Your spoiler is another big "eh" I have with the script.
[BLACKOUT]Janek just suddenly knows the Engineers' grand purpose on the moon, out of nowhere. And we're suppose to take this nugget of information like that? Really? The location being a military base makes sense, but the way they go about it feels like it's missing a scene. Why would the invitation lead to a military base? Why not just kill us?[/BLACKOUT]

[BLACKOUT]I do like your theory about the exoskeletons. They are visually arresting, and their appearance has to come into play eventually if the sequel happens. [/BLACKOUT]

Probably because those ancient drawings on the walls from all those cultures were done ages ago. I think the engineers wanted to kill us because we became a possible threat with our advances in technology and being able to create life(even if it's artificial androids). That or we became too hostile of a race with all the wars and killing that has gone on for years. Maybe they see it as a failed project. Centuries ago they didn't bother with us because of how unadvanced we were. That's my guess at least.

Well considering Blade Runner is Nolan's favorite film, I made the association. Maybe I'm wrong about that. Maybe not.
If anything, Inception draws more heavily on movies like On Her Majesty's Secret Service or Topkapi. Also two of Nolan's favorites.

Ya

Agreed. The dead engineers from dating were there 2000 years ago, so around the time of ancient Rome they realized we were advancing way too quickly and they saw us as failed, as Weyland saw Vickers. Now we are the gods (creating David and a perfect race) they don't like it, just like the Greek gods did not like that we had the possibility of overthrowing them with technology. They were coming to eradicate us but something went wrong with their bio weapons and a containment leak screwed it all up.

The Engineers wanting to eradicate us all those years ago could simply be they just had enough of our s**t. Not necessarily scared at least not 2000 years ago. They gave us life and wanted to see what we would do with, how we would prosper etc. But what they saw they might not have liked so they decided to just wipe it clean and maybe start over.

[blackout]It definitely feels that. I'm hoping there's a Director's Cut because there a few scenes that didn't flow naturally in transition.

I will say this though, was it an invitation, or a warning? Shaw thought it was an invitation, but that was merely a thesis and/or speculation as to what the mural truly meant.

Keep in mind, the origin of man is still shrouded in mystery. No motivations or reasons were declared as to why The Engineer sacrificed himself at the commencement of the film. In addition, the ancient societies that depicted The Engineers in their murals had the identical constellation featured prominently -- a system not visible to the human eye. Which means that The Engineers returned at some point in history, and interacted with these societies. OR maybe it wasn't The Engineers who made Earthlings aware of this planetary system.

At this endeavor, all we have are theories.[/blackout]

[blackout]I believe there must be a reason as to why the Space Jockeys chose this specific exoskeleton design. It appears so 'alien'. It's something I hope Ridley adds to the mystery in the sequel.[/blackout]

Um, maybe you need to watch the movie a few more times.

Those "penis aliens" were nothing more than the worms that were shown when the crew entered the room for the first time.

Nah, I'm not watching this movie again, least not until it comes out on blu-ray. I came to that conclusion just for the fact they went for the throat, and seemed to have acid for blood. Just my observation right or wrong that's what I got out of it..

Something that a lot of people aren't talking about is Michael Fassbender's performance. There was so much going on with his character, just a great performance all around, stole the show if you ask me.

I agree. When I'd first seen it, that meant something, but now, the more I think about it, there isn't much of a show to steal.

I liked it enough. It borrowed an awful lot of elements from Alien, right down to [BLACKOUT]that disturbing birth scene[/BLACKOUT]. But one thing I didn't understand was why [BLACKOUT]the film wasn't set on LV-426?? [/BLACKOUT]

Yeah, the two minor things I'd change is, I'd have [blackout][it set on LV-426, and I would've had the xenomorph burst out of the dude's chest while he's sitting in the chair.[/blackout]

That's what I was expecting. I've been told since that I have to watch another two films before that happens. :cmad:/:huh:

I don't believe the black liquid and the Xenomorphs were bio weapons. The theme of the movie was about faith and finding the answers to our beginnings. When the crew accepted the engineers as our gods it begged the question who created them?

In the room with the cannisters there was a shrine to the Xenomorphs as well a giant stone head resembling a human's. Well u don't make murals and statues to weapons. I believe that the engineers were looking for their creators too but they were already long gone and sought to recreate them.

They created humanity on earth but they were disappointed in us. We were an inferior version of them. We weren't their perfect being we were their vickers. They decided to replace us with the Xenomorphs but their perfect being, their David turned on them.
It's also possible we were created with the intention of being the base or host for Xenomorphs or that their were different faiths among the engineers and the one from the beginning belonged to a different sect than the ones that the crew encounters.

Ooo, I like that angle.

One time I really disagree Eggy, the movie has great depth and meat, I've been writing ideas about it all night lol. My love for it has increased.

I'm not happy to be saying it, bud. I was looking forward to this for ages, but since I watched it last Friday it's lost a lot of its shine. Maybe a repeat viewing will show me what I want, and I will give it the oppertunity, but until then, eh...

So have I my friend lol, but I was not disappointed. I've seen it twice now, might see it a third tonight. But of course I say it with respect, not saying you cannot dislike it lol. I'm just saying I found a wonderful film, with some flaws throughout but great and deep none the less.

Did anybody else ponder (obsess) about...

The Tomb located underneath the Xenomorph carving?

And what happened to the Proto-Xenomorphs? Granted, they'd be history after 2000 years, however, there were no fossils anywhere in the hive.

I'll give it a go on Blu-ray. Often with films like this I need to watch it in the privacy of the oval office. I've seen the spectacle, and when it's released I'll be able to take in its depth (3D distracts me a lot). Plus, I always love Ridley's commentaries.

Def best theory Ive heard, Wished they focused on that a bit more. Good post.

I don't know if I really want a sequel as some have said, I think some of it is suppose to be mysterious and stay that way.

I want him to do his Blade Runner sequel first. The man is getting old so I'm sure he won't be able to make a lot more film.

Blade Runner was a one-shot and doesn't necessarily need a sequel, but had a big enough following to make shure a sequel can happen, in fact Christopher Nolan seemed to be interested in making it. Prometheus however ended with the promise of a sequel, Ridley Scott said it himself, unfortunatelly if he doesn't do it i doubt anybody will.

Scott's latest film haven't been spectacular either so i expect his Blade Runner to be of the same quality of Prometheus, a good film that could have had a little better script.

I hope he makes Blade Runner 2 but i'dd rather he ended the story he began than continuing a film that had a very solid ending.

One thing about Alien and Blade Runner that people forget is that he wasn't the guy that had the idea for the story of those 2 movies, it was allways based on other people's ideas, but he also had some good ideas of his oun and put them in the films, not to mention his great eye for futuristic visuals.

With Prometheus he had the idea but it was somebody else's scripts, he just needs to find the right scriptwriter. Seeing his work on Prometheus also makes me wish he had continued to work more on science fiction films, and makes me wish he continues to work on Science fiction films :word:

For me Prometheus is what science-fiction is all about and why sci-fi is my favorite genre (by a mile). Visuals, themes, set pieces. Thanks you Ridley for making sci-fi epic again.

So....
[BLACKOUT]Looking at the art of film scans it looks like there was suppose to be two engineers at the opening of the film. An elder one and the one we see in the film.

What does everyone think of that? Is the older person in the hood an engineer at all? I hope they release an uncut version of the film. It really did feel like some stuff was missing [/BLACKOUT]
