I liked him because of how others crapped on him. But outside of the opening scene he wasn't really a threat and was pretty one note.

I liked the performance and thought Ben Mendelsohn was acting his ass off...but undead Peter Cushing and the big man stole every scene they were in. Krennic seemed very much in over his head when compared to those two, and I think that was maybe deliberate. But I also suspect there were scenes of his that were cut or reshot which may have effected things.

But in terms of where I'd rank him? He's right in the middle road of the series villains.

9/10 especially for the 3rd act and the fact it adds so much to OT.

Nothing happens in this movie that you didn't already know. And no, you didn't need an explanation for the flaw in the design of the Death Star because the incompetency and bureaucracy of the empire already explained that.

This movie gives you no reason to see it-- it has no reason to exist. This movie isn't soulless like the prequels but at the same time it fails to give you any revelations about the Star Wars universe, Sith, Snoke, or Mara Jade.

The camera work felt nothing like Star Wars (which constantly took me out of the movie), the score virtually vanishes, and I never connected with the characters (and I never will since they killed literally every single one of them). And what was the point of the damn crystal necklace? The whole movie goes by and then she dies-- the crystal never plays a roll (Chekhov's gun).

Forest Whitaker was the most interesting part of this movie and he wasn't in it 5 minutes.

The pacing is off in the first act, the script could also have been a little tighter there. It throws a lot of stuff at the audience with only a few actually important plot points. The third act is awesome and *****-inducing toward the end.

Vader was great. Most of the cast was great. The creatures were great. The CGI was great. The score could have been better but upon my rewatch I noticed some more touches that I really liked.

All in all, not a perfect movie, but a damn good entry in the Star Wars series.

Hey greens glad you enjoyed it man

Here's my review.

The good things:

Krennic. I wished he had more screen time. He was a very evil Imperial villain (and highly arrogant), but he didn't achieve much in the film and got humiliated and rejected left and right. He had a great build-up in the Catalyst novel, though.

The last act. My god, the battle on Scarif was simply amazing! I was on the edge of my seat and while the first half of the film felt a bit slow, that final battle made it for me. Superb!

CGI. Seeing modern-looking Death Star, planets, ships and Star Destroyers was simply amazing. While Tarkin's CGI had me a bit distracted at times, it was still impressive how they managed to make him look exactly like Peter Cushing. Also, the last shot of the fim! Lastly, the obliteration of Jedha and the Scarif space battle grant the movie a VFX Oscar nomination, imo.

Vader. Simply my most favorite thing in the movie. The moment they showed him in the Bacta tank and then when he appeared in front of Krennic, wow. It was amazing. My childhood favorite villain back on the big screen. I am very glad they brought JEJ in this. Vader simply doesn't sound like himself without that voice (the new Battlefront for reference). And his last scene, slaughtering those Rebels. My jaw dropped during that scene. They were right when they said he had a moment of pure horror!

Slightly disappointing things:

Giachinno's score, while good, simply didn't feel "Star Wars"-y enough. While they briefly teased memorable themes, I felt like there wasn't anything
too memorable in the score.

No opening crawl. While I knew the film wouldn't have an opening crawl, I was still instinctively expecting it to appear after the "A long time ago.." line. The movie felt weird jumping straight into space right after that line.

Slow first half of the film. It felt a bit disjointed and the introduction of the characters was basically fast jumps between scenes/planets in a "Suicide Squad" style (and in a bad way).

Overall, I give it 9/10. The first spin-off SW film is a WIN! The negatives are simply compensated for the awesome positives. I really can't wait to see it again!

Nice to hear you enjoyed it man.

Just got back from the movies and I am not sure how I would rate it. I know it is way below episode 5-7 though. I loved how there where a lot of easter eggs but I felt like most of the movie not a lot was really happing plot wise and I didn't care for the characters much where with a movie like episode 7 I loved the characters. Also not having Williams doing the score you could really tell has star wars has always had great music and most of this movie really all of this movie the music felt generice like most movies do and it just makes me worry more about star wars movies and there music once Williams is either gone or not in good enough health to do it any more. Dark Vader was the great great thing about this movie. The last part with him oh my that was epice!

There was a lot to like, really enjoyed the second half and how it wrapped up at the end, very clever and with some great moments from the franchise in that second half especially.

The first half wasnt bad just felt like a lot of planet hoping and set up without anything significant happening, could have done with a great early action set piece to wet the apatite for later. The characters were all decent and well played if only a couple were really memorable. Still loved all the nods and inclusions from prior films they slipped in, never felt jarring except for maybe the
CGI characters
which I can see what they were trying to do and they did the very best you can probably do with modern tech but it will always stand out to the human eye.

Overall I would probably place it third in the overall SW movie list just squeezing out last years TFA due the the epic 2nd half but it certainly gives hope for the spin-offs and non main event SW movies.

After seeing the film twice I felt I could more clearly headed write this review. Rogue One is a great film, another great Star Wars addition from Disney and Lucasfilm Limited. After decades of reading and absorbing the old expanded universe and spending years telling people you could do lots of things with the Star Wars universe Rogue One is the first step in that direction.

Rouge One is a gritty, war film that gives you a different perspective of folks living in our favorite galaxy far far away. Director Gareth Edwards takes us to many different alien worlds and locals and gives each of them a sense of depth and scale. The texture of Rogue One is through and through Star Wars. Continuing that lived in physical feel of The Force Awakens Rogue one makes me feel that I could go to this world, and truly live in it.

Right off the bat the film starts out different then any other Star Wars film, it shows this is not like the main Episodes that we have become accustomed to in the past 40 years. The story is really that of the Dirty Dozen, and Saving Private Ryan meets Star Wars. There is no force wielders or any larger than life heroes and villains. Which is a really interesting aspect, but also a slight negative that I will go into later.

First for the positives. The looks and the feel of this film is great. Rogue One is a film that really expands on the Star Wars universe making it feel much more vast and diverse. This film has you bopping around to many different planets and situations right off the bat and letting us see more of this wonderful galaxy. The worlds and background characters give you even more intrigue making you wonder what is around each corner.

Second the story, though quite simple, and sometimes becomes a little overly complicated for it's own good Rogue One has a fresh take compared to the other seven main series films. You have some more grey areas, and characters of unknown morality. It gives it some freshness that has never really been in the series before.

Rogue One shows that Star Wars in itself is a genre, and can be mixed with other film genres. You have this film mixing Star Wars with a gritty war genre and it works. It gives lots of hope of what can be done down the road with Star Wars. Lots figured you could not wade out of the main series but this film for sure can.

Of course the third act gives you quite an action filled portion of the film. With some amazing scenes. Edwards as always really brings it on the visual point and there is so many great visuals in the film.

As for characters, all were well acted, and I liked them all, but there was something big missing which I can do into later. But Chirrut and Baze were my favorite characters, I liked K-2SO but mainly because he was the levity in an otherwise down beat and dark film. But Chirrut and Baze really were intimate with the audience, not only were they awesome, they had a connection to one another and to the audience, sadly that connection was not as much there for other characters.

Now for the down sides of the film. I loved this film, just not as much as Empire, Hope, and Awakens. I would put it maybe a little above Jedi or around that area. Rogue One's biggest flaw is it lacks something, my brother walked out of the film and said from an emotional standpoint he felt a little empty. Though all the characters are good, and never prequel level acting or characterization, there is a lack of deeper connection and intimacy with the characters especially Jyn and Andor and even Krennic. With The Force Awakens JJ brought charm and intimacy with the characters, since it really was a character focused film. This film does not contain that outside of Chirrut and Baze some of the more emotional moments were good but more situational then that of intimate and emotionally honest. Even the prequels had this feeling of intimacy with the characters even though they were poorly written and executed there was this overall feeling of a different kind of emotional connection that only Star Wars knows how to bring . This was just the biggest flaw all around I felt, though you cared about the characters there was still a disconnect and emotional gap that was missing. Andor was hard to pin down and some of Jyn was as well.

The second thing is the score. Michael has been my number one choice to replace Williams when he retires, I still think he could do it, and I know that Rogue One's score was written and produced in 4 weeks with a massively rushed schedule. It was good music, but no where near what Williams has brought. No real outstanding themes.

Some minor things like pacing issues in the first few acts, some of the over the top nods to the original trilogy. Just like TFA there are like 4 moments where you have to kind of roll your eyes. (Blue milk). Saw was really mediocre and just kind of there. Krennic was not near as amazing as he could have been. Also there are two CGI characters people know about, the really big one is actually amazingly done, a few shots where it's noticeable but extremely well done. However the last CGI character....they really should not have put that in at all, it kind of took me out for a moment.

The last low was we had a group of friends that went with us. Two of them are not really big Star Wars fan, and honestly they were confused a lot. Some of it made me realize even though The Force Awakens borrows from A New Hope, it really stands on it's own more. For a Stand-alone film Rogue One really does not stand alone, it's so connected to A New Hope they were confused and probably should have seen the original film before viewing this. So if a non-Star Wars Fan goes into this blind, I don't think they will like the film much at all. It does require knowledge of the universe to a small degree.

But overall Rogue One is great film. It is a wonderful tale showing a different shade of the Star Wars universe and promising many more things to come. Those afraid that Disney could not try some new and unique things are 100% wrong and Rogue One shows this. Though the film lacks some of the previous Star Wars film character intimacy and emotional honesty this film is a high quality Star Wars adventure giving an injection of freshness and expansiveness and showing people the Extended Universe can work and Star Wars has endless possibilities. Those that may not be as much into character driven films like The Force Awakens may like this more action filled version a little more.

Pros:
-Fresh story and perspective
-Good characters
-Amazing visuals
-Some of the best action sequences in a Star Wars film
-Expands the galaxy greatly
-Chirrut and Baze
-Amazing new designs and art work all around
-Feels extremely lived in and Star Wars.

Cons:
-The characters for the most part lack intimacy and connection that others in main series are known for and some of the charm
-The music is good but pales in John Williams previous masterpieces
-Some pacing issues, Saw's character, the last CGI character, and some of the over the top winks and nods
-The film relies on A New Hope much more than I thought it would. Not as stand-alone as it could have been.

Bottom Line: Rogue One is another great addition to the Star Wars universe. Showing that you can expand the universe into new genres, tales, and areas for many many years to come. Though lacking in some of the heart and soul/charm of Empire, Hope, and Awakens Rogue One stands proud and tall and gives everyone another great Star Wars addition.

Score:

9.0/10

The Empire Strikes Back-10/10
A New Hope- 9.7/10
The Force Awakens 9.5/10
Rogue One 9.0/10
Return of the Jedi 8.8/10
The Phantom Menace 6.5/10
Revenge of the Sith 5.5/10
Attack of the Clones 4.5/10

I really get concerned that some people don't know how to write "a review", but more or less write "feelings" or "This is what I didn't like". Mentioning ANH without proper context is like reading a 7 year olds book report they wrote on the bus that morning without reading the book. Some people cannot articulate a review, they just cant. That, and 10 minutes after this went up, some Joker low rated it. I don't even care if people are jerks doing this stuff anymore, it's just a shame we cannot call them out for it.

I'm the one that voted 1/10, and I was being completely serious. Maybe, if you pressed me, I'd move it up to 2/10, but that's the maximum I could give it.

For comparison, here's what I rated the rest of the series:

TESB 9/10
ANH 8/10
RotJ 7.5/10
TFA 7/10
RotS 5/10
TPM 4/10
AotC 3/10

Uh-huh. Yeah, sorry, this is not a 1/10 film, especially rating it below AotC.

I used to do IT customer product reviews for an employer, and part of my responsibilities was to remove "troll reviews" like that from the company website. Chances are you didn't even watch it (which the rating is a huge red flag pointing to that). Carry on with your weak troll game.

Currently i rate it 9/10. Thats on the same level as Star Wars. A little bit lower tho.
Might slip to RotJ and TFA territory in time but it is a great movie.
The beginning takes some time and is jumping around too much. Saw was the only annoying character. The score was okish. Nothing to write home about.

Without Saw and a little bit better editing in the beginning and a better score the movie would be on par with Star Wars.

for reference
ESB 10, SW 9, RO 9, ROTJ 8, TFA 8, ROTS 4, TPM 3, AOTC 3

It is pretty much impossible for this to be a 1/10 movie. Even if I dislike a movie I can find things that bump it up to at least a 3 or a 4.

In some ways, the movie has fewer script flaws and better CGI than TFA, but nothing can change the fact that the music isn't Star Wars (might as well be Rolling Stones) and the camera work is intently anti-Star Wars.

The director didn't fail to match the cinematography of Star Wars-- he purposefully broke from it. You either won't notice and won't care because you never pay attention to camera work or you're going to be thinking about the camera for 2 1/2 hours. From the very beginning I was thinking-- this is a beautiful scene but it doesn't look like Star Wars.

Whoa!!!! For some no name SW characters this movie just blew me away!!!!

This made the prequels and Lucas look pedestrian!!!

Wow!!! Leia, Tarkin and Vader at the end were amazing!!!!!!

Lucas came up with a great story but this and TFA shows how GL's directing skills are very remedial.

Thank you GL for selling your creation to people that doesn't see your creation made for kids.

Cmon Disney reboot 1-3!!! I couldn't believe what they just did with Tarkin and Leia and even some of the original rebel pilots.

A decade from now actors will be obsolete.

I LOVED it.

Maybe be the movie of the year for me, out of the blockbusters I've seen. Yes, the first 20-30 minutes do drag a bit and it has pacing issues, but my GOD the last 30 are just perfection. After a year of movies with a weak third act, this one delivers on all the levels.

And while you could tell that Tarkin is artificial, he looked nothing short of amazing to me - I bought every second. Lea less so, but still fantastic.

Dark Daddy can have all my money - I could have had an entire movie of Vader sass, him cutting down rebel scum and Tarkin/Krennic measuring contests, epic backstabbing.

All in all, Rogue One exceeded my expectations and was the first movie on my most expected list not to disappoint me, after X Men and Suicide Squad.

One slight negative - the music was totally not Star Wars, I needed more recognizable themes then what we got.

Force Awakens had better characters, this one better story and action, but overall Rogue One comes on top between the two for me.

The Good:

-The cast is likeable.
-It's suitably dark and takes some risks.
-It was nice seeing Bail Organa and Mon Mothma.
-Star Wars Rebels references/cameos.
-That Vader scene might have been fanservicey, but I don't care because it was awesome.
-Some cool action.
-Etc.

The Not So Good:

-The score was, meh. Not terrible, but just ok.
-Krennic ended up being kind of disappointing as a villain.
-The first act is kind of wonky and not structured all that well.
-Some of the dialogue (which was fine overall) was wonky to.
-CGI Tarkin was, distracting. CGI Leia was, even worse and also completely unnecessary. Leia being there is fine, but do it a different way.
-The characters could have used more fleshing out (more on that later).
-Some of the best/coolest scenes/dialogue from the trailers/TV Spots were cut out of the movie (reshoots).
-Galen Erso was underused.
-Etc.

Also it's not a "complaint" per se, but I'm not sure how I felt about the ending. I did respect the guts that it took to do that, and I get what they're going for. But IDK if I completely liked/bought into them needing to do that. Also, the characters not being fleshed out enough dampened some of the impact for me personally.

But overall, I'd give it an 8.5/10 right now.

Devastating as hell (a serious tear jerker, I was about to lose it many times). Phenomenal action. Hilarious comedy relief. Relatable characters. One of the best Star Wars films. 10/10. Long live the rebellion!

Movie was okay -

Not near as good as Force Awakens or some of the originals. The[BLACKOUT] CGI Tarkin[/BLACKOUT] I thought looked great until they moved the mouth or character. Totally took me out of the moment and I thought[BLACKOUT] Lei looked great but likely because[/BLACKOUT] she didn't move much.

First act was not very good and bored me to death. Second act picked up and the third act was marvelous. Wish they had more [BLACKOUT]Vader but his last scene was incredible. [/BLACKOUT]

Solid 7/10

My ramblings...

Rouge One: A Star Wars Story

It's a Star Wars film that really put emphasis on the Wars part. It's finally good to see a "men on a mission" war film that just happens to be a scifi film with built in mythos. They did a great job on recapturing the original trilogy from the 70's clothes, hair, and props even more so than The Force Awakens ever did. As for the actors, they were just right for this. Everyone pulled in their fair share of screen time and the chemistry between everyone was the highlight of the film (especially K2S0). It's almost sad to see that this was a better Suicide Squad movie than the real Suicide Squad movie. And what I mean by that is that you can feel that the stakes are high and you really get involved with their mission. As for the villain, I thought Ben Mendelsohn did a serviceable job however I kinda wanted a little more out of him. The real surprise is seeing Darth Vader actually show in full glory why he isn't someone to mess with. Even with the limited screen time he was great. The action was another positive for me, I saw it in D-Box and it added a lot more to the fight scenes. If I got any negatives, it would be that the first act and a half could have been better. The pace needed to be a little faster but I still dug it. Overall, while I'm not a big Star Wars fan, I think this is easily the best one yet.
9/10

In a sense, Rogue One is something like the Marvel Studio installments that regularly crop up in theaters in between the "event" all-star Avengers reunions, a stopgap to keep the brand name in the spotlight while waiting for Episode 8 to arrive. Also, like most stand-alone Marvel offerings, while generally well-done, it can be skipped without really missing anything essential to the larger narrative. It's engaging but not as exciting or compelling as The Force Awakens, and while it sheds some interesting light into shadowy corners of the Star Wars mythos and serves as an intriguing companion piece to A New Hope, it doesn't ultimately add anything indispensable to the main series. As an excuse to spend a little more time in the much-loved Star Wars universe, it's a fun ride, but in and of itself, it's moderately underwhelming.

I can totally agree with this, but I think this is going to get people pumped simply based on those final few minutes. It is like you had this movie for 2+ hours, and then at the end they give you a stinger for the best Star Wars movie ever. So suddenly this good film becomes great.
