Silent Hill COULD have been the first great game movie...

A Silent Hill Director's Cut would really be awesome and might clear up a lot of the confusing issues.

I'm really happy I found this thread because I was going to start up one when I saw the rottentomatoes 20% rating.

I rented this film the other night not expecting much, the only reason I picked it up was because I enjoyed Radha's perforance in "Man on Fire". But I really enjoyed this film mainly because it looks amazing on screen and each actor did a great job. Sure there were plot holes (there is in every film) but they didn't really bother me. I would highly recommend people to give this film a rent(even just for the eye candy...

Now that makes sense, so the ending IS kind of a Sixth Sense thing. But I don´t get what is the demon´s interest to get into Sharon´s body - as the ending suggests - if it can´t use her to get out of the SH dimension and into the real world.

The demon doesn't want to leave the alternate Silent Hill. That reality is where it has power, where it can bend things to suit its needs and can torment the people trapped there. What the demon needs is a physical anchor to help support that reality (Alessa), she can't make it happen on her own, its built around the "host's" subconscience. What happened at the end was that with Alessa's business concluded she passed on (which is why she suddenly vanishes along with all the hellish horrors and dark Silent Hill in general).

Now this normally would have ended the alternate Silent Hill reality all together, but the Demon has no intention of losing her place of power so instead she jumps over to Sharon to keep Silent Hill from falling apart. Since, Sharon hasn't endured Alessa's suffering, the town becomes nothing more than a foggy deserted location without any monsters.

From here, imo Silent Hill becomes sort of what it is in the later games, a place that becomes a personal hell for anyone that has the misfortune to become trapped inside the town (i.e. James from Silent Hill 2).

Rose and Sharon didn't die, they're in an alternate dimension that is much like limbo

Can anyone tell me if the dvd has good extras?

That's why I never go by what's on Rottentomatoes.

Critics really suck. More and more, I'm finding I trust the words of critics less and less. Just look at the rottentomatoe reviews of Dead Man's Shoes. Idiotic reviews saying things like "it should have had subtitles", bla bla bla.

Well, I haven't gotten into the SILENT HILL games.....but wasn't the movie pretty faithful to the mythos?

I'm told that the movie is pretty much alot like the first game. Any truth to that?

Aside from minor stuff, such as changing a couple characters here and there, the movie is faithful to the spirit of the games.

When I beat Silent Hill, I said "Damn, that game was ****ed up"

When I left the theatre after the Silent Hill movie ended, I said "Damn, that movie was ****ed up"

Sometimes a mind**** is a good thing

Yeah. I loved the film. I thought it was good. It was kinda sad too......but yeah, ****ed up.

And really, isn't part of the whole SILENT HILL franchise the question of "is it reality?" ya know.....is it a dream world, or is it like purgatory or some hole in the universe. Leaves you questioning and stuff.

I totally want to get into the Silent Hill games for sure, now.

btw, THE BEHIND THE SCENES stuff was nice. Interesting stuff on the dvd.

The first half blew me away.

I have yet to see the Ring so the last half was all new and "omg" to me.

The games are just like that. That's whats so wonderful about the games. It's very comendable that Gans and co tried to capture the spirit of the games, but the games are still better.

It's hard to describe to someone that isn't a fan of the games. But they're like... poetry. My favourite is the second game. It's a tragic, slow story with much heartache. Everything that is going on around the character is representative of what's going on in their mind. The psyche is a complicated thing, and Silent Hill explores every layer. The music is great. Very haunting and beautiful at times.

One problem I have with the movie is that it explains too much. It shows what Silent Hill looks like in the real world. They really shouldn't have done that. Many times I had thought to myself playing the games "so... is the town still populated with people unaware of these alternate realities or what?".

I totally want to get into the Silent Hill games for sure, now.

You definately should. I can't emphasise this enough. For everyone here that likes or loves the movie, you WILL love the games. All the good emotions you got from the movie, you will get from the games 10 fold. Especially Silent Hill 2.

When the script was first turned in the studio sent it back demanding that male characters be inserted.

Definitely the best one in the series.

As someone who has never played the game or for that matter has never played a game in his life , i really did enjoy Silent Hill.

The build up was great , with the groovy atmosphere , the weird messed up look of the creatures with the visual appearance of PYRAMID HEAD being the best thing of the movie. I wish there was more of him .

ANd yeah , the third wasn't a bit of a letdown especially after the first 2/3rds of the movie.
The ending was still a bit vague but i can see it as some form of purgatory.

I'd highly recommend people to see this movie .
8.5/10

I thought Bean was great in it. I really dug his performance.

Technically....shouldn't he have been the starring character?
