Prometheus

I guess I should have quoted the post so as to prevent confusion, but I was talking about the excerpt in the link Samsnee posted:
Earth. Year 2058.

Archaeological digs in Africa reveal alien artifacts that humans were genetically engineered by a advanced alien race (space jockeys). These "Alien Gods" also terraformed Earth in order to make it habitable for their human creations. Amongst finds are coordinates to the Alien God's home-world, to Paradise. Months later the Weyland Corp launch the spaceship PROMETHEUS and his crew, into deep space to make first contact. Thanks to faster than light travel a few years later the PROMETHEUS enters the Zeta Riticuli star system. Humans are greeted by their makers, then transported further into space to a scary yet fascinating world. The Alien Gods are proud of their "children", their first creation to reach such levels of intelligence.

As a reward they share bits of their astonishing bio-based technologies with the humans. But for one crew member of the Prometheus it's not enough. In a treacherous act he steals the "bio-source code" to Terraforming, a technology at the origin of all Gods' power, that could make humans equal to the gods. The Alien Gods may be scientists but are also ruthless conquerors, destroyers of worlds who will not accept humans as equals. They unleash on the escaping human crew their favorite bio-weapon, a creature used to "clean up" worlds before colonization. But something goes wrong in the process and humans manage to turn the bio-weapon against their makers. Giving birth to a smarter, nastier, bigger breed of gut eating creatures. Creatures that will be the demise of Paradise. What's left of the Prometheus crew manages to escape the doomed planet.

On their trail a survivor Alien God in very familiar ship with one ultimate mission. Bring the wrath of the Gods to Earth.
But yeah, if Alien takes place in 2121, 2085 as a year for this film would be much more believable to me.

I agree. This synopsis could've been put together by anyone.

EDIT: Take this w/ a grain of salt but Fox says that supposed "Prometheus" synopsis is "way off"... http://***********/#!/joblocom/status/86585649142046720

I'm glad that plot outline has turned out to be a fake, it sounded hokey and a disservice to the mystique of the Alien.

Responding to the rumors which they have said are “way off,” Fox has dropped an official synopsis/logline for the film. Here it is:
Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.

It doesn't seem a million miles off the 'fake' synopsis. But the 'stranded' thing seems different.

There are some things that make me question the validity of this. One of them is, like FingersMcGhee said, light speed travel when this takes place before Alien where they freeze themselves for space travel. Another is the year... 2058? I don't remember if Alien gave the year that it takes place or not, but I don't think this is far enough into the future to be saying we'll be having a good deal of space travel by then. I mean, Blade Runner takes place less than a decade from now, and we aren't going to have flying shuttle cars, replicants, weird blimps with huge TV screens on them, etc. all over the place in LA in 2019 (I think that was the year). So I think Ridley will want to push the year as far out there as he can get. Also, having a ship named Prometheus and having an allegory of the Prometheus myth within the film itself? I'm just not convinced. I don't know, maybe it would work within the context of the film itself, but it seems really cheesy to me.

Anyway, I got my Alien Anthology set in the mail today! $33 from Amazon UK, region free, and it only took a week to get here to the states with standard shipping. So I am a really happy Alien fanboy. :awesome: The reason why I bring up getting this, though (and this may have already been something that's been discussed), is that in that little booklet that comes with it, Ridley Scott talks a bit about Prometheus and mentions the "return to this dark, mysterious universe filled with Aliens, Space Jockeys, and...something even more dangerous that you haven't seen yet." Has there been any speculation about what this might be?

I also have that same copy and been waiting for any news on this too, so far zippo! Guess we just have to wait for now. They should really start promoting this already if they're releasing it next year, web virals and things, I hate when they leave things last minute.

Wow Ben Foster too? He was great in 3:10 to Yuma, I can't wait to see him in this. Solid casting so far.

Ben Foster knows how to play a crazy and normal character. good that they got him.

i hope they will not spoil the story and aliens in the marketing.

Ben Foster is such an underrated actor. He has real acting talent that doesn't seem to get much attention. He's in bad movies, but he deserves so much better. I'm thrilled he's in this. This cast just got better as if it wasn't amazing already.

This is definitely in my top five most anticipated. I could be looking more forward to this than Spider-Man even.

Foster does well in creepy deep space sci-fi films... he was awesome in Pandorum. Hell, he's pretty awesome in everything. Hopefully he plays someone crazy, because he's damn good at that.

I really don't care about what actors have joined I just want film information!

Ben Foster is awesome and this cast is awesome. Can't wait for a trailer!!!

Agreed!

I'm super excited for this film. Trying not to get my hopes too high but even the little snippets that have leaked so far have a lot of potential. Hopefully Ridley Scott can get the Alien Universe back to its former glory after Alien Ressurection, AVP, and AVP:R.

This movie is already better than Alien 3 and Ressurection.

I'm sure it's got better acting. :o

I can't see it being as weak as the AVP movies. They've got nowhere to go but up.

Ah Ben Foster, the poor man's Ryan Gosling.
