i have no idea how can a military surplus cold weather mask look similar to a gimp mask but what do i know...

It's a striking aesthetic in its own right, and we already had a pretty faithful looking take on the character in Batman Forever. I'm not pressed about Reeves changing things up. It's scary.

The look is so disturbing. & it’s not like the spirit of the character isn’t there: riddles, clues, theatricality, etc. He’s just not visually vivacious which I don’t have a problem with. The suit is definitely iconic, but after seeing the trailer, I don’t see it working well here. That bright ass suit would be an eyesore. I like the Riddler insignia too; it’s classic, but a little rougher. Plus he’s just terrifying so far. He’s hovering over a dead body to open the trailer, writing in (possibly) blood on the walls, wrapping heads up, etc.

It’s the same with Penguin. He’s not short and stubby, swinging his umbrella gun about, but he’s got the nose, the funny short tie, the realistic wobble, etc. Reeves has reinvented everything very well so far for me.

Not exactly but he could have looked better, and not like some crazed up guy that’s into some kinky bondage action

Riddler is easily best design of the movie to me imo. People remember Hardy's Bane because of the amazing silly voice and the cool redesign, you have to change things up. Staying too faithful to comics is lame imo, film is a different medium and a chance to do way more exciting things. If he was wearing a suit and a bowler hat I would be significantly less enthused. I want to see something that hasn't been done before.

Gotta take those opportunities and place your own stamp on the mythos, and this is a fresh and bizarre take. Fully expecting Riddler to be a pathetic loser who dresses up trying to look cool and intimidating, and this really works for that imo

He is intimidating but there'll 100% be a Scooby-Doo reveal where Batman finds out he's just an annoying nerd playing dress up too. He has to come across commanding enough to garner tons of fans and sympathizers, but you also don't cast Paul Dano if he's not going to be annoying or nerdy under the mask. I think he'll be sympathetic (probably also an orphan) but he will definitely be pathetic in the way that a lot of terrorists actually are.

He's hiding who he is to try to make change, in a similar way to Batman, but through a twisted sense of morality that a lot of really pathetic people have

Yeah, his sheer will and ability to stop at nothing to realize his goals is what's scary to Batman. His outfit and persona will be how he commands the masses. But deep down he'll be a loser imo, it's a good way to differentiate him from Batman even though they have similar goals

He looks the same as he did since the trailer dropped. So why is it that ppl are suddenly coming out of the wood work to express how they don’t like it and how he looks like the gimp? Please explain. Because none of these ppl said a word since last August and now it’s Iike insult city. That’s why I don’t buy it. Sounds like band wagoning to me. I’d understand if someone talked negatively since the trailer but it’s as if they saw one gimp insult online and then jumped on the train.
