Silent Hill COULD have been the first great game movie...

Because the demon took over Sharon's body. Since the demon still exists, the dimension doesn't change.

And Spider-X, Silent Hill 2 has little to no ties whatsoever to the first game. Where did you hear this?

son of a...i thought that's how it worked out...DAMMIT!

i thought that the guy in Silent Hill 2 was Rose's husband...will you please forgive my foolishness and explain what Silent Hill has to do with it's sequel...if any?

No big deal, my friend.:) It has almost nothing to do with the first game, other than the fact that it takes place in Silent Hill, but even then, it's an entirely different district of the quiet resort town.

Have you played any of the games?

nope...i'd like to, but never got around to it other than renting Silent Hill 2 and only being able to get 5 minutes into it when the disc would f#ck up because it was scratched to hell...so i had to return it.

how does Silent hill 2 turn out in the end, and what's the deal with the main character and Pyramid Head's connection...and how do you think they will translated it into a movie sequel?

I really enjoyed this movie, even the convoluted ending, it was drenched with atmosphere and had some good frights, though the whole nurse chorus line dance thing was a bit much :D

i think silent hill is still the best videogame movie to date (although mortal kombat does hold a place my heart) but yeah, that isn't saying much.

it could have been alot better, but it wasn't bad. the only thing that really pissed me off was the very end. it was just like... wtf?

So the fanatics were right about the demon thing, only they used the wrong method... I still don´t get why they´re still in the Silent Hill world.

I have to agree with some of the points mentioned. If they were really all dead, then why weren't their bodies found with the car and motorcycle?

when they talk about the mine fire, and how alot of people died in it, the sheriff mentions to the father that alot of the bodies were never found. While Silent Hill is a different dimension, you only get sucked in if you're dead, and it takes all of you. This is satan we're talking about here, I'm sure if for some reason he wanted the bodies and car to not be found, he could just pull them right over the border to Silent Hill with their souls.

Now that makes sense, so the ending IS kind of a Sixth Sense thing. But I don´t get what is the demon´s interest to get into Sharon´s body - as the ending suggests - if it can´t use her to get out of the SH dimension and into the real world.

Silent Hill is one of my favorite films... the ending played like they were trying to wrap everything up and fill a gore quota but I still love the film.

Silent Hill is one of the better films based on a video game.

this was my hw essay:D

Silent Hill is based on a video game, one of which I've played, briefly. So I know what I'm in store for, but still didn't expect it. Keeping it straight to the Video game, Christophe Gans did a hell of a job and created a very good horror-film. Even if you didn’t play the game and don’t already know the story, you will be sure to have fun. The story is basically about a mother called Rose who’s sleep walking daughter (Sharon) suffers from nightmarish delusions about a town called Silent Hill. Rose, without her husbands consent, goes into Silent Hill with her daughter in order to find answers. Eventually Rose loses her daughter and wakes up to a world of mist and ash along side a cop (Sybil), who enter a world that mysteriously keeps shifting to hell and back.

First of all, Radha Mitchel gave a pretty good performance, despite a bit of cheesy dialog at times. She did well in making her character become more and more vulnerable throughout the entire movie, until the point where she just breaks down. Sybil was more of the heroic character that helps Rose in the movie, but often her lines became it bit cheesy (like the video game dialog). The rest of the cast is good but not Oscar worthy.

The focus is on the town and the events surrounding it, not personalities and interaction. There are two stories going on, one with Rose trying to find her daughter and unmask the mysteries of Silent Hill, and the other of Roses husband (Christopher) trying to find her. Rose is in a different dimension but in the same town as her husband. The director does an incredible job at showing all three dimensions in the movie. Every so often (in Roses dimension) the entire town “shifts” into a hell-like world with some of the most frightening images ever put on screen. Roses other world is very bright white with snow like ashes falling from the sky, and both dimensions have terrifying demons. However, the movies R rating shows mostly in the hell dimension. The SFX are so incredibly real looking, you definitely feel like you are part of this hell. The lead demon called “Pyramid Head” allows for some incredibly gory scenes, including one shot where he strips naked a woman and rip off the skin off her body and throws it at Rose.

The problem of this movie is that at one point, a scene plays with narration that explains a lot of the back story, history, and important facts all into one short fast paced scene. This striped you of all the mystery in about 5min, instead of being developed over time. Then after wards you just knew what was going to happen and were just sitting down waiting for it to happen. Also, many viewers will be completely lost at the ending scene. The audience was just not given enough info to infer any kind of rational ending conclusion. Though the mystery of Silent Hill was finalized, the story of what happened to Rose afterwards left you in the dust.

In conclusion, this movie was 100% eye candy and visual story. Its cinematography was completely accurate to the game which is beyond anything a horror movie has ever seen. The director did an amazing job at mixing its visuals with intense drama scenes that make you sympathize for the main character. This movie is best understood after several viewings, in order to soak in a lot of important details that might help you to understand the incredibly vague ending. This movie is definitely a must see horror movie that brings hope back into the dying genre.

This was the best video game movie adaptations imo. Albeit it had it's flaws. It stayed true to the source material for the most part. I usually found that those who weren't familar with the game were the ones that found themselves confused by the plot.

Yeah, it appears that the game actually has a pretty big background history that is kind of important to understand the plot.

if this is true....then why didn't the father (sean bean) find the car accident in plan sight once he reached silent hill where all the cops were?

i don't think she's dead...and i don't have an explanation for the ending either...except that mabye the demon, for whatever reason, is keeping them there.
I would say that the ending is up to interpretation. I think the games had something open-ended like that too. Either idea can be right.

So is a sequel in the works?

And does anyone have a plot of all the games?

What do you mean? Plot synopsis', or plot analysis'?

regardless of any plot failings, the cinematopgraphy kept my eyes glued to the screen the whole time :)

Ah, not too hard. All the games, eh? Okay...

Silent Hill:In Silent Hill, you assume the role of widower Harry Mason, who is trying to get away from the pain of his wife's loss by taking his daughter on a road trip. After a car accident on the outskirts of the resort town of Silent Hill, you regain consciousness to find that your daughter, who was previously asleep in the backseat, has left--or has been taken--from the scene. To find her, you must go into town and unlock the secrets that linger seven years after a tragic fire scarred the town.

Silent Hill 2:James Sunderland's life is shattered when his young wife Mary suffers a tragic death. Three years later, a mysterious letter arrives from Mary, beckoning him to return to their sanctuary of memories, the dark realm of Silent Hill. Now James must go back to that special place to uncover the truth, unaware that the answers he seeks require the ultimate sacrifice.

Silent Hill 3: You play as Heather Morris, a teenaged girl who wakes up from a horrific nightmare of blood and death, only to find herself in the sprawling mall culture. Moments later, she calls her father, making positive that everything is okay, and that she'll be heading for home soon. Then, things get strange. A detective by the name of Douglas tails Heather, constantly trying to talk with her before she ducks into a bathroom, and ventures out the window. But, what she finds soon thereafter will be worse than any nightmare imaginable.

Silent Hill 4: The Room: Henry is your regular guy with regular problems. He lives in a generally nice apartement, and despite a possibly insane supor, things are going okay. That is, until one morning when he wakes up to find his door coated in strong, unbreakable chains, and a gaping hole in his bathroom wall. He calls for help, but...no one will listen. Curiosity becomes too much for our friend, and he crawls into that hole, and at the other end are things better left unseen.

Thanks! Silent Hill 3 sounds awsome. Again thanks!

Ive own the first and played through some of the secont.

There were some major open ended things and questions at the end and it seems like it was done for a sequel. I actually love the ending because look at all of this conversation and theories it is creating among people. I love movies like that.

I've seen it about 5 times now...I've been picking it apart like crazy, the first two viewings in the theatre were awesome...and now on dvd with other friends...I'm like trying to defend it after the movie is over, and I realize there are some big plot holes, and its very confusing...and there were a few unnecessary scenes of violence...barbwire razors between the legs...yeaaaah...yuk. I don't mind horror flix at all, or over the top violence...but that moment was just uncalled for...by the 5th time...I was thinking>"Ok that was so not needed"....not just cuz it was gross, but just because I find little moments like that to be a waste.

Saw this last night, really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the dream like quality of it and the Creepshow piano scales. I really wanted to see it because of Radha and her performance in Melinda and Melinda. All the perofrmances were great, rock on Christophe.

According to some sources the original film that Christophe created was about 3 hours. I'd love to see the rest of the footage he has in a DVD directors cut.
