The Amazing Spider-Man Sally Field in early talks for the role of Aunt May

TO me, I think there was a reason why that we don't know. Maybe it's based on talent and Sheen/Field did a great job, but that's a given since they're legends.

And I think that's why they picked them: They are Hollywood vets and they are at the age where they're playing a lot of parental, warm characters. With Sheen, I think it takes it to a new emotional level, since we know who he is as an actor, and that might affect us somehow. Like tragedy can hit, no matter who you are.

This is just awesome casting. While I didn't necessarily have a big issue with either Rosemary or Cliff in the first film, they did turn me off with how damn old they were.

With the recent casting of Sheen and now Shields, they have a much better opportunity of portraying more relatable elder figures. They have an authoritative gravitas that the previous cast members lacked.

I don't care what anyone says, Rosemary was an amazing Aunt May, despite her age. Her little monologue in the backyard in Spider-Man 2 still gives me chills.

I don't mind Sheen, but I'm not a fan of this casting. Rosemary was near perfect IMHO. She perhaps could have been a bit more aggressive. I always viewed Aunt May as being caring, but had a good fire in her, and could be pretty strike with Peter when she wanted.

I like Sheen, but I'm alot more iffy on him as Uncle Ben.

That would be fantastic if they get her. She is an excellent actress and can really play well with Garfield to really deliver some outstanding emotional scenes.
