Comics Sensational Spider-Man 28 preview

Hmmm ... I'm noticing that no one seems to have made a thread about Sensational SM # 27 and the end of the "Feral" storyline. Does that mean that most of us were underwhelmed by the end of that storyline?

It was a pretty good story idea overall, but seeing Black Cat take down the Lizard - again  , seeing Stegron start crying at the prospect of loosing his meteorite, and seeing Spidey whip out those stupid stingers and go all Wolverine kind of soured it for me. Since when was Stegron able to be reverted back to a human as shown in that flashback? What about Billy now having the Lizard serum in his system? Will Black Cat quit making a pest of herself around Spidey now that she's hooked up with Puma, or will some other writer simply forget it ever happened?

"Feral" was a nice action-packed diversion from the weirdness going on in the other Spidey titles, but it remains a dim light in an otherwise dark sky of disappointing Spidey storylines. Final score: 7/10.
Black Cat is an enhanced human you know. Also Stegron has been reverted a few times in his run ins with Pete. Annnd Billy got that when Curt gave him a blood transfusion I believe. YEAAAAAARS ago in an Annual I think.

I liked it... when BC took down the Lizard yet again, I smirked and thought of you. :D :(

My one complaint was when Spidey whupped out his "stingers" at the end, they were coming out "Wolverine style", and not through his wrists like it was originally shown... and they also had a Wolverine style curve to them..

But it was a nice action-packed tale... I've always like Stegron.

Actually, in #25 you will see that Conners injects it into his son somewhere near the beginning of the storyline. He also says "the Rock" told him to do it, which also makes me assume it was around the beginning of the story.

Well, the past several Spidey arcs haven't really bothered to look at continuity. It's kinda one of those sad things you regret but expect to happen.

As for the art of #28, I'm not too fond of the cover, the art just looks...off to me, but the art for the pages looks pretty good, especially the enraged Doc Ock.

im actually enraged that they cud get something so simple so wrong

No kidding.... somebody's editor was asleep at the wheel for that one.

You know, I don't think that those were his 'stingers,' I think that they came out of his all empowering 'Iron Spidey,' suit

The current Marvel editorial have a great idea of 'if you ignore it, lets pretend it didn't happen.' It'a happened with Sarah and Gabe of Sins Past, Zeke's ending, Tracer, Morluns return, weird Spider Woman thing. Only PAD has touched on Other continuity.

The stingers and Spidey's amped up strength have been very much ignored AND played down, (aside from one, maybe 2 mentions from PAD.)

The reasons I don't think that they're the stingers are;

1st off, the stingers come in random panic, he hasn't controlled them yet

2nd, they've only looked like bone B4, there's no way in hell that he can have metal stingers, and at the end of this story they clearly had a metal look.

3rd, We just saw Spidey turn his suit into molding metal alloy, (a la Terminator 2,) to cover the rock, and stop the mayhem. Surely Spidey could do the exact same thing to have blades Wolvie style, no?

To me, they were not the stingers, for all the above reasons. And I won't argue about this with anyone, as we all know it'll be a bit of a stupid conversation lol

You know... I can accept that. :)

End of conversation. :D

Lol, so did I!!!

Man, punked by the Black Cat TWICE in one story arc! How embarassing!

Conners must be a lover, 'cuz he sure aint a fighter.

(kidding, Liz)

Seriously; i absolutely loved this arc. Cant wait to see Doc Ock and the Chameleon (and friends) in upcoming issues.

Better drawn THAT way than drawn like lumpy pieces of wood. May-be if they were shorter...

If they came from the suit, though, that would mean it wasn't an accident, and that Spidey "willed" them to come out, which irritates me. Spidey DOES NOT kill, maim, or mutilate, which could easily be done with those. So I'm not okay with it. But I'll have to live with it as I've had to live with everything else Marvel has thrown our way.

Enhanced by what, exactly? I know she used to be ranked as "athletic human" stength, so is she wearing some kind of strength-enhancing bodysuit that bumped her up a level or two? Even if that's the case, an "enhanced strength" character is still only about one-tenth as strong as the Lizard, who can lift 12 tons.
Also Stegron has been reverted a few times in his run ins with Pete.
The only other time I'm aware that Stegron was human again was at the beginning of the Lethal Foes of Spider-Man mini from 1993. He was a homeless catatonic wandering Central Park until he got blasted by some ray gun that dinosaur-ized him again. This didn't really make sense either, since in Marvel Team-Up vol 1 #20 (part 2 of Stegron's origin story), Curt Connors states very plainly that Stegron's mutation is irreversible. Sloppy research by the writers on both counts.

Annnd Billy got that when Curt gave him a blood transfusion I believe. YEAAAAAARS ago in an Annual I think.
As was already pointed out, Curt injected Billy for the first time with the Lizard formula as part of this "Feral" story because the meteorite "told him to." You were probably thinking of ASM # 365 where Lizzy (with the mind of Curt Connors) busts into Billy's birthday party and takes a blood sample so he can make a new antidote and turn back into a human.

So to review:

Black Cat's smackdown on the Lizard - still just an illogical plot device not based on any kind of continuity with her past abilities.

Stegron's reverting back to human - still unexplained as to how and why this happened (although not without precedent).

Billy being injected with the Lizard formula - still a big unaddressed issue glossed over at the end of "Feral". Is Billy now in danger of transforming if he's under stress from here on out? Since Curt has now infected his beloved son with the same "curse" that he himself can't get rid of, is Curt even more depressed and unstable than before?

Sloppy writing, research and editing remains the bane of Spidey stories these days.

You're just pissed at Lizzy's smackdown by the Cat. :D :D :(

I don't understand why current writers like to make BC more powerful than she really is. The only "powers" I ever recall her having were the "bad luck" powers she received by the Kingpin years ago.

But a "feral" Lizard should rip her to shreds... really. :(

Well, the real answer to why that happened was in the Marvel Spotlight interview with "Feral" writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa from a couple months ago. Aguirre-Sacasa said that Black Cat was one of his personal favorite supporting characters from the Spidey books. Thus, I think we saw some serious pro-BC bias in this story.

But again, I think the big focus on Felicia these days is still left over from Kevin Smith's Evil that Men Do mini. It doesn't make BC any less of a poor-man's Catwoman, but if she sells books its good enough for Marvel. :(

I'm going to get a writing gig with Marvel just so I can write a story where the Lizard beats up Venom and Carnage at the same time. Apparently if you've got enough name recognition you can do whatever.

I believe Puma told Cat that Lizard and Vermin were tired out from battling one another. Which was why it was so easy to take them both down.

I liked this story, it wasn't anything earth shattering but just a good straight forward Spider-Man story. Though it was good to see a writer utilizing the Iron Spidey suit for once. I think this is really the only writer I've seen use the suits many talents in one story arc.

.

True....but Liz did get b%$^& slapped in their first battle of the arc which in my opinion was silly enough, but having BC no sell a vicious tail swipe that should have sent her spleen through the top of her head was ridiculous......

...be that as it may...it was a good story

I didn't know that Lizard's vicious tail swipes would cause the spleen to be shot to the head...but I'll take your word for it. :)

it hasnt really been around long enough. its been used every time a story has had a battle i think..

I thought Ock knew Peter was Spiderman? Didnt he save him from a virus (or try to at least), as he didn't want him to die like that? It was about the same time Daredevil "killed" off Matt Murdoch.

Yes, he unmasked him and cured him from the virus, because he wanted the privelege of killing Spidey himself. But shortly after that he was killed by Kaine.

When he was resurrected, his memories were only up to the time just before when he unmasked Spider-Man. Hence he no longer knows Spidey's identity.

A little too convenient if you ask me. :o

Well that's Marvel for you. Always taking the shameful and easy way out. When the cheap shock value has worn off, they find a quick and easy cheap fix to the mess they made.

In this case, Ock not knowing Spidey's identity when he returned, so they could return their relationship to the way it always was, because they had foolishly thought fans would not mind Ock being dead. WRONG!!! They had to bring him back post haste.

A female Octopus is no substitute for Octavius.
