Eternals Rotten Tomatoes watch thread

tbh if you remove all the awful accents in BW, I would view it a lot more favorably

I have a question, if you are a DCEU Snyder faithful, and you view Marvel as the enemy, does viewing a Rotten Tomato Meter for Eternals truly give you some quantum of solace now?

Is this truly your ultimate revenge? Does this truly make your life better as a Snyder faithful?
@Lily Adler says yes.

The movie is pretty much a critical failure no matter how you look at it. That 50% rating with a 44% from top critics isn’t good in my mind. That’s still rotten territory, and I really don’t think that 50% will last. When it’s all said and done, I think movie probably finishes in the mid to high 40’s. That’s pretty bad, dude.
Critical failure doesn't necessarily equate o box office failure.
We shall see.

And I thought the IGN video on the bad reviews was bad enough…..
Explains the reviews for Wonder Woman. :o

I hate this is the movie they decided to do this with. Especially when you consider how obvious and bad it was with Birds of Prey and even 1984. Which whether you liked them or not, were clearly attacked from a sexist place.

I watched Friday's John Campea show.
A lot of marvel haters in there, today, ranting about the RT score.
The assumption was, that they were Snyder Cultists.

Strange way to go through life.

Yes, yes, YES.
As a secret Snyderite it brings me nothing short of satisfaction that we finally got our Snyder Cut of Justice League epic and it got fresh rating while an MCU equivalent to Mulan (2020) got the low rating it deserves.

Take that, insufferable demeaning word of useless opposition. :o

The discourse was not with the reviews. Mostly. How that movie ended up with reviews on par with Iron Man 3, which I like... I just don't know. Though that it got to 430 reviews probably says something. That a lot, even for a superhero movie. Wonder why...

Your argument is not well formed here. What are you suggesting exactly? Black Widow has 436 reviews on Tomato Meter right now. Black Panther has 525. WW84 has 435.

What does the count prove?

Also, Birds of Prey got much better reviewed than Suicide Squad, which is where Margot Robbie debuted as Harley Quinn.

I'm a Snyder fan who would gladly watch another 10 of his DC movies but acting this way about Marvel is pretty darn silly imo.

Seems some people are so blinded by their virtue signal of the day that they completely forget there are other films that disprove their point pretty fast. In this case, it's like he completely forgot about Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, BW, and BoP all being films with fresh RT scores in recent years. I'd say the score for Eternals is mostly due to the film not being as good as previous MCU films and expectations due to Zhao's recent Oscar win.

'Eternals' Review: Fine, but It Needed More Chloé Zhao to Be Marvelous - Variety

FYI this is Variety's OWN REVIEW of Eternals.

It turns out that Earth has been serving as a giant seed pod to hatch a new Celestial, and if the Eternals are to support that mission, it means…well, darkness. Can they come together to defend their adopted home? The suspense will not be killing you, though the final battle summons aspects of grandeur. To me, there are three top-tier team superhero movies: the first “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” “Eternals” is a fluid and sometimes bedazzling entertainment I’d place on the next tier, because it never transcends its conventionality and makes you go “Damn!” Maybe next time, Zhao can raise the stakes on the heroic vibes by mixing in a drop of nomad reality.

Mildly positive I suppose.

Honest question, should expectations be a factor in judging a film?

It shouldn’t be, but I don’t think there is any way someone could be 100% objective in judging something. We all bring our experiences and views into anything we do so to ignore them would be impossible IMO. That’s why it’s best to get multiple opinions and see what are the common praises/criticisms among them.

For what it's worth, I wasn't really a huge fan of Birds of Prey. I didn't hate the movie, but one test I have is after the movie has been out a while, have I either watched it again or had the desire at least to watch it again. With Birds of Prey, I just never have. I have no doubts some reviews came at that movie from a sexist place. But, I at the same time cannot say I loved it either

9 consecutive negatives, down to 48%, thereby firming up its score in the 40s after 262 reviews. Mind-boggling !

I don’t think it’ll go that low but imagine if Eternals actually went down to 29%(the same score as BvS), now that would be something to see.
