Nope, we have been in an the ruins of an underwater city the whole time.

Now if Thor was to break the kid out of confinement and quickly race to the surface of the water and land at a nearby set of rocks or something, then that would work and you could have your struggle with him then.

Or, if Thor waited until he actually surfaced before breaking the containment, he could avoid the kid being crushed by the the weight of the water, or suffer from explosive nitrogen narcossis.
