I like the idea of the huntsman being the prince in disguise and that is the reason that he does not kill Snow White. It may not work because the huntsman is typically the father, but that could always be passed on as a lie or a secret.

So I've recently been watching Rupert Sanders' commercial work via his official website, and it's pretty brilliant. I'm VERY interested in seeing how his first feature goes. Between that, Theron and Hemsworth, I'm officially looking forward to this. Just as much as Tarsem's project. I feel like they could both be great and different enough to be worthwhile.

It took awhile for Universal to secure an actor for the role as the huntsman. It looks a bit embarrassing to me when actors keep passing the role. I wonder if that mean something? Probably not, but I don't get a good feeling when I think about it.

Universal Moves Up 'Snow White and the Huntsman' To June 1

BREAKING:Since neither Universal Pictures nor Relativity Media are blinking about going ahead with rival Snow White films, it seemed inevitable that Universal would not be content for its film to come out six months later. So the studio has just swapped release dates of Judd Apatow's next untitled film (which was supposed to come out June 1), and has given that June 1, 2012 date to Snow White and the Huntsman. At present, Relativity Media's film, The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, is dated for June 29, 2012 with shooting to begin in August. We'll have to see whether Ryan Kavanaugh's film division reconsiders. That Tarsem Singh-directed film stars Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, Armie Hammer and Nathan Lane.

Being first doesn't really mean that the movie will make the most money at the box office. I mean, A Bug's Life was released after Antz and the former film made more money at the box office. Same thing with Armageddon and similarly-premised film Deep Impact.

So it should be interesting to see how Relativity Media response to this.

Ian McShane to Play a Dwarf in Snow White and the Huntsman

Ian McShane has signed to play one of the dwarfs in Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman, according to Heat Vision.

McShane will play Caesar, the leader of the dwarfs. He has joined Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin and Chris Hemsworth in the Rupert Sanders-directed film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on June 1, 2012.

The movie is a new take on the classic fairy tale which features an expanded role for the Huntsman. In the fairy tale, he is ordered to take Snow White into the woods and kill her, but instead lets her go. In the new take, the Huntsman acts more as a mentor, teaching Snow White to fight and survive.

Shooting on the project is scheduled to start in August.

Claflin and McShane can currently be seen in theaters together in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

I think Universal should move Snow White back to December 21st. A summer date just doesn't feel right, and plus it's on the heels of Relativity's version coming out March 26th.

And it gives more time for Universal to refine its marketing campaign and tweak the movie more in postproduction.

He had a bigger more expanded role in the tale than Disney's version, as the Huntsman, the Woodsman is from Red Riding Hood.

My guess is they're altering the tale like they do with all adaptations and to be fair, the Huntsman had a bigger role than the Prince at the end.

As for what else the Huntsman did, again it's not much, he wasn't some servant of the castle, the Evil Queen went to a pub incognito to hire the Huntsman, he accepts the job but Snow White's pleading and crying gets to his heart, he let her go still feeling guilty that creatures in the forest will kill her and it's his fault even if not by her hands, he killed a wild boar brought it's heart to the Queen, and that's the last of him.

The Prince however is literally this in the tale: after a lot of time passes from Snow White in her apple sleep, he offers the dwarfs whatever they'd like for her in her glass coffin because he just so happened to be infatuated with her at first sight, he has his attendants start to haul the case only the drop it as well as knocking the apple piece out of Snow White's mouth, Prince tells her she's safe with him and talked about his infatuation and they marry. At their reception the evil Queen had to dance in hot iron shoes and dance in them until she died.

3 More Dwarfs Join The Cast

There are no small parts in Hollywood. But these days there are plenty of dwarf roles to go around.
Universal is ramping up its casting of the warrior dwarfs in its high-profile Snow White and the Huntsman action adventure movie, with Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins and Toby Jones in negotiations to board the movie.
Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) and Steven Graham are in negotiations to play dwarves in the film as well.
The project, being directed by Rupert Sanders, is a revisionist take on the fairy tale and features Snow White (Kristen Stewart) as a princess who escapes her evil stepmother (Charlize Theron) with the help of a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) who was to have killed her but now trains the princess to survive and fight back.
Evan Daugherty wrote the initial script and Evan Spiliotopoulos is currently working on it.
As Heat Vision first reported Monday, Ian McShane was cast first as the dwarf leader. The dwarf names are veering mightily away from the well-known Disney version, with McShane as Caesar, Jones as a timid dwarf named Claudius and Izzard will be Tiberius, described as the biggest and burliest of the crew. Hoskins will play Constantine, a blind dwarf.
