Paramount Dumps Tom Cruise

But what did he do that was so bad? Jump on a couch on national tv?

God forbid he actually did something bad like murder someone or snort a line of cocaine off his his kid's forehead or something....

It. Was. A. Joke.

*sigh*

Why do I even bother.... :(

Paramount is being a little cowardly imo. Using the behavior excuse is so convient for them .He had most of his crazy behavior last year, Tom Cruise has since reconized his problem and made changes to his staff. I can't think of any unusual behavior that he had this year. All through the MI:3 promotion it was classic TC out there promting the movie not his beliefs. He is one of the best in the game if Paramount doesn't want him others will.

Bout time. I lived in fear of going to see Paramount movies because I was afraid Tom Cruise would be in them.

only the idiots of the world would let any public antic of a celebrity get in the way of going to see a movie with them in

GIVE THE GUY A BREAK
Sure, he's a little weird, but he seems like a genuinely good guy, and despite his "antics" he makes good flicks.
And that's all that should matter.

If we didn't live in such a celebrity obsessed society, none of this would matter.

**** you, Paramount

Tom Cruise is alright. Can't say I care for alot of his movies, or his acting.

I tend to gravitate more towards actors/actresses who are more low-key, and don't care about being famous and all that.

I think the reson why Cruise is so popular is because he has an eye for blockbusters. He's very buisnessman like.

I like Cruise as well.

When you consider that antics of media ****es like Spears, Hilton, Lohan, etc. I just don't understand why the backlash against this guy.

His antics are really quite tame by Hollywood standards.

I really have to attribute most of it to jealous as one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood going all the way back to Top Gun.

I really like his screen presence and think he would have shined in a movie like Ocean's Eleven.

Tom, tell Paramount to go F*** THEMSELVES!

Thats a long time to be King of the heap and now they are trying to push him off.

you forget he's got an extremely hot wife, a new baby and a million dollar face, I'm sure he's sleeping pretty darn good

I like Cruise I think he's a goos actor... but he is a little psycho. Preaching to women about how wrong they are to use perscription drugs for PPD or drugs in the delivery room(call me when YOU give birth to a baby a**hole!!). I wonder how Katie feels about that. That man must run her life.

He may be able to deliver the goods onscreen but offscreen he comes off as a control freak. But as someone on here said he'll just go make profit for someone else.

To be honest everyone has his movie career down as dead which is a little premature, I wouldn't be suprised at all if we see "one of the greatest comebacks ever" story.

dude rocked it in 'The Last Samurai' and MI:3.
Jerry Maguire was a good flick too. In Fact, Cruise has done plenty of quality material.
Not like he'll be without a movie house to do something with him. This is food for the sharks.

what? where? is there a cue for that ?

(My apologies if there's already a thread on this; feel free to merge.)
The studio says they cut him loose b/c of his recent behavior. I don't think that's the whole story. I think they've been losing money on him, & THAT can be attributed to his behavior. His tirades & outrageous demands are likely making him as hard to work with as he is to watch.
Thoughts?

I blame Star magazine and Access Hollywood.

There is already a thread on this but I'll bite...
While I like him as an actor... his personality bothers me. He just seems like a control freak. Poor Katie Holmes looks so miserable. But she made he bed so now she sleeps in it.
What really pissed me off was this whole rampage he went on about Perscription drug. Who is he to pass judgement on someone. He complained about Riddlin but it looked to me like he needs some.

Plus I dont doubt there that is more to the story than just his behavior being the cause. Word is that he very controling and such on set. He'll give you 100% percent but then do so really big flipout over something small.

What outrageous demands , aside from his usual 20 million pay day along with a percentage of the profit

And how can anyone complain that cruises recent antics cause WOTW to perform badly ?
Budget 132 million
Domistic Gross : 234 million
Worldwide gross : 591 million.

Never mind the fact that for the past 6 six year , has brought in considerable $$$ for Paramount.
I was reading the IMDB news , and already the other big chiefs at paramount are unhappy with the remarks made by the CEO.. They were renegotiating deals with the Cruise/Wagner production company but when it didn't come to an agreement , they were all ready to end this in a very professional matter
Read for yourself :
http://www.imdb.com/news/sb/2006-08-23/
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone commented, "As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal. ... His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount."

In an interview with today's (Wednesday) Los Angeles Times, Cruise's production partner, Paula Wagner, denounced Redstone's remarks. "It is graceless. It is undignified. It's not businesslike," she said. In a separate interview with Daily Variety, she pointed out that during the last six years, Cruise/Wagner movies have accounted for 32 percent of Paramount's theatrical revenue.

Citing unnamed sources, the newspaper said that Paramount had offered them $2 million a year plus a $500,000 discretionary fund for each of two years. When Cruise/Wagner turned down the deal, Paramount Chairman Brad Grey prepared to announce an amicable end to the relationship, the Times said, citing one source. Grey and Viacom CEO Tom Freston were reportedly upset by Redstone's comments and told the newspaper's sources that he had not discussed his views about Cruise during the negotiations.

I can get the bad performance of MI-3 , but still i think it's the media who messed cause the downfall of Cruise. Not himself. Sure he made some dumbass remarks and his scientology beliefs , but the media messed it up. And they're doing it again with Gibson.

Anyways , i think the big loser here is going to be Paramount. The Cruise/Wagner production will just go to another company and still make $$.

I mean check out the more wellknown flicks of them :
MI- trilogy
Total Budget : 355 million
Total WW BO : 1394 million

The Others :
Budget 17 million
WW BO 209 million

Vanilla Sky
Budget 68 million
WW BO 203 million

Minority Report
Budget 102 million
WW BO 358 million

Last Samurai
Budget 140 million
WW BO 456 million

And for the record , i think Cruise is a really great actor. Despite his "weird" antics on medical drug use , he seems to be a pretty cool guy. At least that's what the people who have worked with him say.
