PlayStation Firmware Updates

I hate the fact that theres a PSN store in the Game section. Why is it even there? It trips me up especially when Im playing a game and want to look at my trophies, bc its now its position.

Another nice feature that was added with 3.0 is the fact that it supports dual audio outputs. For example, in my scenario, I can't watch movies or play games all the time in surround sound, and if I do want to watch with surround on, then I would have to go to the sound options and select the digital out. I have it connected to my TV with an HDMI cable, and an optical cable for surround. Now I don't have to go to the sound options, just to select the digital out selection, they have added Dual Audio Out. I believe that's what it is called, as I am at work and can't remember right off the top of my head. It was so annoying when I would forget to switch the audio options when I wanted to play a game and I had just got done watching a movie in surround, and so I would have to wait for the game to boot up, and then exit. :cmad::cmad::cmad:

I love the bigger text. I haven't really noticed any of the other features.

The Uk addition of the BBC iplayer into the menu screen is GENIUS! now i dont have to sit upstairs to watch the shows i missed on my pc, i can do it on my tv downstairs now!

The bigger text is way better. My only problem, and this is a nitpick, is that they have two PlayStation Store icons in the Games and PlayStation Network sections. That's really stupid.

This is the only thing that pisses me off about the update and yet its still in the other section where it was before (Networks is it?)

Its just "strategic" placement so you goto the store more often

:cmad: Grrr I ran into that Uncharted 3.0 freezing problem. I was just getting into the game (freaking amazing) and everything but now I basically can't even play it right now. Hopefully they fix it sooner than later.
Sony Looking Into Firmware 3.0 Issues
Company hopes to have a solution as soon as possible.

September 4, 2009 - PlayStation 3 owners who recently downloaded the newest 3.0 firmware update may have run into a few software issues, particularly with Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Plenty of users are reporting the game is now freezing periodically and reached an unplayable state.

But don't worry, fans. Sony recognizes there is an issue and hopes to have a solution for you soon.

"SCEA is aware of reports that PS3 owners are experiencing isolated issues with their PS3 system since installing the most recent system software update (v3.00)," said Patrick Seybold, Sr. Communications Director at SCEA, on the official blog.

"Rest assured that we are looking into the matter and will provide an update here as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience, as it's our mission to deliver the best consumer experience on all PlayStation platforms."

They have 3 icons. I just noticed another one in the Video section when I was trying to look at some clips

that is one of my FAVORITE features of the 3.00 firmware. I always hated having to go into the audio settings and change the sound output to HDMI if i wanted to use the tv speakers over the 770 watt home theater the optical cord was plugged into. I used it last night and it works VERY good, i like that i can just turn off the home theater and turn up the tv volume :woot:, way to go SONY!

I noticed they added an Echo Canceler in the headset settings. That was a nice touch.

As promised, Sony has released a new firmware to fix the problems that the 3.0 firmware update caused for many PS3 owners. The update is not a mandatory update and will not kick you off an online session or require you to update your system. This is purely your choice.
Whether this new patch fixes any other problems or adds in new content hasn't been discovered, yet. It's safe to assume it'll only fix the previous freeze problems and glitches that the 3.0 firmware caused three weeks ago. You may want to update just to be on the safe side, but it's up to you.

Due to the hatred of the grey boxes I was messing around and came up with this rough idea ;)

A document has been leaked saying that Sony intends to emulate PS2 games and sell them on PSN along with Dreamcast games

http://www.edge-online.com/news/leaked-sonys-motion-control-plans-ps2-emulator-for-ps3

I hope this is true. IMO it's just a logically sound move all the way around. Since it'll be DL'd off the PSN, it won't hurt hardcopy PS2 sales, but will increase PSN revenue on the PS3 at the same time as it won't be a direct competition necessarily. Some hard to come by games will also probably be rereleased, and top that off with it not being at the more outrageous prices you see on Ebay or other sites. Plus with BC having been cut out to lower PS3 prices, emulating is a much cheaper approach.

I'm glad I bought a BC PS3 since I can just visit Gamestop and pick up cheap PS2 games. However they don't have everything, and you also don't run the risk of getting a scratched up game.

As for the Dreamcast part, also think it's a good move. It'll possibly give Sony and Sega a better partnership bond, and give a little extra revenue to both. Only problem tho is I can't even name 10 Dreamcast games I want to see on PSN no matter what. That's not to say there won't be a few I won't purchase, but not too many MUST haves.

Cross game chat is coming for next FW update. According ND Dev. I hope he doesn't get in to trouble. :(

I think they wanted people to have fun and ejoy the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies positions.

I never really cared much for that but cool for those who have been waiting

Yeah same here. Some people really like it, but I am not jumping up and down over it.

that'd be cool but it would be nice if we could get a youtube app so when you play a online match you could upload that match onto youtube that would be really cool
