Well, what do you do when you think this is going to be the greatest movie of all time, and people are saying it sucks (well bad)? Just as lil hurt feelings, is all. I'm still going to see it, no doubt about it.

Dude, look at what movie you're talking about, then who your avatar is. You sure you want to be talking about "feelings" right now? :oldrazz:

Hey man, The Joker has feelings. That's why he died. BONG!

You know it's funny. Some people thought that the religious folk would be the ones most critical of this movie but it turns out that it's the other way around. The fact that the movie implies that there [blackout] is a much higher intelligence (beyond the space jockeys/engineers)[/blackout]and a very direct concept of faith through Shaw seems to have turned off some people.

Funny how things turn out.

I'm actually more excited for this movie now.

Well, there's no shortage of "immaculate conceptions" in these movies, that's for sure.

If folks are really getting upset by that, they're far too sensitive. Even the LOTR movies do as much... hell.. the books flat out SAY that that's the case (The Silimarillion does, anyway). Besides, as Lovecraftian as these creatures are, that prime mover would more likely be something like Azathoth or some similar abomination than any traditional deity.

Here we go again with this. Something we feel is fanboy lore and bulletproof gets some mediocre reviews and people fall apart. Just go watch and enjoy the damn movie.

Words to live by.

I swear, I think people are much too easily influenced by reviews in this day and age.

Kinda disappointed that it seems this film doesn't push the horror and is more of a sci-fi adventure film. That isn't a bad thing at all, but the trailers and marketing (and Scott himself) have built up the movie as a terrifying experience.

Have you not heard the leaked audio?

That's ****ing terrifying.

Early reviews and French critics be damned. <---:o This still looks absolutely stunning. It's my most anticipated film of the year, besides PTA's The Master and that other film that will not be named.

Besides, mixed reactions mean nothing. I hate to sound like an apologist already, but how many films initially had mixed reactions that went on to be well regarded hits?

I can't wait!

That really doesn't apply when the director is an well respected, well known entity.

The main concern is that it doesn't answer every question, correct? That's something I'm not too worried about. If Scott submitted a film that laid everything out, people would still complain.

This is the internet, where films are judged instantly by the first few people to view them; hive mentality and whatnot.

All I'm saying is: Fassbender + Gorgeous visuals + Serious Sci-Fi = my money.

Slap them. Slap ALL the Joffreys!

Why can't you mention Django?

so what will we see in the way of easter eggs for the monsters that eventually develop to bother Ripley and beyond?

I think people are seriously overreacting here. All the reviews are either very positive or on the fence. I have seen like only 1 overwhelmingly negative review. That is all. Not much. You don't know what end of that spectrum you'll end up on until you see it. People seem to be really disappointed with Empire's review more than anything. Well, empire generally does things right (IMO) but lets not forget they gave Attack of the Clones a freaking 5/5 and Terminator Salvation a 4/5. Also, that specific reviewer is known for not liking Nolan films (for all of us waiting heavily for TDKR) so we wont all agree for sure.

Some of the negative reviews seem outright lazy, and seem to have selfish complaints. That being said, of course there are a few things that may be wrong with the plot. How bad is it? You will decide that on your own. I am very surprised, however, that practically NOBODY is considering the possibility that what you see as "not leaving any answers" etc might just mean you need to review it again. So many of Scotts films, especially his Sci Fi films, are filled with all kinds of symbolism and other things that are very important to understanding the movie but that you don't always catch on your first time.

Now is it possible that isn't the case? Certainly, but I would say with Scott it is more likely than not. It's very likely more answers are there than you think. Don't panic. And as for 1 dimensional characters, with the exception of Rutgar Hauers character in Blade Runner I really haven't seen all that much dimension and depth to the characters of Alien or Blade Runner. Roy was a big exception IMO. With Scotts films it's always whats going on in the background that matters. The depth is in the themes and visuals. Not everybody catches it the first time. Nobody catches everything the first time.

All I can say now, is if you feel the need to lower your expectations that can't hurt at all. It can only surprise you. Stop worrying so much about reviews, just go the the movies!!! The worst Prometheus could be is Ridley's equivalent to Avatar, which means your in for some great visuals. (And it has to have more depth than Avatar...)
