JJ Abrams plays a part in it.

And the inevitable Greg Grunberg cameo. :cwink:

It was incredibly well done, it had plenty for fans of the old Star Trek, and plenty for people who didn't know Star Trek at all. And they set it up in a way where future movies don't have to be locked what happened in the previous Star Trek movies, so there's no real canon that they have to stick to, which I thought was a brilliant idea.

I haven't watched anything Star Trek-related in years, I had forgotten how much I used to enjoy it.

It has more of a geek stigma than comics I reckon. Well, with all the people I know anyway.

the comic stigma went away once we got good adaptions of the work like x men/x2/spiderman/sm2/etc.

Yea I mention TDK or something to one of my mates (who know nothing about comics and don't really care for them) and they are like "Yea, sick film." or "Yea Batman is da maaaan!" But if I were to mention Star Trek they'd be like "pffft".

Hmm yea maybe in the US. But there is ZERO interest in it over here. I think I've only seen a couple TV spots, no interviews with cast members or any programs talking about it or nothing.

And none of the people I know have any interest in it. I wanna go and see it, but not on my own.

Ya'll have sci-fi coming out the yin yang over there anyway, though.

Yea well, I don't really like his work if I'm honest. I got bored of Lost about halfway through the first season. The characters just all seemed like pricks, I didn't really care if they all died on that island. But I suppose I missed out on much of their development.

And Cloverfield? Cool concept and had some truly brilliant scenes. But it started to do my head in after a while.

He only produced them.....

He directed MI3, and Star Trek.

Ah well if Ace's friends say so... then naturally, Star Trek will flunk big time. :whatever:

People who think ST will suck, havent seen the trailer. And if they have...then they suck.

Call me a geek/nerd for liking really good films:up:

What country do you live in?

Yea, nice way to twist my words.

I didn't say it will flunk. I just said I don't think it will be a massive earner like some people are thinking.

There's loads of interest in the UK for Star Trek at the moment. It's in all the papers, Simon Pegg was on Jonathan Ross the other week, then on Radio 1, they're playing all the Star Trek movies in HD on Sky Movies and they just had a 'Bring Back Star Trek' programme on channel 4. There's adverts on all the time for the new movie.

So let me get this straight, Star Trek has a geek stigma on it, but comics don't?

:)

Seriously though, Star Trek will blow Wolverine out of the water. Stigma or no stigma.
It did. :( :p

Iron Man, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Watchmen....

I've seen literally about 2 or 3 tv spots.

And I didn't know Pegg was on Jonathan Ross! I gotta see that, those guys would be hilarious.

The movie was made for everyone. Trek hater, Trek fan, Woman, Children, Males...everyone can see this movie and enjoy it. Its fun, action packed, exciting, tragic, funny, and emotional.

Well yea, I think it looks really good and I will go and see it. But I'm just saying that I think as soon as you mention "Star Trek" to a lot of people, it instantly turns them off. Whether the film is good or not is irrelevant.

Just like when someone mentions Fox to me it instantly turns me off:D I really loathed Star Trek but the movie was A+

When we get another X-Men movie and Star Trek movie in 3 years, well lets just say Fox is going to have to work extremely hard.

The exact same thing happened with James Bond for a while and, god forbid, comic movies.

The fact is there is no line drawn between geekiness. We are all geeks whether its sci-fi or comic. Geeks United. I should register that web address! :woot:

I did just now. You can have it for 5 grand.

Star Trek seems to be having its biggest overseas opening in the entire history of the franchise...therefore, Ace has no idea what he is talking about or is blinded by Wolverine too much to be fair.

So...how about those second weekend numbers for Wolverine??? Holding up well with all that positive word of mouth???

^It looks like Wolverine is going to drop at least 70% this weekend. :funny:

Im shocked! But its so good with excellent characterization and no plot holes!!!

Keep dropping Logan (though Im not sure from the film how you got that name...). Your film deserves an 80% drop.
