Season 7, Episode 5 "Eastwatch" Discussion Thread

Why is arya acting like a b**** towards lady sansa? Like why the writers shoving this rivalry between them. They have still only recently reunited i want them to support each other :(

I don't know. I didn't like how they had Sansa questioning every one of Jon's decisions, right in front of everyone.

There are lots of things this show does that I do not like. I hope they know what they are doing, but with them failing and wasting time on the Dorne storyline, it's in the back of my mind that they just might troll the viewers big time to stroke their own egos.

And then she blew up the Sept and heaven knows how many people in the vicinity of it.

Sorry, but trying to say that Dany is worse than Cersei just doesn't work.

Also "gleefully" is a REAL stretch.

No, it's not. All the women in this show seem to love killing and have no remorse for it, while the men will kill, but will be obviously torn by some of their kills. If you are blind to the fact that Dani definitely is enjoying and getting a kick out of burning people alive, you are just one of those fans who thinks Dani can do no wrong.

Each time I look at this, I just imagine how badly the discussion between Jon and Jorah on the way to the boat must have gone:

Jorah: "That's a beautiful sword, King Jon..."

Jon: "Oh, yes! It's...it's actually Longclaw..."

Jorah::huh: "My family's sword!?!? Why do you have it?"

Jon: "Your father gave it to me when I saved him from an undead assassin."

Jorah: "...Oh. That's...that's reasonable. How close were you two?"

Jon: "I was his personal steward for a time, almost like his hand picked successor. Unfortunately, when we were separated, there was a mutiny, and he was murdered."

Jorah::cmad: "Give me their names, so I may avenge my father!"

Jon: "I, uh, already did that. Wiped out every single mutineer. And my pet dire wolf ate the actual murderer. :word: Then, even though there was some dispute at the Wall, I actually did 'inherit' the Old Bear's job."

Jorah: "That's... That's... Thank you for avenging my father. But how did you become King of the North?"

Jon: "Long story."

Jorah: "Well, we're going to have plenty of time to-

Jon: "Lyanna Mormont acclaimed me king, and then everyone followed her example."

Jorah:  "Little Lyanna? She acclaimed you king? She's in charge of House Mormont?"

Jon: "Oh yes! She's very good at her job! Inspiring! Wise beyond her years! And actually kind of intimidating! She's actually one of the best leaders in the North. And luckily for me, she looks up to Davos like a grandfather, and to me like an honorary uncle!":woot:

Jorah: "...ah, very good. Ah, Kaleesi! :ilv: Your grace."

Dany: :yay:"Sir Jorah!" :sly: "King Jon!"

Jorah, deep down inside:

Here's a thought. She calls the dragons her children. She has no problems using her children to cause death and havoc among the people, and she commands Drogon to kill the Tarly's and she does it in glee. Cersei, as ruthless as she is, she at least tried to stop Joffery from beheading Ned Stark.
You must be joking right? Lawd.

Cersei and Dany are both into incest. That could bring them together.

Here's a thought. If Cersei had 3 big ass dragons... what would she do?

A ****ing lot more than Dany is. Cersei wants her men to kill people just for a negative comment about her... yes she made that order in season 5 or early 6... Also didn't do a thing when Joff ordered the murder of babies all over the kingdom... She's also torturing people in a cell right this second... who knows what happened to that nun lady...

Cersei would burn anyone who crossed her if she had dragons. Dany at least seems willing to offer a olive branch to those that would oppose her.

exactly. cersei doesn't give the 'join me' choice. She just tortures. kills. humiliates.

Dany should have a meet and greet with her only true kindred spirits on the show, Joffrey, Ramsay and Craster. They can publish The 2017 Westeros Torture and Slavery Annual.

Dany's actions seem harsh but the world of Game Of Thrones is a harsh one. We have seen multiple wars, betrayals and crimes committed. Even good deeds can have bad consequences.

Dany freed slaves and the Sons Of Harpy sprung up.

Dany is clearly trying to balance being reasonable with being a strong leader. If people smell weakness in leaders in Westeros they usually don't last long.

What the **** show are you watching?

I love how Tormund gave Jorah crap for being a Mormont while he hasn't said a damn thing to Lyanna and she's just as much a Mormont as he is. Makes me think Tormund's afraid of her. :o

Same. Maybe she is his daughter after all.

It is Dany who is trying to get a hiatus on the war so they can fight the White Walkers. So there is a pretty big difference between Dany and Cersei.

Which I still can't wrap my mind around. Why the sudden belief in Jon's story? I get you believe it after the caves. But why all of the sudden just pull out and decide all energy should be directed north?

They're cousins.

I think he's referencing the book theory that Tormund "Husband of Bears" Giantsbane may have snuck across the wall and... known Maege "We live on Bear Island and have a Bear sigil" Mormont or one of her daughters, since the books make a point that at least two generations of Mormont women have raised a small sleuth of daughters without naming the father.

It's also just possible that Tormund doesn't call out Lyanna because he knows better.

I would think her Drogan's interaction with Jon caused a pretty big leap in faith in him. You could see it on her face. They've been getting to know each other in general but that was a big one.

Oh knock it off, I don't appreciate being accused of being dumb or having an agenda. And it doesn't help your argument, it just makes you look arrogant and condescending.

No she's not perfect. But we've been given no evidence that she enjoys burning people. She does it in specific circumstances for specific reasons. And here, she did it very matter of factly for a tactical reason. Not hint of "glee" in her voice whatsoever.

She's not Ramsay, or Euron, or Cersei, etc. Sorry, but that's just the way that it is, whether you choose to accept it or not.

^^
Exactly. If she enjoyed burning people alive she would have done it with the captured soldiers and not offered a choice at all.
