The Amazing Spider-Man Rules for the Reboot

To each his own, personally I loved Dafoe as Osborn, I think he was great! Raimi really nailed it with Dafoe & Molina as villains! I'm not saying their performances were perfect of course and they are sure as hell possible to top, maybe even beat, but still, they were awesome!

-Gwen Stacy Included
-Eddie Brock Included
-No symbiote
-No corniness
-Not too dark, but not too cartoony - set the right mood
-First fight Peter has make him wear casual clothes

Unfortunately, I think they're going with goddamm ole Maryjane all over again.

Just becasue MJ is going to be in the reboot does not mean/imply they are going with MJ all over again.. as in ALL about ONE girl.

MJ is an important aspect of Peter's life, just as Gwen is. Heck, without Gwen, you really have no MJ.

MJ should be an intergal part of the Reboot, just not ALL about ONE girl (MJ or Gwen for that matter), but each has an important role to play.

Also wondering if they'll repeat the Bonesaw fight? Seeing Randy Savage in the first film was a highlight in itself!

Well, as it turned out, Emma will be playing Gwen, which is weird (she looks a LOT like MJ and has shown some traits of the character in previous roles) but it is something fresh.

Let's see what happens next.

Here's a little list of notes I'd hand the powers that be, if I had the chance:

1) Spider-Man throws wise-cracks and one-liners on a near-constant basis. At one point in the movie, it should be employed as a strategy to enrage an opponent.

2) Costumes based on the 616 comics. Tweaks are fine, changes may be necessary, but nothing as drastic as the ridiculous Green Goblin we got, and nothing based on Ultimate. Also, Spidey's suit shouldn't be an attempt to ape the Raimi version. On that note...

3) Don't try to ape the Raimi films, period. People aren't going to pay 8-13 bucks to see what the same movie they saw years ago would have looked like with a different director. New suit, new stories, new...everything.

4) No randomly killing off villains at the end. I really shouldn't have to elaborate.

5) No stupid scene where Pete uses his powers, out of costume, in front of a huge group of people who know him personally, but nobody puts together the fact that he's Spider-Man. I hated that scene in the first Spider-Man, it makes every member of the supporting cast look like a moron.

6) As others have suggested, a quick, flashback origin ala The Incredible Hulk. Everyone knows Spidey's origin, we really don't have to see it again. Make the movie about how he deals with his powers, not how he got them.

That's all for now, but I'm sure I'll add more later.

Puuuurrfect. :cwink:

Yeah I pray that Spidey will keep his identity a secret. I just cringed when I saw Peter unmasked in front of all those people on the train in SM2. And I'm also starting to wish Tony Stark never revealed he was Iron Man to the world now too!

Get this to Marc Webb right now!!

It made perfect sense for Stark to do that.

Yeah, and for Stark, it's actually canon. That scene in Spider-Man 2 seemingly stemmed from Raimi's obsession with hammering home the "New Yorkers stick together," touchy-feely theme. Yeah, the guy just saved all of your asses, but you're telling me that not one person whipped out their camera phone? Right...

Ok here I go...

1. Web Swinging! Spider-Man 1 & 2 had some great swinging scenes that were used to show Spider-Man's entrance/exit into/from a scene. We had very little swinging in Spider-Man 3. That always urked me, so use plenty of web swinging in the reboot.

2. Balance of Spider-Man/Peter Parker: I thought the first and second movies nailed that balance. Spider-Man 1's mid-late parts had scene after scene of Spider-Man either saving Mary Jane (three times :o) and fighting Green Goblin. And there was breaks between those stints of Spider-Mania with some great parts with Peter talking to MJ/Harry/JJJ/Aunt May.

3. Humor: I don't want a lot of humor, like in Spider-Man 3, but I want Spider-Man dishing out insults too the villain(s). Not too much, obviously. A tad more than what Spider-Man 1 had. When the final battle comes, have no quips, but when it's just Spider-Man fighting the bad guy for the first and second time, have him do a lot of yapping. But if there's lives on the line, then I Spider-Man should shut up for a bit. But I want too see Spider-Man's humor come out more.

4. Character Bonding: Obviously, Peter can't fall in love right away. I think they should have Aunt May have a heart attack, and Peter and Gwen are taking care of her, at that time they start to bond and maybe start like each other more.

5. KILl GWEN STACY! My god, we have the perfect opportunity to kill her in the first/second movie. Please don't ***** out. I want to see GG kill her. We don't have to have a whole Goblin saga, but I do want to see GG in better suit this time

6. Don't kill the villain(s) unless necessary. This was one of my annoyances with Raimi's Spider-Man. At least save the villain so he can make cameos in future films. Maybe in later films they can have Spider-Man go to the jail to test the systems. **** goes down, and Spider-Man has to defeat the super villains that are stuck on the island prison with him. Sinister 6 maybe?

7. Final Swing. I always liked the Final Swings. If you buy Spider-Man 1 on Blu-Ray and put the Final Swing on a loop, you've got your money's worth. It's beautiful scene and I would love to see it again in the reboot.

8. Keep the damn mask on! I don't care if the suit gets torn up, but the masks stays on. And if the mask gets ripped. Make sure Peter's face is bleeding/bruised. In Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man's mask gets ripped and his face is perfectly fine. Even after multiple poundings from Venom and Sandman. It doesn't make sense!

9. At least one movie without a damn damsel in distress! Hell, for the first movie, I want to see Spider-Man stop the villain from doing something that could kill civillians or something like that. Let Gwen not be kidnapped for one movie!

10. Don't link the Villains to Peter! Now, guys like Normon and Conners I'll let slide, but don't link Electro or Shocker to Peter in anyway.

Totally agree #1. One of my favourite scenes of all time in the Raimi franchise was the chase after the burglar in Spider-Man 1.

2. Balance of Spider-Man/Peter Parker: I thought the first and second movies nailed that balance. Totally agree #2

Totally agree #3, you summed it up perfectly!

I really agree about character bonding, but I don't know about the heart attack in this one. This kinda reminds me too much of Spider-Man 1. But yeah, Aunt May should definitely be a "problem" for Peter.

5. KILl GWEN STACY! My god, we have the perfect opportunity to kill her in the first/second movie. Please don't ***** out. I want to see GG kill her. We don't have to have a whole Goblin saga, but I do want to see GG in better suit this time

Kinda agree. Let Green Goblin kill her, but not in the first one. Either 2 or 3.

Definitely agree about not killing off villains unless necessary. But I'm not sure about that prison stuff. Would be almost too much at once.

7. Final Swing. I always liked the Final Swings. If you buy Spider-Man 1 on Blu-Ray and put the Final Swing on a loop, you've got your money's worth. It's beautiful scene and I would love to see it again in the reboot.

If the movie ends happily, then yes. Otherwise, I don't think a final swing would fit.

Totally agree #4. But in the final battle against Green Goblin, things should get more personal and Peter should take his mask off imo. Peter should take his mask off when holding Gwen in his arms and then keep it off when fighting Green Goblin in rage.

9. At least one movie without a damn damsel in distress! Hell, for the first movie, I want to see Spider-Man stop the villain from doing something that could kill civillians or something like that. Let Gwen not be kidnapped for one movie!

Totally agree #5!

10. Don't link the Villains to Peter! Now, guys like Normon and Conners I'll let slide, but don't link Electro or Shocker to Peter in anyway.

Totally agree #6.

Overall...great post man!

Great list, Alex. I agree with most, with a few nitpicks of my own, but hey, that's just me. Personally, I think that unless something very dark and very personal has happened, the final battle doesn't have to be quipless. Pete cracks jokes in serious situations quite often, it's sort of a defense mechanism. Like I said, if it's something really serious and dark, like Gwen's death, then obviously, no jokes, but if it's just some big, perilous situation... well, we've all seen Spidey crack a few jokes in those kinds of situations before. It's all about tone. But hey, like I said, that's just me.

Couldn't agree more with number 6, though. The Sandman thing really annoyed me in SM3. I mean, does a superhero really need it to be personal for him to go after a villain? No. If you want to tell that kind of story, there are plenty of villains that already do have a personal connection to Spider-Man, you don't have to fabricate one.

Agreed with Alex aswell, on most of the parts at least. The only villain that should die, is the Green Goblin. Other villains, such as Mysterio, Shocker, Scorpion etc should go to jail, however, I don't think I ever want to see a Sinister 6 (okay, it works in comics, cartoons and such, but I'm not sure this will go well in the movies, so NO!).

A few things regarding his mask: he should not take it off, but with villains like Green Goblin and even Venom, things tend to get personal, because both of them know Peter's identity and both would go very far on hurting him etc. I wouldn't mind any of these 2 unmasking him, hell when SM will defeat GG I even want his mask to be OFF! As for what happened in Spider-Man 3, it was completely ******ed of course, you are totally right Alex. He was beaten, punched, he got hit with a pipe by Venom, yet his face wasn't even bruised, no blood no nothing. So damn unrealistic, even for Spider-Man! It's one of the reason I call it a "kids' movie" lol, but let's not get back on SM3!

Villains I can see die in a story are
Kraven (obvious)
Green Goblin (obvious)
Venom
Scorpion (for some reason I can totally see him in a death scene)
Electro (by his own powers somehow)
Some major mob boss such as Silvermane (killed by another mob boss such as Hammerhead or Tombstone (SSM))

Mysterio and Chameleon should mysteriously disappear. I can see Doc Ock do that too.

Lizard should go back to being human again.

Shocker, Sandman, Vulture, Rhino, Hobgoblin etc. should go to jail.

That's how I could see it.

Can we have his powers be consistent please, especially the Spider-sense. That'd be great.

Right...

Canon, sure. But I'd have still prefered to go at least 2 full movies before it happened. Same thing goes for the Hulk. Both spent at least their 1st 10-20 years with secret identities. And the thing is, both of them probably have the most(visually) fool-proof disguises imaginable among mainstream superheroes.

I really don't think they're gonna kill Gwen in the re-boot's first film, maybe 2 or 3 but not the first:

1)They cast Sony's it girl in the role. Her star will rise way high after this film, and they'll see her as a selling point for the franchise, if she's received well, so they will choose to keep her around....

2)Stone probably negotiated for a multi-picture deal, meaning she'll be in more than one movie contractually (that is unless she's used in flashbacks after her death).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyhow:

1)I want way more wall crawling in this re-boot. A spider's primary abilities is it's ability to walk on walls. They didn't show case this nearly enough in the other films. Yes, it's cool to see Spidey swing on his webs, but we need more wall crawling Sony!

2)Keep Spider-Mans mask on during his battles! There's a laundrey list of ppl that saw his face in the 3 movies, including the villains, and none of them wanted to cash in on this golden egg? Come on! Only a handful of ppl ever found out who Spider-Man was; GG and Venom being some of the few........not an entire train of New Yorkers!

3)We don't need Peter walking around like this love sick virgin, for whoever the love interest is this time. I understand that his love life is an important aspect of the 'ordinary guy' concept but don't ram the I love you so much MJ/Gwen aspect so far down our throats, that we choke on it!

9. At least one movie without a damn damsel in distress! Hell, for the first movie, I want to see Spider-Man stop the villain from doing something that could kill civillians or something like that. Let Gwen not be kidnapped for one movie!

Yes. This. Especially since in the Raimi films it was the same damsel, over and over and over again for the final battle.

I second the wall-crawling. I forget who said it, but I remember reading a quote from a Spider-Man artist that said that one of his golden rules when drawing Spidey is that, whenever possible, his feet shouldn't be touching the ground. Wall-crawling, swinging, hanging from a web, perched on a lamp-post... anything but just standing there like a regular guy. I'd like to see this applied to some of the fight scenes, too. Spidey's whole fighting style revolves around improvisation and use of his powers, so I'd love to see them used more and more in the fights.
