Action-Adventure Power Rangers 4.0 - Part 2

Super Sentai is going to have their 50th next year. I am damn curious what that is going to be like.

It's doing better than Buffy so there's that. Esp in the boom comic department.

But shame Hasbro willingly drove this into the ground just when it could've had a resurgence

Yeah but Buffy had a nice run, especially considering it was a TV series adaptation of a box office bomb and it became a very acclaimed groundbreaking show, plus the Angel spinoff. But what should be done with Buffy at this point? Do we want a reboot with new actors? I think they tried that at one point but it didn't get off the ground. Should they make movies with the original actors? What's the ideal way to exploit the Buffy IP right now? I feel like Buffy was never meant to be a franchise that could last 30 years.

Like all we're getting now is the Boom! comics and some game tie-ins here and there. And I guess the Playmates toys at some point, but the Playmates toys aren't so hot considering Hasbro left so many teams unfinished for Lightning Collection, which I was a big fan and early adopter of. I feel like I got cheated.

Hasbro literally spent $522 million to buy the IP, and it sounded like they had big plans, and it all pretty much amounted to nothing. Now, Hasbro is trying to get out of the media content and IP business. Frankly, they want out of the Power Rangers business as well as they're just licensing it out to Playmates and other collectible companies.

It lasted 30 years, that’s a heck of an accomplishment.

It's a fair point. I don't think even Haim Saban envisioned it would last this long, and it still has a pretty passionate fanbase today, plus conventions and all that. I think there will always be a passionate fanbase for Power Rangers between the convention scenes, the internet, streaming, new collectibles, etc. Plus Super Sentai is still going strong in Japan. So there's always going to be some bit of this somewhere. But it still feels like it's in a doldrum period right now.

Buffy still has a vast universe to explore. You have Slayers anthology series. Fray. Etc...

And the Buffy comics at Boom have been a hot mess while Power Rangers truly shined at Boom.

They're 2 franchises that still have a lot of life in them

Fair enough. It's still pretty disappointing because I had such high hopes five years ago. And now five years later, it feels like we are worse off than where we were five years ago.

I'm pretty sure this was evident considering the trailer show the rangers fighting on a corresponding colored roller coaster car and there was a sixth green coaster car.

Power Rangers as a concept lends itself to animation so well. I saw these clips recently and you can see how everything would look so good in animation especially the monsters.

One of the MMPR actors, Johnny Yong Bosch would actually be a great casting decision for a Power Rangers animated show. Not only would he get to voice his character of Adam (if he's in it), he could also voice other characters too.

How dare you! He's Vash and Ichigo. :o

Being able to give different performances for different characters one thing, but it isn't the literal transformation of voice required if you are to voice more than on character on a show.

Hasbro is trash for
A. selling off ALL OF POWER RANGERs costume catalog
B. Making actors bid alongside fans for this stuff.

They are selling of physical suits and props that they own, not the IP. Which, frankly makes sense, since Hasbro is generally getting out of the show and movie making industry. Which frankly was always a mistake. Its a cost cutting measure, sure. But I'm not entirely sure what they got out of keeping that stuff either.

Coming December 10, 2024!

Working together, Robo-Rita and Rita Repulsa rewind, rewrite, and remix the past in an attempt to stop the very formation of the Power Rangers, altering the course of history. Will the two Ritas and their army of monstrous enemies from across the MMPR timeline finally succeed in destroying the Power Rangers? Or will these teenagers with attitude learn to work together and counter this catastrophic chronological collaboration?
