Pacific Rim - Part 3

You are not even close to joking. I do love people who did not like the movie using the marketing as a big mark against the movie though. As if it had anything to do with the actual quality of the film.

Personally, think they shouldn't have hid that certain aspect. Think it would of helped with the box office. But that doesn't effect my enjoyment of the film one iota.

Agreed. To me it was just something he had to find so he could tear the film apart further. I'm sure he's going to have a blast trying that with Episode VII.

lol I don't know what he feels about Nolan. His feelings seem more complicated because he did really like TDK and loved Inception. I think he more so hates his fans. I think he likes Nolan as a filmmaker way more than Abrams actually. Even with all his baiting articles and *****ing.

And of course I know you aren't being a hypocrite about this marketing talk. Yes, judging a film based on it's box office is the dumbest thing ever and I dismiss anyone's opinion who does that.
That is rich, considering he himself is a fanboy. Guy really is a hypocrite. :funny:

In terms of marketing, this is what I have seen. The trailers, which too be fair I have seen quite a few times in the theaters, far more so then any Superman trailer. And there has been the nightly tv spots during the Daily Show and Colbert Report. But that is really it. Most importantly, it feels like they have avoided obvious and cash rich members of the audience, like kids. Pacific Rim toys could have set a real fire.

But none of this will effect how I view the film. So excited.

Seriously. It was like "the movie was bad because they didn't market the bad guy!!" Um, what? This is how we watch these things now?

They definitely should have just said who he was and not tried to keep it a secret. Most people guessed it anyway and they could have marketed him as a selling point.

But I loved the movie. Everyone I know outside of internet crazyland thought it was great too. They didn't care either way if they knew who he was beforehand.

I never read Devin's coverage of a JJ. Abrams film. It's too tainted with hatred and bitterness. I'm a fan of most of what Devin has to say about films and we agree more often that not but like everyone he does stuff that pisses me off. I'm a Del Toro fan but Devins slobbering coverage of any Del Toro movie is enough to make me vomit.

Holy hell...if that was the way they were going to be for Star Trek, I'm just going off Twitter completely once Star Wars gets rolling.

I avoid Devin entirely. Makes life much easier.

I have not met one person in the "real world" who didn't think it was awesome. And when I tell them JJ is doing Star Wars, they are like hell yes.

Probably for the best. I probably won't get anywhere near the usual Star Wars fandom places I have for over a decade now. I can't even imagine the craziness that is going to ensue on sites like TF.net. :hehe:

A wonderful way to live. Probably translates to a longer life expectancy. :funny:

Yep, same here. I was so excited about taking my nephew to his first Star Wars movie after seeing Into Darkness. Poor kid has no idea what he's in for... :oldrazz:

Before my sister saw the movie, she just asked, "So is he Khan, or what?" I wouldn't tell her. Regardless, I got a "that was AWESOME!!!!!" text after she saw the movie.

I can't even imagine. I remember what it was like during the prequels. And now there's a whole generation of new Star Wars fans joining that madness too. :wow:

I only know if Devin's started something when people start posting about him here. I think of him like he's our wacky neighbor on an 80s sitcom.

Ya I left TFN almost a decade ago. It really harbors a lot of the real crazy fans in there lol I try to go in there but in like 5 minutes I run out of there. It makes the old Batman boards look really tame. But ya Star Wars fandom is some of the biggest out there, and if he tries to Troll Episode VII because JJ's attached, it will be interesting.

this should be the official poster. why is it so hard to understand for the studios that floating heads in photoshop dont work. but if you paint them they do.

My niece was too young for the prequels, so this will be her first SW in theaters. She will probably have to make sure her uncle doesn't hit the roof, just like with Man of Steel.

JJ doing SW space combat? Yeah, I can't wait.

I just can't imagine what the split is going to be like. We already have the OT vs. PT thing. Now we have sequels, as brought to you by someone other then George Lucas. A someone who has done 2 Star Trek films and has his own little personal internet hater community. Can't imagine the discussion doing much other then souring my mood.

*Shakes head ruefully*

Oh, Devin.

Their profits from 200 movies with floating head posters say otherwise.

What drives me nuts is how many awesome posters from Mondo or Gallery 1988 or some of the others are actually commissioned by the studio but then aren't used or are only released as a limited thing. That does nothing to change the quality of artwork that is actually around in movie theaters.

I can't even remember what my screenname was on TFN anymore...

Probably for the best lol. Even the site is not what it used to be IMO. The podcasts went down hill for the past few years. I really hope some day it goes back to the greatness it was in the late 90's/early 2000's.

BTW Love those Pacific Rim "fan art" posters. Very nice.

Yeah, really haven't been a regular there for almost a decade now. I was on the site for far too many hours leading up to AotC. Made me an angry teenager. Didn't spend much time there for RotS. Still visited from time to time to talk Clone Wars, the comics and books. That is pretty much over now. :hehe:

No accounting for taste I guess.
:gibbs:

Oh my Zod, that reminds me of when I went back around the start of the Clone Wars. I couldn't remember my screenname, and my Email info was out of date. I have to have at least three registered screennames because of it. Wonder if any of the old ones work. :funny:

Ya I was there from 98-2002 non-stop. It was my stomping grounds. I went there a little bit for ROTS, and I did not get into TCW (which I love) until recently (thanks to Hunter). With Episode VII and a whole new wave of Star Wars I was hoping it would kinda be like it used to be, but it's much much worse lol. So I'll stick to the Hype's SW section for now.

Those were the days. There book reviews were instrumental into getting me into the EU, especially The New Jedi Order. Before that my reading of the comics and books was pretty random.

On the Pacific Rim fan art posters. Yeah, pretty much a fans dream. Lots of different kinds of art, meaning a little something for everyone.

Yeah, pretty much the same time frame for me. It was my first real jump into "fandom". It was both awesome and infuriating.

The Hype isn't perfect but after 9 years of posting I must say it's pretty damn great overall.

It came from zie twitters: https://***********/graedrake/status/351756404652118017

Do they have some photos that do side-by-side comparison between all mechs in the movie?

Not that it matters, but I am so, so curious to see how this film is received by critics.

Somebody is gonna call it all spectacle just to be different if it gets glowing reviews.
