Would a PG-13 rating make anyone angry or worried?
Some on here will throw fits the likes of which are more commonly associated with 3 year olds who get their blanky taken away.

its a gamble if the general public will pay money to see it. online hype means nothing in the real world. It's a film based on a calssic franchise that is being buzzed up online for nearly a year before release, there's no way this film will be a gamble.

there are not enough fingers on my left and right hand to count how many times a sequel or prequel to a classic franchise bombed.

It's a part of it. But there's no way that's the only song. This is the music used for the Prometheus trailer:

You are aware that the rating has more to it then blood and gore, and naughty languge, right?
You act like it's never a big deal. See, if a movie was about two lesbian best friends, and it's a light, fluffy fun movie, it'll be rated R only because it's about two lesbians.
You can even get an R rating for the tone, and look of the movie. Like Max Payne did...but yet, they wanted the PG-13.
So, the problem now lies with, will Ridley Scott be able to make the film incredibly disturbing, with an incredible feeling of dred, with a PG-13 film. It's possible by our standards....what we would define as PG-13- VS R-Rated...but the MPAA is crazy. They could force the film to become horrible, because they'll demand cuts and re-shoots.
So yes. Their "tantrums" are warrented if it affects the film as a whole.
You do realise Captain America was far bloodier than Don't Be Afraid of the Dark but had the lighter rating based strictly on tone right? Honestly I'm not concerned about the particular rating for this one as it seems it will me more of an 'explore a new world' Avatar type movie with a constant Lovecraftian dread rather than people being killed left and right. I'm sure this film will be fine with whatever rating it gets.
But alcoholic New York cops tend to use the f-word and Terminators tend to you know, actually terminate people, so the concept always runs the risk of being neutered.
The film can be creepy and violent without needing to be R rated. I've seen a few questionable PG rated films that could easily be R rated under a stricter classification board. Making this film R won't make it any better or more "cool", the movie is either well made or not, regardless of rating. This is a film that will be built around atmosphere, not how many naked **** covered in blood we see.
When I made the post I knew EXACTLY who the two would be that replied, now I like you dude but like I say, I know this sites R rated lovers who kick up a fuss, your last point being one in particular I was vehmently a defendant of.
You both miss my point, I've watched enough movies to understand how it works. Doesn't alter that how some react is completely embarrassing given their ages.
Also lets call a spade a spade, most that are upset over no R ratings ARE upset becuase they want more graphic violence and f bombs.
We were talking about the God Prometheus in philosophy yesterday.
Kind of sad I know more about this movie than the legend it's named after.
Well, I am not upset the movie is PG-13. It may have bothered me if the director was not Scott...but I have full faith in him.
I was just pointing out that films tend to be rated rather strangely, and can sometimes actually ruin the film.
Why IS this movie called Prometheus? Is it the name of their ship?
Oh yeah, no doubt. Max Payne was awful. But it's just silly that TONE not CONTENT can make a film R or PG. Which makes me hope that even if Fox wants a PG-13 cut, the film can still be just as effective if it was R. Minus some gore and nudity. The other thing is that if you are a big studio movie with a lot of money invested you can magically get things passed that smaller movies can't. I mean Max Payne was a crap movie because it was badly made IMO, however Moore made a good point when he said they were made to cut things that were in no way tonally darker than things in TDK or ROTK.
Just finished watching Alien (don't know how many times I've watched it). The film really still holds up well today.

It really does. I'm not really much of a horror buff, but I really love Alien. The first time I watched it, I was tense the entire time. And I love how the scares in the film aren't just tacked on. They actually flow very naturally out of the atmosphere and the various situations that occur in the film. Also, sometimes, the camera is framed in such a way that, if you're a first time watcher, you don't know when or where a scare is going to happen.
I would love to watch it again, but I want to be able to sleep tonight.t:
