Snow White and the Huntsman

A gorgeous looking movie, with some visuals that surprised me. The story was decent but the real star of this movie was really Charlize Theron's performance as the Queen. It's a damn shame she wasn't used more especially when the middle of the film where it started to become really slow. Chris Hemsworth was pretty good as well and really shocks me was how...decent? Kristen Stewart was in this.
8/10

I thought this was a pretty good movie. I didn't like Charlize as much as I thought I would. I would have preferred a more subdued performance. The visuals and cg are just fantastic. I thought The Avengers had the Oscar in the bag for visuals but this and Prometheus are certainly giving it a serious run for its money. Story wasn't the best but I liked the different take on the tale. I thought Hemsworth was pretty good and surprisingly I didn't mind Stewart at all. Loved the 8 dwarves though I found them hard to understand at times. The Prince was a bad ass and I like how they play around with the classic story a bit. Id say this was a pretty solid movie and a 8/10

Kristen Stewart's ears really stick out when she has hair tied back.
Also the mirror needs to go to an optician if it thinks Kristen Stewart is fairer than Charlize Theron.

Glad you like Thezon's performance Kane

I think the most interesting love triangles is when both seem like a good choice or the one who clearly is going to lose (let's say The Phantom or Quisomoto) is tragically sympathetic to the audience or reader. The kind where there is something bittersweet about it. Or everyone loses like GWTW for example. Nobody keeps Scarlett in that.

Those are always good too. I haven't read The Hunger Games but I think the love triangle might go that route.

I don't know if this has been brought up in the thread but what do you guys think of the dwarf protests?

On the one hand the filmmakers have the right to cast who they like in whatever roles on the other hand. These fantasy roles are some of the only roles dwarf actors can get and it is dealing with their lively hoods.

I don't have any personal feelings towards the casting choice in SWATH. I don't see it as a trend either. However it doesn't surprise me these actors might feel threatened.

However , I think the issues go much further than that. There's limited roles for dwarves and it's either playing a medieval character or subject of ridicule.

^To be fair its not as if the director picked crap actors for the dwarves, they were all superb actors, I think he has every right to pick the actors he wants for the role.

Yeah, he did, but it's still kind of funny. Like something you'd see in a comedy. We got dwarf actors but we're gonna CG actual actors instead. :p

Most dwarf actors no offense to them are just not that good. Every actor in this movie cast as a dwarf is fantastic. If you didnt know who they were, you would have thought they were actual dwarves, the cg on them was flawless.

I was reading an article online that was interviewing one of the dwarfs from miror miror and he actually said he didn't have a problem with an ian mcshane playing a dwarf if only dwarfs likewise would also be offered roles playing doctors and lawyers as well.

Peter dinklage is a great example of a dwarf actor being given serious material and thriving. Yes a lot of dwarf actors are not his level but that's due to most of them being given really un-challenging roles.

Think of a world without dwarf actors no warick davis no verne troyer what kind of world is that?

Honestly, itd be the exact same world for me

I had an awkward moment watching this movie. I started laughing when I heard the Wilhelm scream and no one else did. Did anyone else hear it?

I thought it was alright. Visually, it looked good and I thought the direction was good. Hemsworth was good and Kristen Stewart was alright I guess, except her big speech at the end was pretty poor... I thought Kiera Knightley did a more effective job of "strong female rallying the troops" in At Worlds End. Also I didn't like the Bob Hoskins dwarf character, the way he was blind and kept spouting all these lines about "it's her destiny" and "she's the one".. it just felt too much like the writers had no other idea how to do it and were forcing the idea of Snow White being the one to kill the queen on the audience.

Any way, I thought the director did good and has a good style and I'd like to see him do more.. perhaps even doing something for Marvel. There were a couple times in the film I actually thought, should it ever be needed, he at least has a good visual style to take over Avengers from Whedon.

I wonder what the status of the sequel currently is as the movie has dropped quite a bit in box office?

Either way, I am curious to see what Sanders does next, as if he can hone a few things like his story-telling, he could be a director to look out for. It obvious watching the movie that Ridley Scott was an influence.

actually they are
Deadline reveals that a Snow White and the Huntsman sequel has been fast tracked at Universal following the release of the first film last week. In April, it was revealed that David Koepp(Spiderman,Jurassic Park,Mission Impossible) was hard at work on writing the script for a possible follow-up, but the studio are now in talks to bring back director Rupert Sanders and intent on making it a reality. While he is said to be "interested" in returning to helm the sequel, he has no contractual obligation to return (unlike the actors who all have options for two additional installments in the franchise). Snow White and the Huntsman has so far made $187 million worldwide.

Saw this 2 weeks ago and I don't think I've posted a review. I must've gone to a showing where there were tons of Twilight fans because they clapped and cheered after the movie. :funny:

I was anticipating the movie a lot (mostly because of Charlize and Chris) and I ended up liking it just fine but I had several issues with it. It wasn't as bad as some of the journalists made it out to be (Sneider of Variety made it seem like it was the worst movie of the year) but it wasn't as good as I expected it to be. I thought it was too long and it dragged at some parts. Also, I had problems with the main cast. Charlize was fun as the queen was her OTP-ness got old really fast. Chris was hard to understand at some parts (I blame his accent). Kristen was just bad particularly at the latter half. I got 2nd hand embarrassment for her when she was doing her speech and rallying the troops. It was just bad.

The best things for me were the visuals and the costumes.

I had trouble understanding the dwarves at times

I just don't get how they can make a sequel to this. Doesn't seem like there's many places for them to go.

They're not drastically bigger than your normal second weekend summer movie

I agree. I can maybe see the Huntsman spins off to his own movie, where he rescues other fairy tale princesses, but that's about it. I don't think Snow White got any more stories to tell once she is crowned queen.

Well there was this idea floating around where Snow White gets corrupted by her power and she turns evil or something. Which sounds like a bad idea.

Doesn't that kind of go against the whole Snow White thing?

Basically, thats why it sounds like a terrible idea.

I really don't think this movie needs a sequel.

as of now Snow White And The Huntsman box office so far

Worldwide: $247,202,000
