Sequels Reboot.

Nobodys talking about putting characters in outter space just for the heck of it but if it went with the story then I'm certainly not against it. And whos talkin about watering down the movies? Thats the last thing we need in this world is another stupid movie that has great visuals but a crappy story. When I look at the x-movies I see good movies yet what I fail to see is the adventure that you get in the comics. And really aint nobody tryin to see an action movie that takes it self too seriously, thats why I think people(outside of these boards and maybe in them) liked the 3rd movie better and why Superman kinda floped. Now I'm not defending the 3rd movie because I really didn't care for the way they treated pheonix, but hey I can't blame em. A big FIRERY bird coming out of WATER messes up everything that they've been trying to incorporate in these movies which to me unfortunately is realism. I'm no huge die hard fan of comics but from what I do know the X-Men comics try to give you a feeling of what these characters have to go through yet they have fun with them as well taking them to places and allowing them to do things that let you know this is a fictional universe. To me what the X-men movies lack that is the key maketing strategy in movies like Harry Potter and Spiderman which is Fun. In just about non of the movies you do not see them having fun with their powers its always serious, except for in the third movie and a little clip in the first movie. People wanna know how cool it is to have these powers because they already know how un cool it can be. And if they wanna be so darn realistic then all the x-men movies should have been rated R because aint no way that wolverine can slice and dice that many people and have no blood to show for it! :)

An X-men film must be done in the same vein as the comicbook; scifi-fantasy, adventure, drama. It's not rocket science, however it is difficult to pull off without the right talent. X-men needs the spirited, meticulous and artistic approach observed in the fantasy genre's better films.

X-men is way to complicated for the wam, bam approach and way to fantastic and exciting for the ho-hum approach. Like Spider-man and Superman before it, comicbook movies need a very spirited, meticulous and artistic approach. If not you wind up with either a hollow film or a film that falls way short of the source materials ridiculous potential to be a huge hit both financially and critically.

This is where having a vibrant and visual imagination comes in handy.............

.......imagine a full blown battle between the X-men and the Sentinels in the middle of midtown Manhattan under the hand of Raimi or Jackson......or the Wachowskis....

.......the birth and fall of Phoenix under the talented hand of a Raimi or Jackson...The fiery Aura of the Phoenix envelopes a reborn Jean Grey. The horror and emotion as the X-men fall one by one in battle, at the hands of the Imperial Guard. They try desperately to stay Jean Grey's execution by the Shiar.....the final tragic scene between Scott and Jean....

Comicbooks are wonderous spectacles and the better films in the genre capture that, without dumping the story or character developement to appeal to a larger audience. IMO, a fully blown X-men movie would probably have a similar feel to the Star Wars movies; very fantastical and dark at times, yet the characters and emotions are all relatable....like the comicbook.....

...Sadly, with that said, I am coming to the realization that we may never see a real X-men movie, much in the same way we will never see a real Batman movie. The investment (talent, money, etc.) needed to bring such films to the big screen fully realized is a risk very few studios would be willing to take--to many places where things could go wrong. Much better to play it safe and make a crowd pleaser than aim to high and fail.

What an incredible film X-men could be though?...Wow, the potential.....

^ Wow...you said everything I tried to say and more. Like for real, everything you wrote I have thought about. The x-men are an epic story and the only way for it to come across as epic on screen is for it to stick to the way they are in the comic books just as you described 'very fantastical and dark at times yet the characters and emotions are all relatable'.

Yes. I'm agreed too. Good post, thegameq.

I've always seen the x-men as a new Star Wars. I like the realistic tone, and don't want neccesary the use of the space and all of that, but yes great action moments, like the big franchises, something big in the big cities, but in three films, the x-men haven't been in the city for more than 5 minutes, and only was the train station in X1 and the clinic in X3.

Don't understand how the x-men don't go to the big city to do the things all the humans do (like shopping centers, cinemas, any bar for the older members, etc). I'd love to see simple things like those in the movies, like so many other comicmovies, like all the movies in the cinema history.

...imagine 20th Century Fox losing 100s of millions of dollars beacause all of their newfound fans decided to skip on the now too far out new plotlines of the X-franchise...

Fox's #1 goal is to make $$$. They're not gonna spend more money on production to recover less in ticket sales just to please a few comic book nerds.

Sentinals and space scenes are expensive and would not be lucrative to the studio.

Transformers budget was less than X3, and Star Wars is a Fox saga, hehe. So.... :yay:

Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox aren't Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry :cwink: ... and X-Men isn't Star Wars... whose funding is hardly only provided by Fox.

That said, in the future, sentinels are a must... outerspace is not.

Point still...

Sentinals and space scenes ... would not be lucrative to the studio.

...regardless if they are spending more or less, they will lose viewers. Fox tapped and brought in a whole new fanbase by going the "realistic" route with their X-Men movies. My wife, for example, hates Star Wars, Transformers, & Sci-Fi in general... loves the X-Men movies. Fox will not give up that fanbase to please a few fanboys... it's not lucrative.

I don't like the idea of a reboot. Magneto would probably be the villain again and we've already seen that. It was really stupid of Fox to treat tthis is the last X-men movie. They know these movies make money and there is so much they haven't done with these characters, so much characters that haven't been introduced and so many stories that can be told. And then they kill off key characters for cheap drama. What a bunch of idiots.

Not lucrative?? How do you think Marvel got here in the first place? All them 'Fanboys' are the reason the X-Men comics have sold. Not to mention the books, cards, action figures, other figurines, and the popular 90's cartoon. If it wasn't for the 'Fanboys' going out and buying them Marvel wouldn't have even made it to the Dark/Phoenix storyline, let alone be able to introduce the hundreds of characters after the originals. But you are correct, Fox is unwilling to lose their new fanbase just to please the real X-Men fans and that's sad.

So if they were to make a stunningly incredible film similar to what I described, your belief, if I'm reading you right, is that such a film would fail because fans of the previous X-films have gotten used to the grounded, realistic take on the X-men Singer presented?

There are to many ways to argue against your post and it's been said before and will be said many times after, here and all over the internet.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained probably is the best response to your post.

Here, here. That`s a great post,i would also support GOOD X-Men films. But its not going to happen, personally i think the films have actually hurt the comics..worsening their quality.

Exactly! And the fans too! These movies have ruined the fans! I can't believe how many people think the movies are perfect! And why does everyone go off on Halle Berry and Storm and barely anybody says how TERRIBLE Anna Paquin(CRAPin) and Rogue are!?(Yeah I didn't like Halle Berry as Storm, well I didn't like any of the cast at all! But I think Anna did the worst job out of all the actors! She can't act at all! Just because she has an oscar, doesn't mean she can act!) It disgust me so much! And now supposebly Rogue's real name is "Anna Marie" in the comics WTF!?!? These movies have destroyed X-Men! I want to build a time machine and go back in time and stop this disgusting crap! Poor X-Men! They are sooo much better than this!

word, I like Hugh Jackmen and Patrick Stewart though other than that I didn't care for the series

Well yeah Patrick Stewart was actual the only good/ok thing about those movies. I didn't care at all for Hugh Jackman. I'll have to see the Wolverine movie(when it comes out on DVD! I ain't supporting it in the theatre! STUPID FOX!) and then see if I still think he was mis-casted as Wolverine.

It looks like Iron Man is gonna be the best adapted comic book movie so far! I really wish Fox never got the rights to X-Men and Marvel still owned them! Then we would have most likely a perfect X-Men movie franchise! I am loving all the news I've been hearing on the Marvel comic book movies that are being made right now that Marvel is in charge of! Great casting too! Man if I was a millionair or more I would give up all my money to Marvel so they could buy back their X-Men and save them from the butchering Fox has done!

I felt Hugh Jackman was fine but the script made for him was bad. The direction for wolverine was just wrong in my opinion. Iron Man I think is going to be the best direct adaptation of a comic book while staying true to the story. I think batman begins and tdk are the best movies based on comic book lore oh well

Well, like I said I'll have to wait and see the Wolverine movie(I don't dislike Hugh, cause he was upset with how Wolverine was being treated in the movies, but I just can't see him as Wolverine). I wanna write to Marvel and beg them to get X-Men back and save them and make them great like they are doing with Iron Man! Yeah, Batman Begins was really good! TDK I'm not sure. I lost some faith in Chris Nolan after he casted the Joker! YUCK! Barbie's boyfriend Ken(heathe ledger) as the Joker!? WTF!?

Ya since i'm a batman fan and have been seeing the stuff for TDK and I think Heath is perfect but thats just me

Out of curiousity... What did you see wrong with how Jackman played Wolverine? Personally I didn't think he did that bad playing a "real world" style Wolvie.

I mean, he's not 5' 2, but you can't have everything, right? :woot:

Well it was not about the height I just wanted him to be like Dirty Harry mixed with Snake Plisken. have that kind of this is jsut pissing me off attitude. Then be more savage with his killing. Also i woulda wanted the quote "lets go bub"

I don't know that they could have gotten away with making Logan that dark. I mean, when the made the movies they wanted to try to put as realistic a spin as they could on a story about mutants saving the world. Having Wolverine run around cutting people's heads off and acting pissed off about everything wouldn't be any good on screen.

The Wolverine Jackman played had real humanity... and seemed more like a real person than comic Wolverine. And that's what they were going for.

Well I didn't mean literally killing people. He isn't necessarily dark he is the perfect anti-hero. He never wanted to get involved with this whole mess. It is just one big pain. The character is selfish but evolves to learn how to work as a team and learn to trust others. Think how you earn a dogs trust. I should have said his fighting should be more like he is angry rather than killing is savage.

Wolverine is not an anti-hero. He hasn't been an anti-hero in ages.

Hell, I could aruge that he's NEVER been an anti-hero. He's just a rough n' tough HERO.

I mean, Logan (in the comics) cares about his team members, his friends, and the people he's fighting to protect. He's not just out there fighting to fight. He's shown a willingness to self-sacrifice in the past too. He fights the good fight because he thinks he's actually bettering the world.

An anti-hero is quite different.
