Great that this is filming. I still can't believe Scott is actually doing this. It's a pipe dream come true and something even better.

Exclusive: Noomi Rapace On Prometheus
http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=30527

Thanks, then, to Noomi Rapace for sharing a few titbits on her character, scientist Elizabeth Shaw, when we caught up with her at the Jameson Empire Awards. "She’s not that damaged which for me is kind of nice," laughed the one-time Lisbeth Salander, now a week into filming at Pinewood. "She has an inner strength that is quite beautiful and a pureness too. She’s very obsessed with finding out something."

Rapace wouldn't elaborate on what exactly that thing is but it could answer to the name 'voracious xenomorph'. So will Prometheus mirror the psychological horror of Alien? “Yes, kind of," says Rapace. "What I like so much about the Alien movies is that they’re out there in space and it’s weird, but [the characters] are very human and very down to earth. That’s what [Ridley] created and that’s who he is, and I think we’ll probably see that again on this one."

im really hoping i like this film. the alien movies are a unique combination of films, i like them all, some more than others but i like them regardless (i even like the predator and avp films so they are all one giant storyline as far as im concerned). its interesting that this probably wont have any xenomorphs directly in this film but leading up to the events of the original in a way that will hopefully make sense. im not a big fan of prequels to older films but this and the thing prequel i have high hopes for because i actually do like the originals.

The next year of waiting is going to be difficult, so damn difficult! :)

“Old School Scifi” for Prometheus.

You can expect a lot of stuff coming out of Twitter for Prometheus. London based visual effects artist Daniel Sidi posted this on his Twitter:

“I spotted some sets and props being built for #Prometheus at Pinewood Studios. Looking good, very old-school sci-fi. Sorry, no photos ;o)”

When asked to elaborate, he said: “hard to be too descriptive, but the phrases ‘giger’, ‘corridors’, ‘intersecting tunnels’ and ‘organic forms’ spring to mind.

I asked Diane O'Bannon [wife of original Alien writer, Dan O'Bannon] on FB about whether or not Prometheus is Alien-related a week ago, and she said that no-one had gotten in touch with her about it, but they should have, as FOX have an obligation to the original creators if it is.

Well, today we were discussing the naming of ALIENS, when she let in that: I've been officially informed that PROMETHIUS is indeed taking off on the original ALIEN story.

So there ya go

It's in the Alien unvierse. [You can see her comment on the Official O'Bannon FB page, here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Official-Dan-OBannon-Fan-Page/206990601009]

EXCLUSIVE: Update On Ridley Scott's Ultra Secretive PROMETHEUS!!
Hey guys! Got an exclusive update from one of my inside sources and in this case it is in turn from a source of his own, so take all of this with a grain of salt. But know this, my source here is one of my top taps of information so I am always excited to hear from him! Man I hope this is all true...

**WARNING POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW!!!
Do not read further unless you want to risk a pristine viewing experience of Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS.

This is directly taken (mid email) from my source (emphasis is mine):

Be aware, there is a campaign of disinformation that is going to be used about this upcoming movie, I do not know that if inadvertently I am being used, however, the manner in which the conversation came about, I seriously doubt it.

Ridley Scott's sci-fi movie, currently going by the name Prometheus, is going to be a very large and intense story, with a scope that is epic, the final act is where the movie switches gears and shifts into Aliens territory. Pinewood houses an exact replica of the H R Giger Space Jockey command post. You may notice in the original Alien that the Space Jockey had a puncture on its considerably large chest, where the xenomorph broke out through the flesh of the creature and broke through the biomechanical armor it wears. You may also notice how big the Space Jockey is in relation to its human counter parts in the film. So imagine how big the baby must be, which is yet to grow. Then imagine quite a few of these. If you can do that, you got a pretty good grasp on the final act. And do not be expecting the traditional look either, these are very different creatures that will keep the general architecture of the xenomorph, but will have a considerably different look, and do very perverse things.

However, before all of this I hear that the story is not only reminiscent of 2001, but is also trying to push the boundaries of what a modern tent pole science fiction movie could be. This is all I can share, but trust me, you seriously need to start being excited about this project, because not only is this I am assured, not nostalgia for nostalgia reasons, but a whole new spin on that old chestnut.(Editor's note: I am definitely excited about this project! As many of you can attest I'm sure :-)

The story is a very closely guarded secret in Hollywood, and while it is not a direct prequel "officially" it has more than just passing ties towards the Alien saga's canon. You will have all the things that worked in the Alien canon, and very new and fresh and some controversial ideas presented, sexuality is dealt with quite directly. There may even be a robot or two. And the ship, which I am told is the current titles name, Prometheus. Highly original, both in concept and design I hear.

Man I can't wait to hear and see more about this project! We all know what Ridley Scott is capable of, and this is his beloved ALIEN universe!! It is beginning to sound like we are about to get everything we have ever wanted in a prequel.

So what do you think of the inside info? Do you think it's true or "true rumor"? :-) Most of it holds water with me so time will tell. I assume that the prequels revisit the ALIEN star system Zeta 2 Reticuli.

Personally I think we may be shocked at what is in this movie. Seriously shocked. I think there may be elements of sexuality never before explored in a major tentpole sci-fi before. My opinion of course, but look out. I am sooooo hoping for a 'hard R'.

‘Prometheus’: Michael Fassbender on Ridley Scott’s ‘breathtaking’ project

http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2011...bender-on-ridley-scotts-breathtaking-project/

Michael Fassbender is just three weeks into the filming of Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” but the star says the experience is a dazzling one already.

“I walk on the set and I feel like I’m walking on a spaceship,” Fassbender said. “It’s breathtaking. All the various panels and screens and it’s just dealing with a top-notch art department and carpenters and the riggers and everything that goes into putting that together. It’s just, well, breathtaking, all of it.”

The June 2012 release, which also stars Charlize Theron, was originally conceived as a prequel to Scott’s 1979 classic “Alien” but veered off in other directions to become a stand-alone project (or, perhaps, is still a prequel and is simple being disguised to preserve some mystery). Fassbender wasn’t at liberty to say too much about the film but I asked him if the character he’s portraying has been especially elusive or if the contours are made clear by the script.

“I feel I’ve got it at my fingertips, it’s there but challenging and, you know, I’m excited. I’ve got a few ideas that I’m running with and I think I’ve got a grasp on it but it’s always something that, organically, moving on its own course. I’m having a lot of fun with it. There’s a lot of interesting quirks and niches to him and I’m having a lot of fun exploring it.”

Even though it’s still in the early days on the set, Fassbender said interacting with Scott has been a career moment for him. “It’s great. He’s just so precise and fun and mischievous and just full of interesting and quirky ideas for the character. They come to you in passing but then he lets you run with it and there’s a lot of freedom there. I’m really just enjoying it and everything in general, the whole crew is so veteran and talented from all departments down, the camera, wardrobe, makeup, props, the works — you’ve got the cream of the crop and it’s an honor just to be allowed to be part of it.”

“Prometheus” will arrive 30 years to the month after Scott’s “Blade Runner” and, shockingly, it will be the director’s first sci-fi film since that classic starring Harrison Ford, Sean Young and Rutger Hauer. Fassbender, who will be in theaters in a big way this summer in the role of the young Magneto in Fox’s “X-Men: First Class,” said “Blade Runner” holds a special place in his heart as a film fan.

“It’s my favorite movie. I just love that movie. And really I love all the different versions, I just don’t care, I love that world and whatever you want to take from it you can take from it, nothing is fore-set in any way. I love that it’s a very feasible futuristic place, and again that quality that you’re in a thriller but you don’t know it. There’s always something at play and everyone has an agenda but none of it is really openly expressed.

Is this movie still aiming for a PG-13 rating? If it isn't, then I will say that I hope that it's better than 'Alien', like alot better.

Last I heard it would be R and play exclusively in 3D theaters to make up for the lost teenager revenue.

I seriously wish I was Michael Fassbender right about now.

I highly doubt that as they will be losing revenue from the people who either can't watch 3D or don't like to. There will be a 2D option. If there isn't a 2D option I won't be able to watch this in theaters. I get a splitting headache from 3D, and no matter how much I want to see it in theater's I'm not paying $14 for a headache. I wouldn't even be able to enjoy the film.

You're not alone. My eyes don't really register 3D unless it's something like the end of Despicable Me where the minions are jumping out into the audience. Avatar, Tron Legacy, etc where basically in 2D for me. Except I was wearing glorified sunglasses.

I can pick up the depth of field, but its the panning shots that kill 3D for me. When something goes from the left to right of the screen or vise versa that's when the glasses become distracting because I notice the gap from the image going from the one lense to the other. Its not a smooth thing for me. Camera techniques, grading, and cinematography among other things are all things I focus on when I watch a film. I soak it all in, and the glasses take away from all of that for me. I believe its the glasses that give me a headache. Get rid of the glasses, and 3D and me will get along just fine, but until then I can't watch it. I shouldn't have to view it through a filter, and if my brain or technology can't do it without the filter its a flawed product.

your post is seriously the only place that I've ever seen that reported and if its true then its pretty much the worst business plan I've ever heard.

So Michael Fassbender is playing a android named David? Cool!!!!!

Also can a Mod please change the name of this thread to "Prometheus".

12% of the US population cannot see 3D due to eye issues.

Is it sad that I already want to see a trailer?

And Fassbender playing an android is so fitting for him.

I agree, not that he's wooden, but because he's so dry. The man is seriously in a class of his own compared to actors of his generation. I think the only guy close would be Joseph Gordon Levitt, who is amazing as well.

Here's some trivia, I don't know if I've mentioned:

Ash
Bishop
Call
Dave
