Here's another version of that image from the Variety cover.

The VFX were rendered in 3d rather than post converted according to Variety.

I made a wallpaper of the Variety cover.

For those of you who use Facebook, here is a cover sized version.

One of the articles from Variety describes how when filming the shots of the pilots in the pods with all of the stuff strapped to them, the actors were moving but their movements didn't move all of the equipment. All the of the stuff strapped to them was being puppeteered off camera. That sounds pretty nuts.

God, I couldn't imagine being strapped into that thing.

At 2:05 in the featurette, I think you can see a new pair of Jaeger pilots not seen yet. At first I thought it might have been the Russian pilots, but it doesn't look like them.

I hope they play that feature before upcoming films. Could interest people who aren't inclined yet.

I was unsure about this at first, even as beautiful as it looked, but DelToro made this a submersive experience even for the actors!!!
The attention to detail is freaking INSANE. I wanted to see it but with a grain of salt, now I'm in.

this second, and Man Of Steel first in terms of must see movies. :)

i might even... *gasp* actually go see it in 3D

They should definitely play more of that kind of thing in theaters, especially since a lot of theaters are just playing TV commercials and really bad music videos before the trailers go on.

I think they should really be pressing that featurette about "The Drift."

So it's been roughly 10 days since the Drift featurette. You guys think we'll get another video in another 10 days?

That's what you get at your theater? The two I go to are Regal and AMC. The former already does stuff like this, they usually play a featurette for an upcoming movie or new TV show. So I feel like they will play this or something else from Pacific Rim in the coming month.

Seconded.

I really enjoyed the featurette on the rigs they built to simulate being inside the Jaeger for the actors, I love practical stuff like that.

Agreed. Thankfully the past 5-6 years now directors have been moving back to doing a lot more practical work instead of cg

Why is Gipsy Danger's plasma caster being shafted? I don't get it.

maybe to keep it as a surprise for the film itself. Hopefully WB wont show it in any more trailers or tv spots. We know GD has one but how it will look on screen; I want to see that in the theater only. Its built in most likely like all the other Jaeger weapons and that is why it cannot be seen from the outside.

Damn, that Variety cover is amazing.

And that video. :wow:
