Prometheus - Part 2

Even if it takes place in the same universe or whatever and even if it takes place before Alien, that doesn't mean that it really has anything to do with Alien storywise or thematically and is not necessarily a prequel to that story.

Think of this way: DC comics currently has several Batman series and then All star Western all taking place in the same universe. Allstar Western features Jonah Hex in 19th century Gotham. Is Jonah Hex a prequel to Batman?

They really need to stop this game. With Fox spending 100 Million on Prometheus they really need fans of ALien to be Intrested. And this game won't help them.

If It IS connected to ALien then It's a prequel. If not prequel It's not connected to Alien. If not connected to Alien they better start releasing more on this film If they want to
survive the summer.

If not connected to Alien they missed a golden opportunity here.I would like to know how this went from prequel to Alien to something else.

Lindhoff has said to expect a trailer around January-February. This movie is still months away.

Fassbender mentions "I'm a robot" in that interview, which seems to lend a lot more credence to that (supposedly) "fake" script leak posted earlier. That leak had already confirmed that Fassbender was an android...

....so....

yeah.
I'm still waiting on someone to prove that it got "debunked."

It's been known for a while that Fassbender plays an android...

'Prometheus' Trailer Leak 'Heartbreakingly Unfair'

'When that material is ready and it comes out, you should go see it in 3-D,' Fox Filmed Entertainment CEO Tom Rothman tells MTV News.

Tom Rothman, CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment, does not like leaks. He especially doesn't like leaks when they come from one of Fox's most anticipated and fiercely guarded films, Ridley Scott's "Prometheus."

A bootlegged, shaky and watermarked version of the first trailer for "Prometheus" showed up online Sunday, and even though the unauthorized debut didn't last long before 20th Century Fox had the video pulled, an untold number of eager fans caught it and spilled on the details.

On the red carpet of the Gotham Independent Film Awards, Rothman spoke with MTV News' Josh Horowitz about his disappointment with the leaked trailer. "I heard some of it leaked, which wasn't so good," he said.
For such a drawn-out buildup, the release of the bootleg trailer marked a point of anticlimax. To Rothman, the leak was nothing short of a severe injustice. "That's not fair. It's heartbreakingly unfair, because ... the quality of the visuals is as spectacularly beautiful, shot in 3-D compositionally the way only a master could do it," Rothman said. "For some early, early, early, early half-baked, half-assed test to leak, it's so unfair."
The Fox exec did, however, guarantee that the film will make a splash once it sees a proper release. "I will promise you this: When that material is ready and it comes out, you should go see it in 3-D on a screen. It will deliver."
Even though the secrets of the trailer are out, that still leaves many questions to be answered, namely where "Prometheus" fits in the "Alien" universe. While certainly connected, claims that "Prometheus" acts as a prequel have been shot down by almost everyone involved with the project.
Rothman made the same denial, even going so far as to place his hand over his heart. When pressed to explain how "Prometheus" could share continuity with "Alien" and take place before the events of that film but still not qualify as a prequel, Rothman offered up his explanation.
"I suppose if you want to definitionally be that literal, but it does it a great disservice. I will tell you, here's the way to think about it. If you looked at the whole movie, 95 percent of it is entirely unto itself," Rothman said. "Ridley said it right: If you're a fan and you look closely, you'll spot strands of DNA."
For him, "Prometheus" ends up being about so much more than continuity. "I'll tell you the great thing: It's way bigger than that. The ideas are way bigger, way more original and — it's a scary word — way more profound."

It IS an Alien Prequel. The ONLY reason they aren't letting that on is, the Alien franchise has been ruined. When people today think Alien, they think AvP. That's a fact. A very sad, sad fact.

A very unfortunate truth, let's hope this movie turns things around though.

That's what they're trying to do. I mean, anyone who bought the Blu Ray Anthology knows they didn't throw out that letter to the fans from Ridley Scott....it still exists, and it would be a real cluster **** if they kept that out in the open.

Again, I seriously doubt this is Ridley Scott's way of "reclaiming the mantle" for the franchise. If Scott was pissed at the way Cameron (or more to the point, the crapmeisters who churned out the garbage that was A3, Resurrection, and the AVPs) "ruined" the story, he's had 25 years to "correct" it.

It's *not* an alien prequel. There will undoubtedly be xenomorphs in small doses, but the movie is not about them. They've made that abundantly clear.

Shiet I missed the leaked trailer....looking for it now.

remember the rumor that Scott and Cameron were hoping to do an alien movie but Fox didnt give them money? i think this was 10 years ago.

Agreed. This whole notion of reclaiming the mantle is utter nonsense. Scott has always been a big fan of what Cameron did with the franchise and they've been close friends for a long time. It was even Cameron that convinced Scott to do another Sci-Fi film (in 3D! :hehe:), when Scott visited him on the set of Avatar.

If that Is true then I would like to know why It went from Alien prequel to something not.And If not Alien prequel they need to quit these strands of DNA from Alien or
connection to Alien talk.If not prequel to Alien then It has no connection to the Alien films.

Why on earth would they be disappointed the trailer leaked? As far as I can tell, it really generated a lot of hype and sold the movie to a bunch of people.

Even at 18/19 you'd have to admit some of the responses on here for that age are cringe inducing in their tantrum nature.

Jog on mate! :woot:

Well there wasn't actually any real war scenes in Salvation bar at the very start, however I'd not consider the scenes at the start of T2 R rated, I think they'd easily get passed for a PG-13.

Maybe, maybe not. We'll never know. But those scenes where very bleak.

I personally felt LFODH was the best McClane has been since the first, Bruce himself even 4 years on refers to it as his favourite since the first. Vengeance always felt more forced to me with the hungover and racial stuff.

Agree to disagree here.

The first Alien had the rape overtones that in truth I never thought about until I got online to be honest. I think the atmosphere can be terrifying and still be PG-13, that is down to the skill of the director.

True, we'll find out by June next year!

I think it being Rated R would be better. Not to do with gore or language. But the tone. I want this to be a mind **** of a movie. A real psychologically horrifying experience.

I trust Scott though.

As for the title of the movie? Yea it's the name of the ship. But I think it also alludes to Fassbender's character. An advanced being (David is an android) steals something from the Space Jockeys/Engineers.

Maybe sacrificing himself at the end to to be tortured by the Jockeys for eternity until the USCM Hercules saves his ass?

If it where anyone else, I'd agree, but coming from Rothman's mouth, it just makes me want to burn the bootleg trailer on DVD and hand it out in the streets, given he has proven himself, time and time again, to be of equal value with animal excrement.

It IS a prequel, and Scott never thought Cameron "ruined" the franchise. The hell did you get that from? They were WORKING on a new Alien movie right before Fox greenlighted AvP. They cancelled it because they knew the AvP movie would suck, and ruin the franchise.

It IS an Alien Prequel because it has Space Jockies in it. That makes it a prequel no matter how they spin it.

They don't want people to think of this movie as a prequel because the name Alien is not known as a quailty franchise any more. Scott wants to go back, and he finally found a way to.

Is it really that aggravating to you?
