Do you want to see the Joker meet his demise in TDK? One of the most interesting recurring themes in the Batman mythos seems to be the Joker's glee in Batman's reluctance to rid Gotham of the Joker's murderous menace.
If the Joker survives TDK, this leaves the possibility of Two-Face attempting to hunt him down in the next film. But this would almost push Batman to the margins of the plot...
A major disappointment to me was the Joker's death at the end of Burton's Batman. But life incarceration somehow doesn't seem to dramatically satisfy either.
So...
The Joker: To be or not to be?

Nevah!

the Joker needs to live, especially if this franchise is going to do the Bond thing eventually. Joker is the polar opposite of Batman, the chaos Batman hates so much...

there is just too many great story possibilities out there to just off him now...

Yeah, I think they should kill Batman's archenemy and mortal foe. Forget about the over 60 years of history they have and that the Joker is a character who is greatly responsible for the success of Batman in the comics. Lets forgot also about some of the great movie ideas they could be adapted from elements of past classic Joker/Batman stories.

Maybe they should also kill Two face as well. Killing these characters off will help to bring Batman's war on crime to an eventually end and finally give Batman the peace that us fanboys so deperately want for the character.

I can't give a yes/no answer to that because it depends. If killing him off can be accomplished as a powerful ending to a compelling storyline, then by all means they should kill him off. But if keeping him alive makes for better storylines down the road, then they should let him live.

The important thing is to bow out a character at the right time rather than keep him/her beyond their peak only to have them fall into mediocrity.

No.

One of the biggest mistake of the Tim Burton movies was Killing off the villians. There is so many more storylins you can get out of these characters that I never understood why the director would even think to bump them off.

Of course you have to be careful not to oversexpose them in sequel after sequel (see Lex Luthor in the Superman movies) .

No, he shouldn't die.

I don't understand why filmmakers like to kill off major villains in their movies that don't die in the comics.

Like the Spider-Man films. I can understand Green Goblin, becuase he's died and been ressurrected in the comics. But why kill Doc Ock? Becuase he had to redeem himself? He could have done that by saving the city and just getting away to live a life of shame.

Joker shouldn't die. But Batman should beat the ever-loving **** out of him as often as possible whenever Joker tries to pull something, and then lock Joker's ass up in Arkham.

Yes, agree with you about Doc Ock. There were a lot of much more interesting ways to resolve his character arc. But I think that particular franchise has gone the way of Star Wars, i.e. how many different action figures can we sell...

Joker will be in Batman 3 so we know he ain't gonna die in TDK.

I'll echo Jaberwock's NEVAH! One of the coolest things about Batman and Joker is that Joker just keeps coming back and Bats has to face the idea of finally killing him over and over.

Yea, I was thinking that. Looks like they've moved the timeline forward, makes more sense as a cliffhanger in TDK.

For once, I have actually laughed out loud.

No, but you should' just for mentioning this. :woot:

J/K, But really, no to Joker demise in any future Bat film.

I don't really care, they're not gonna make more than three movies and there's plenty of other great characters to use. I just want the best Joker out there!

I would like it if Joker faked his death. Like, big showdown, something blows up, Batman thinks Joker died.... but the last frame of the movie is Joker laughing in the distance, behind the shadows or something.... and nobody but the audience knows that he's still alive. Everyone in Gotham (including Batman) thinks he's dead.

Or the final shot is a Joker card left in the batcave...

dear god no. why on earth would you want the Joker to know where the cave is?

Well... because it would turn everything on its head, which is what the Joker is all about.
Batman arrives back at the manor, drained and spent, thinking that the Joker is either dead or safely under lock and key at Arkham.
But then to discover that he might actually be inside Wayne Manor...
What a way to start the third film. In my humble opinion :oldrazz:

while that is certainly an interesting idea, i would hate to see something like that happen so soon in batman's career...

maybe if they were to do a dark knight returns/batman beyond type movie down the road that would work...
