Rogue One Rogue One Box Office Prediction Thread

Could be any reason why Rogue One is flopping Internationally lol

Outside of a few markets, Rogue One tends to be beating CW. It's just those few markets CW did really, really well. Its safe to say that Star Wars is still bigger than the MCU in the Western World.

My inner man hates me for being excited to see that musical next week.

Bah. Just wait till you upgrade to Operas. I try to catch them whenever the Met has a broadcast. Seriously, if you are a fan of The Little Mermaid, check out the Met Live Broadcast of Rusalka in Feb, through Fathom Event.

Ahhhhh.....BUT......Star Wars is NOT new......it tells the tale of events from a LONG LONG TIME AGO......
Wait C. Lee, does that mean you knew the actual Luke Skywalker?

Just a word to the wise about the true story of the Skywalkers.....some names were changed to protect the innocent.

I'm pretty surprised by the Chinese reaction.... would have thought the Messiah Donnie Yen would have raked in a large audience.

The 2 day total from China is 22.3 million. It's fine but not good enough.

According to chinese websites which record infos, Rogue One is a snoozefest. The chinese audience feels impatient while watching the first half of the movie and toys with their smartphones waiting for better things to happen in the 2nd half. That's not a good sign.

Both Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen are veteran stars and their fans are consists of more walk-ups than the online ticket buying folks. It's the young stars who have the online ticket buying craze in China.

Usually Donnie Yen movie have low presales but excellent multipliers in China. That could still happen. Let's hope for the best.

Not good enough for what exactly? Is Disney going to have to sell Star Wars now?

You were on my ignore list but your recent post was probably in response to one of mine so I guess I'll hafta give a simple answer. Rogue One's run has been fantastic so far. SW is still the king in the domestic and UK markets (North America and Europe) and it's an amazing achievement.

Rogue One is on course to gross 80-85 million in China and it should have done more than that. It's that simple. I've got no interest in your stanning for Star wars and imagining me hating on the movie thing. Have a nice day.

Why should it do more there? Based on what? TFA did 124m last year, and everything is weaker against the dollar this year. So how do you know how much a spinoff is suppose to make in China?

The movie is going to make over 500m domestically and 500m internationally. It is going to make over a billion dollars WW. This isn't stanning Star Wars. This is talking obvious facts. You being overly dramatic is hilarious though.

Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen are the reason Rogue One can get hopefully 70M+ in China, without them it would probably gross 40M.

Btw OW is around ¥212M, around $30.6M.

3.2M yuan (around $480k) mid-night from China according to Olive from BOT. I predict 8M opening day and 30M OW for 75M total (40% drop from TFA).

:hehe:

Nice prediction there mate.

If Rogue One follows the simple multiplier of TFA in China (124 million total of 52 million OW), it makes (30.6 x 2.38) = 73 million.

Star Wars still rules the domestic markets...... :) :)

#RogueOne has now entered all-time domestic Top10. Sits at #8 bumping down #StarWars #PhantomMenace in the process.

Further if you are a fan of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings epic tales with sweeping scores, classic character tropes and leitmotifs, check out Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring Cycle) for a familiar look at much of this stuff we love in these films.

4 Star Wars movies currently in the Top 10 all time domestic. (TFA, RO, TPM and ANH)

I didn't realize that phantom menace was the highest grossing prequel.

$914M as of now. It'll cross over a $1B.

Was Rogue One originally estimated to do better in China this weekend?

Thanks! I'm new to this but I think I'm getting quite good :D

Do you mean the weekend from 1/6 to 1/8? I think Rogue One already did better than expected. WOM after Friday was really bad so I didn't expect its could do as it did. And if you mean the next week (1/13 to 1/15) then Rogue One will have to compete with Passengers, and Passengers did really well in South Korea (it does about 60% Rogue One business). Passengers is promoted heavily in China too (with JLaw and Pratt in Beijing late Dec) so I think it'll do good.
