It wasn't bad at all. Not enough that it takes you out of the story, anyway. Some of the cuts are so quick that you don't get much opportunity to inspect, like with mini guns blowing holes through people. The explosions looked fine. There was enough practical effects that it felt fairly balanced.

Thanks, how about the choppers and the big plane sequence? that looked ropey in the trailers.

They were some of the best episodes in the shows entire run.

this is like air force one but no plane, and north korea is never going to attack us.

What a great action film! Butler is completely badass. The action scenes are amazing. 9/10

This is an American action movie and it's ****ing awesome. I'm gonna see it again and I'm gonna buy it and I'm gonna eat steak and drink beer while I watch it. ****ing awesome.

Good Hard-R action movie. More enjoyable than most Michael Bay films.

A little cheesy and contrived at times, but still a solid fun entertaining action flicks. This is the movie we wanted Die Hard 5 to be. Is it derivative of 24 season 7 and Vince Flynn books? Yes. Is it still entertaining? Yes.

Movie works pretty well for the most part.

I hope this does well.

"Hey Roland Emmerich, do you play roulette?"

"On occasion"

"Well let me give you a word of advice... always bet on black"

I think IGN said it best, this is the best Die Hard movie of the year.

Right but this was more Die Hardy than an actual Die Hard movie and while that's sad it also makes this movie awesome.

For an all-American action film, a lot of the CGI work was contracted to overseas venues... like Bulgaria and China. The rushed and cheap nature of the CGI does bring the movie down a bit.

Also, the film is on track to be FilmDistrict's highest-opening movie with an estimated $28M opening. Nice to see a hard-R action movie breaking the slump of box office R-actioner duds like Bullet to the Head, Parker, and The Last Stand.

Glad to hear this is turning out decent. Sucks about the cgi, it's not always critical but I hate when they cheap out on it. Especially for mechanical stuff like helicopters, there just isn't an excuse. I get that living creatures are near impossible to do photo-realistically even for the big boys but for **** like choppers and explosions it's nigh unforgivable.

I'll watch this movie for Morgan Freeman alone, bu the fact that I hear it's a better Die Hard sequel than pretty much all of the Die Hard sequels (though I still have a soft spot in my heart for Die Hard 2. It's my Xmas go-to movie) is just icing as far as I'm concerned.

It depends on the movie. With something like this or Lockout it doesn't bother me. If we're talking a $200 million summer tent-pole, yeah, because at that point *****ty CGI is just insulting. But, for a B-movie like this, it almost adds to the fun. Hell, I grew up in the 80's when you pretty much had to settle for obvious stop-motion creature effects and horrible compositing where the outline of the person made them look like they had "The Glow" (quick Last Dragon reference for all the old-skool folks) when compared to the background so I can suspend my disbelief a little.

Yeah I remember the 80's stuff. And a lot todays lower budget stuff is way better than what we got back then, but it still rankles a little. I guess I'm more tolerant of bad practical effects than lazy CGI ones, I dunno.

Stuff the fake CG blood in Conan, or the dogs (wolves?) in The Day After Tomorrow. I just wish more films would go ahead and pay for squibs and real animals and cut costs somewhere else.

I've never had to budget a movie and I'm sure it's not easy, but it bugs me when the FX suffer.

Oh, make no mistake, the 7th level of Hell is reserved for a**holes who use CG blood over squibs.

But for the most part, I'm tolerant of B-movies and their limitations.

(Actually, add CG explosions to the list of unforgivable sins. Just build a friggin model, dude. I'm sure money-wise it's a wash vs. CG and it just looks crappy. Real fire. Real debris. Just on a teeny, tiny little model. Otherwise, bring on the cheese.)
