Pacific Rim - Part 6

It seems odd to me that people complain about the lack of action when one of the several action scens is 20 minutes long. Just the Hong Kong fight is a pretty damn significant chunk of the running time.
 
Makes me wonder how much of Europe was actually devastated from the Kaiju attacks. Seems to be one of the safer places to live at.

Wait...people actually b****ed about a LACK OF action? :doh: my god people will look for anything to b**** about.
 
It's ironic that other times people will complain the movie has too much action. There will always be people who are never satisfied no matter what you do with a movie.

Too much of one, not enough of another. Too much like this, not enough like that. It's impossible to please everyone.

Man of Steel, for example. Years of fanboy whining they want action in their Superman movies and they want the characters powers to be truly represented on screen. They get just that and what happens? They ***** about it. MOS had roughly the same amount of action as The Avengers. Hell, maybe even less. The action doesn't start in MOS until the last 40 minutes or so.
 
No though, it was the execution of the action...

I personally enjoyed all of the action in MOS but it did get repetitive after a while. It's all in the structure and how it's gone about. The Avengers action set pieces didn't overstay their welcome.

So do i, really one of GDT's project i'm more interested about, the others being Crimson Peak, Mountains of Madness (i know it's not gonna happen for a long while but he says it's not completelly dead) and Frankenstein. Also hope to see a Pacific Rim 2 happen but i'm not holding too many expectations in that regard.

That's something I can agree with. I forget which movie it was but literally it was non-stop action from start to finish with only a short breather every so often where stuff wasn't exploding or guns firing or people fighting or chase scenes. A lot of action is fine but it needs to be in context with a proper execution. This was boring.

At the same time I'm watching Mission Impossible II where there has so far been very little action. It's boring too. Much of it is building up the inevitable action later in the movie I suppose (it's been so long I can't remember) but at the moment the story feels like it's plodding along.

I know, who is crying about the lack of action? That is just stupid and is probably make by people who just want to bash the movie for no reason. And they probably haven't even seen it.

Okay, thats one complaint that cannot be levelled at the movie, lack of action? You gotta be kidding, the movie had tons of it, it also had a lot of character moments as well but there was action throughout, from the very start as well.
 
Listening to Del Toro's commentary track has made me want to check out old Kaiju films. Anyone have any they'd suggest?
 
Most Godzilla films are great. I love the Mothra films as well personally. The Gamera films are also personal favorites of mine.
 
I see they have a Gamera bluray set on amazon. I might check that out. Thanks for the recommendation.
 
Recently received the Art of Pacific Rim book as a gift. That book is so good. A lot of the imagery has found its way on line but there is still a ton that has not. Also it comes with 2 full size anti Kaiju propaganda posters. Highly recommended!
 
I can understand the complaint. There's lots of action but everything in between is so bad and there is so much of it, it feels like forever before the next action scene. And the ending battle is the definition of anticlimatic. I watched this a few times trying to understand how someone could screw up monsters vs robots so badly. The script is embarassing. The dialogue is horrendous and cringe worthy. There's way too much cheese and no its not all intentional. Just when you think what could be worse than this.dialogue you start to see how bad these characters are and just how awful the acting is. Like seriously did Del Toro direct this. The only exception is the Australians those guys were awesome and the only interesting characters in the movie. On top of all that bad the monsters are boring designs. Besides Knifehead, they all look relatively the same and that is a huge disappointment. The Hong Kong is pretty awesome and its sad that is the only good part. This is easily the biggest disappointment of the year until probably the Hobbit pt. 2 comes out. 5/10 at best
 
I might have to see it again, but my only complaint about this movie was that the robots looked nothing special and never become characters in themselves. It's like having a superhero movie where the villains look great but the hero looks generic.
 
People who complain about the action in this movie need to be stepped on by a Kaiju.

The problem I had were most of the actors and dialogue...it was just mediocre.

Slow? In what way? These are giant beasts and machines. What do you want them to do? Move like ninja's and fly like Superman?
 
Transformers were big but not exactly slow. Some people just don't like this tipe of action, deal with it.
