Justice League Real Talk - Where does the DCEU go from here? - Part 2

It shouldn't be. It's one we've heard the most development on, and one of the few DC projects in development that has had a director attached. It's always been a step and a half behind the other films in its development process.

Now, whether they will actually call it JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK...that's another matter.

Gotham City Sirens had a director, a writer, and a lead actress announced almost as soon as Suicide Squad was playing in theaters. Yet is is constantly being ignored by Warner Bros. whenever they announce their slate of upcoming movies.

Probably because it's not as far along in development. There's a method to their madness. There was a time when SHAZAM was only "on the radar", too. This stuff has been in development for years.

I imagine some films originally on their slate are getting further looked at, before final commitment is made...because there's nothing about the "Black Adam" film. So, I'm not sure this is the final slate; but, I do suspect WB will trim down their ambition. Those may be the 1st to get cut or are in question.

GOOD

We don’t need a Black Adam movie

Or a deadshot movie

Or 4 different ****ing Harley spin offs

Just throwing this question out here. Why would Zack Snyder be afraid of Superman? As in he was afraid of having Superman be the moral boy scout in a darker world?

He has the power to wipe out the entire human race, and if we believe there's even a 1% chance that he is our enemy, we have to take it as an absolute certainty.

Sarcasm aside. Why would directors be afraid of Superman? I understand that a lot of fans wanted something similar to Christopher Reeve. But I feel that depiction doesn't really work in this particular instance.

If they make GREAT movies, they can still do whatever they want. If the movies are good, people will go see them. Is not rocket science.

How doesn't he work? Because "Realistic" Superman has been so welcomed by the general public? sorry, more sarcasm

It's comic books. I've seen all of the original Superman movies. People keep acting like the things he did would be so out of place today. All he did was be slightly dopey as Clark and be charming, warm, kind, earnest, honest, true, and good as Superman. What's so hard about adapting that today? Dean Cain did it quite well in the 90s. We got a glimpse of it in JL too. It can be done.

I just think that in all honesty it wasn't so much the fear of Superman. They were just thinking that the description of Superman that you presented wouldn't be taken seriously. In retrospect, I can understand why they wanted to take a more serious, darker, and realistic approach given the modern take on the character.

Obviously a lot of fans didn't care for the change of direction in Superman. I just think studio executives were afraid that Superman being warm, kind, honest, true, and smiling would be considered "corny" and "cheesey".

A superman like that would be mediocre at the box office.

Cavills more serious portrayal is not the issue.

Its the fact the films have been garbage and zax Snyder is a useless director.

Note to WB, get s director who can effing direct a decent movie.

Yeah because a patriotic, naive, good hearted, boy scout living in a futuristic city is really going to be mediocre at the box office.

They need to reduce CGI for a start, stick Clark in a real world situation/threat and up the anti.

Captain Marvel meets Captain Marvel

It is still insane to me that they've got, arguably, the biggest megastar on the planet, THE ROCK, signed on play Black Adam and have no movie plans for him. That is BONKERS, man. They've had this guy signed for a couple of years now and your not even gonna have him in Shazam?! Not to mention, the guy actually seems EXCITED to be part of the DC universe, but make no mistake if they keep twiddling their thumbs like this he will leave. I'm sure the neighbors across the street have come knocking on his agent's door with juicy roles, too, several times.

He wants that Black Adam movie with Superman :oldrazz:

I think the slate is just a copy and paste from SDCC, add in WW2. That's it.

I believe 3 directors have voiced that they'd like to do a Superman movie

Matthew Vaughn has said he's wanted to, and from what he's said he's more into a classical take on the character.

Jordan Roberts (Kong Skull Island director) apparently pitched a Superman Red Son movie. Probably under that DC elseworld's banner WB was considering making.

Aronofsky has also wanted a crack at Superman, he likes MOS. But he also said that if he were able to make a Superman movie then he really wants to be able to put his own stamp on it.

This universe has been all about building superman’s character.
Not everyone likes the route they took to get there or the decisions they’ve made, but that’s what it was about.
The superman we got at the end of JL was the end result. The payoff.
If that little bit that we got in JL is ALL we get after all this build up? it wasn’t worth it.
****ing stupid.

I’ve defended the DCEU for a long time.
I have infractions because of it. :funny:
But goddamn

I'm unsure if DC will ever truly embrace the character of Superman as he is. You are correct, its like they are afraid that audiences won't like Superman because audiences seem to connect so much more to Batman, a "real" human being (whatever) without superpowers and who has a dark, tragic past. So they feel that maybe the only way to bring Superman to the big screen is to give us some "take" on the character, instead of just the character himself. Why is it Batman doesn't need some "take"? Or Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, etc? Why can't we just get Superman as he is?

Eventually, it will take some director with a wild and ambitious idea...."Hey why don't we just make an action film with Superman as a wholly good hero going up against insurmountable odds in order to right what's wrong and save people from evildoers?" Someone will pitch that wild and crazy idea and we'll get the Superman we all deserve.

The Rock schedules big movies years ahead of time. They have a plan for him, and we don’t know the details of it yet. But he’s clearly excited about something.

There are only "takes" on these characters. Superman has changed massively over the decades, and his character can vary wildly even between two in cannon comics published in the same month.
There's no definative version, no story that everyone will agrees is the way he really is. You can't make a Superman movie that won't leave someone saying "that's not my Superman".
Every writer, artist, director, actor etc brings their own interpretation of the character. There is no "real" Superman. There are only takes.

Give superman a decent villain for once. Hank henshaw, brainiac (but don't make him look awful, metallo, bizzaro. Think they should probably save darkseid for a good justice league film.

Because Superman as a character is difficult to write. He’s more or less omnipotent, so placing him in situations of genuine conflict or peril can be difficult to do in a relatable way for the audience. He is also deep down a pure heroic character, with a strong moral compass. This isn’t easy to write for either.

However, it can be done - and has been in many comic book stories, and arguably Donner’s film. The mistake WB keep making is to bring in people who don’t really understand what makes Superman work to make movies about him.
