The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Paul Giamatti IS Rhino - Part 1

The suit is no doubt an influence from the Ultimate R.H.I.N.O., but I like that they've done something new. This is MASSIVE and just feels really awesome.

Seems like most CBM nerds want the filmmakers to put little to no creative input into these movies. Does anyone really think THIS would work on film?

As a starter costume, it would've been fun to see Paul dressed up like that, and I do believe that's what he was expecting when he pleaded to be Rhino, but the new design just feels more real-world. A big large, muscular man in gray skintight spandex with a horn on the top of the head would just be a laughingstock in today's world. Hell, Spidey would laugh him out of town before even throwing a punch.

The robotic suit, however, poses more of a threat. Especially, with the rumored additions to it.

Oh w/o a doubt based on Ultimate. But like with most movies, and in particular this one, at the same time they wanna it make their own.
Electro, Rhino, and Spidey's new lenses I wanna say are definitely Ultimate influenced.

The Rhino design looks like it's a pretty cool new twist on the character. My main reservation is that if Paul Giamatti is just piloting the thing, it's almost like it's the suit that's the villain and the guy inside is utterly interchangable. Which would be a shame, as Rhino - the CHARACTER - is one of my favourite villains in the Marvel Universe.

But that's a nitpicky concern, really. I'm a huge fan of Paul Giamatti, have been for like a decade, and I'm super-excited to see him playing a comic book character, particularly one I already love so much and never expected to see on the big screen. Rhino is arguably my most anticipated aspect of this film.

It's Aleskei's particular hatred of Spidey that will make him the ideal pilot for the suit. He completes the suit and adds that character to it.

So the Rhino has no head, just a giant horn where his head should be.What the he**,who comes up with this crap.Is it a glass horn that we see the guy inside controlling it.

I think people are just expected to see a more RHINO lie mecha suit like the comics

^ Hardcore fans are expected to see a more "Rhino like mecha-suit" yes. But every other standard movie goer won't care. Honestly, I won't either. I think he's pretty uninteresting. And the way they portray him in the new movie looks like the right way imo. And I hope he's a little dumb sideshow, cause if we get another SM3, I'll kill my self. He should just be there and use the suit to break in to bank vaults or something :-)

I agree. Fans like ourselves anticipate a mechanical suit; uninteresting and non-existent movie goers will just say "oh hey, it's that Rhino guy! He was on the tv or something." :oldrazz:

HOPEFULLY, kids today have an idea who the Spiderman villains are. When I was a tyke, I had everybody memorized. :hrt:

I remember in my high school photography class I was playing the amazing spider-man game trailer a few of the guys I hanged with or sit next to knew who Rhino in the game was so that might be some good news at least.

In terms of kids these days there has been several cartoons and games showing rhino in different ways, so for them it isn't a thing of rhino has to look only 1 way

I think Rhino being mechanical is great, for the mere fact of diversity. You've got Electro who's a genetic mutation, Rhino who's basically a Mecha, and then Goblin who's another genetic freak, but also uses Tech.

Absolutely, that could work on screen.

As for creative input, making the Rhino a guy driving a tank that runs on four legs isn't something new- check every Japanese kiddie show from Voltron onward.

It's really about what works for the directors vision, he will have created this universe with his own rules, its nothing new really

I just feel like people are bashing it just because it's not exactly like in the comics

I'm just happy that we won't get another "experiment went wrong" type of villain with Rhino/Aleksei. He's a bad motherf***** from the get go and somehow gets his hands on this awesome robotic Rhino suit!

The massiveness of the Rhino is simply amazing. If you'd go with the super powered direction, you'd have to turn him at least Hulk sized. And then have some crazy guy put him into a suit, with a horn on his head. Or make him a cross species, but then you'd have another group of people complain that it's different from the comics. This Rhino might be a complete departure from the comics, but it's one of the few changes I'm absolutely fine with.

I'm wondering if this rhino mech suit have hands because looking at it has very very tiny hoofs like 2 digits hand. Whats the use of standing up right if it couldn't grab hold to anything.

Wow, funny nobody gave a damn about Rhino (and even ridiculed his inclusion in the movie) until this design was revealed!

Rhino's actually always been one of my favourite villains and I love what I see so far.

now you mention it yeah when we heard the rhino might be in it people were like really? out of all the villains they chose the rhino

Actually, I've always thought Rhino would've been a great villain for the Spider-man reboot films. He is different and I think with some talented writers they could've made his character pretty cool and fun. Of course he is dumb as rocks but that is what makes him stand out. He is just a mindless force of destruction. With a real mastermind as the main villain (like Norman Osborne) it could have been pretty interesting.

The mech suit looks RIDICULOUS. It takes everything that could've been interesting about that character and turns it into a joke. Cross-species angle would've been best. Nobody laughed at The Hulk in the Avengers. They could've had a monstrous villain with brute strength. That is something that has never been seen in the Spider-man films, sure, pretty much all the villains have super strength but none on the level of Rhino. Instead they decide to put a wimp in a suit. How is that not a disappointment?

When I was thinking about Rhino being on screen I was thinking something more like this:

People say they would laugh at this if they saw that on screen?....yeah right

He's still monstrous with brute strength, only mechanical, and I wouldn't exactly call this Aleksei a wimp. It's not like he's Ultimate Rhino, with a weak and harmless shrimp stuff into the suit. Aleksei may only be human, but he's a Russian gangster with a violent history and terrible temper.
