So you'd rather no movies had been made? Or how about going chronologically and starting the team with only Beast, Cyclops, Jean, Angel, and Iceman. Yeah, that'd be a real box office smash.
Did you even read my response. I said I wanted the movies to be made except it would have been better if it was a little closer to what we have in the chronolgy and history of the comics.
You don't have to start off with X-men # 1 1963, but start with Giant-Size X-men from 1975 where the old team was rescued by the new. And have the old "graduate" in the end and Scott stay on to tran and lead the new team.
Make it where Magneto and the brotherhood are the captors of the old team than some Island to introduce him in the series.
Bring in Jean transformation to the Phoneix for the sequel and incorporate the Sha'ir empire in the story to introduce them to the series.
Then do the Phoenix saga for the third
and make it about SCOTT AND JEAN relationship and not Wolverine and Jean WITHOUT the Legacy storyline included as we seen in the last movie.
And then "Days of Future Past" storyline and then the mutant Massacre" Etc. all those pivitol storys from the X-men comics and cartoon.
And it don't have to be exactly word for word but close enough and with a relative fasimile of their costumes from the comics that works on screen and the characters specific characteristics i.e. Wolverine being short, Storm being African (in in the bikini suit), Rogue a very "heathy" Southern Bell, etc.
Bottom line as stay close to the source material as possible and don't make the movies a vehicles for Wolverine.
A spectacular way of making comic adaptation hasn't hurt Spiderman or Sin City and it wouldn't have hurt the X-Men movies either except Singer started off on the wrong perspective for the movie and had to make do when it came to the sequels.
