No film is perfect tbh.

I guess us "forum geeks" are just dissecting the film and it's flaws. In no way is it a bad film. It does have beautiful scenes, good SFX, and a thrilling scenerio.

But some sloppy writing and some plot holes seem to take away from the overall charm.

I'd still give this film a 8/10 now though.

T2 - possibly the best action movie ever made.

They clearly establish the T-1000 assimilates anything he comes into physical contact with.
T-1000 pokes his finger right through Sarah's shoulder and says 'call to John...'

why? You can now just call to John yourself.

There is no perfect movie the question is 'were you entertained?'.

Very true...which is why people who try to pull apart a movie just come off as annoying. Movies are entertainment...not a thesis you need to examine.

That's the thing...most people don't seem to really care about plot holes. If we did....then something like Star Wars should be one of the most hated films :P

Saw this a second time yesterday. I really liked all the cut aways to David in trying to compute what was going on or trying to understand. It adds to him trying to act as human as possible. I remembered how much Fassbender resembles Peter O'Toole when he dyed his hair after Lawrence.

And another thing I forgot about, that large emereld rock at the base of the xenomorph mural. Holloway said, "This is just another tomb." Hmmm...

Engineer looked like hansom squidward from Spongebob Square Pants

the only people i've heard that have a problem with the movie seem to be forum geeks. I don't hear the same complaints from people in person.
this is true. they also didnt complain about star wars prequels and a lot big budget fanboys movies that fans didnt like. but this is SHH. so what do you mean ? :cwink:

Yeah I can see your point and i respect it.

To general audiences, they don't care about which planet Prometheus and Alien takes place on, or minor plot holes etc. They care about the entertainment.

Us though on a message board take pleasure in taking apart these plot holes and debating/discussing them with others because that's what we like to do.

:woot::awesome:

Don't you understand? Wanna be film buffs and film school kids want to prove to you their ability to analyze and dissect every minutea related to popular films.

As is their right, but it's annoying being told I am stupid because I am prepared to give the movie a 'pass' plotholes and all. Yes, I saw the plotholes, have read about the plotholes have watched youtube clips of the plotholes but the movie gave me so much I couldn't give a **** about the plotholes.

I honestly don't care about plotholes unless they're gaping. Here I didn't really find any myself. Or I wasn't really thinking about them.

Yeah!!!

Honestly, if they had this movie on the same planet as Alien, it would make this movie soo much better and it would have created even more mystery as to how the Space Jockey in Alien had a hole in it's chest and how it got there etc.

I never expected nor thought that this "planet" was the same one from Alien. I doubt it was intended to be.

After thinking about this film so much and reading other people's opinions and analyses, I've come to respect it much more after my initial viewing. The hidden meanings, symbolism and nuances just make it better for me. I barely even think of it in terms of relation to Alien; there is no need to really. I'm actually more enthralled with where this heads than how it ties to the franchise; it has opened up the potential for so much more.

For what bit of time he did have, I did enjoy Idris Elba and his character in this film. He was most like the crew members in Alien not just in that he was the most "blue collar" of the characters but just in terms of how he was written and acted. You aren't given too much background on him but his general personality and character is established by how he interacts with others.

This is what was lacking for just about everyone else in the film besides David and Shaw.

Well Shaw and David were sorta the leads...not Fifield.

Ok Sigourney Weaver is the lead of Alien and yet I still really enjoy and remember Harry Dean Stanton's character. Hell even Jonesey the cat is established.

All I'm saying is that Prometheus could have used a little more of that aspect. They made somewhat of an attmempt "I'm here to make money, not be your friend!" but it just didn't work out as well.

I don't think Fifield was underdeveloped either.

In his screen time we know he liked rocks and money. He doesn't doesn't think the mission is worth risking his life for unlike Shaw or Holloway. His a skeptical/cynical kind of guy.

was this in the movie ?
i dont remember any attack on the prometheus ship when Wayland and the crew go to the engineer

Nope. This also wasn't in the movie:

They just jump cut from his running her into the wall to her yelling, "Die" and you know what. Apparently, the scene is longer and he actually ries to talk to her. But I guess Ridley and co. decided it may have given too much clarity and cut whatever their conversation was. :oldrazz:

Oh well.

I like the stubborn defense that the movie is good because "people are talking about it." All that really means is there was a lot of plot-holes, ambiguous scenes and unanswered questions. Lots of confusingly bad movies get people talking; it doesn't mean they're good.

Except lots of people are talking about things that are intentionally left up to the viewer and aren't really plot holes (namely why the engineers invented us and then turned on us) and are pulling from various religions and mythologies from around the world that are hinted at in the movie.

So, while some, like yourself, just hate it for it's shoddy writing (and I agree there are too many scenes of characters serving the plot and not their characterization and a messy middle), some actually see something interesting in it. If it is just a bad and poorly written film, people wouldn't be talking about its substance days later. Did anybody come out of the last three Transformers movies talking about creationism or anything of depth? Because those movies were also terribly written, in fact much more so. And nobody care to talk about the plot after they were over.

It's more than people just complaining about this movie.

Or its just poorly written. I have no problem with stuff being left for a sequel but this just has plot holes and I'm not even trying to find them. When I notice them then they are bad and writing is not good because I never notice them. This movie reminded me a lot of Snow White and the Huntsman. Fantastic trailers, average movie

Oh come on, Prometheus may be disappointing, but at least it had several good characters and enough depth to spark discussion. SWATH had all the substance of a music video, woefully underdeveloped characters and a plot so thin, it was invisible to the naked eye. I understand disappointment with Prometheus, but it's still better than that.

Went to go see it again but this time in IMAX 3D. I generally hate 3D films and hate essentially being "six eyes" (I wear glasses so now I've got glasses on glasses when I see them) but a friend of mine has been wanting to see it since last week. The 3D was breathtaking and completely enhanced the film as opposed to most 3D movies I had seen where you completely forget it's a 3D movie by the end of the film.

We're both really into underground comics and art and he mentioned how the film had a lot of representation of Moebius in it and that just makes me love this movie even more since I totally didn't catch that the first time.

I would probably go see this again.....I really do believe it's still my favorite film of 2012 so far.

...and I honestly believe the bar was set incredibly high with this film and a lot more people are dissecting it intensely than most other films on here may go through. I'm an ultimate nitpicker and I don't know why any 'plot holes' or 'plot rambling' has bothered me to the fact it's hindered my enjoyment of the film or anything in general.

I don't know if they need to make a sequel quite honestly. I like the vague ending and think it works better probably in our imagination than it would say in Prometheus 2.

I loved David, besides him no there was not one interesting character for me.

I just want to see Prometheus 2 to see if my favorite theory about its mythological basis is right. The fact alone that Soctt wants to name it Paradise[/i] really intrigues me.

David is worth more than the entire cast of characters in SWATH combine. :o ;)

Shaw's great too (has the best scene in the movie). I also thought Janek was fun.

Or the rhythm and flow of the scene was disrupted when that happened and didn't work for the flow that they were going with.

I must say that my reactions with the movie were like this:
Right After Watching it: Liked it a lot
Some time after watching it and realising some of the errors i began to dislike it a bit.
Now, after thinking more deeply about the plot, and some of the things i previously didn't like i'm begining to love it more and more, no disapointment for me
