Sequels Sony Expands Spider-Man Cinematic Universe: Announced Venom and Sinister Six movies

I think Morbius should get his own movie.

Imagine what they could do with a LIVING Vampire!

Morbius isn't exactly my favorite villain, and I'm not sure if he should really make more than a brief appearance in a Spider-Man film. Though if they used him in a film and proved me wrong, then I would certainly change my mind. The potential is there.

Why not just copy X-Men and say mutants are popping up in the world and six of them form a team to take out spidey. That way you don't need to give each villain a major explanation.

Yup.

At the very least he should get a cameo. I like that they reference him at Ravencroft.

I could see a Venom film along the lines of Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins. Eddie Brock/Venom is going around being a lethal protector (similar to Superman in Man of Steel where he saves people and leaves to take on a new identity) and there are flashbacks to his backstory ala Batman Begins/Man of Steel. Eventually Carnage comes around and makes a mess of things so Eddie Brock/Venom has to finally go out and be the hero he's always wanted to be while dealing with the murderous urges of the symbiote- maybe even striking a deal similar to what Toxin did where its host Patrick Mulligan struck a deal with the symbiote Toxin to no longer murder people.

Venom could team up with Spider-Man to defeat Carnage. Wonder if a symbiote invasion could ever happen?

^ But the problem is this...

Everyone, even my 3 year old nephew and my 97 year old Grandmother, know who Batman is, just like they know who Superman and Spiderman are.

But most people have no clue who Venom is.

So without Venom first being introduced in one or two Amazing Spider-Man movies, Venom won't work. Also the origin story of Venom is so integrated with Spider-Man, not showing that first would be an injustice to the character. Flashbacks just wouldn't cut it.

I like the idea of Venom leaving the city, after he and Spider-Man deal with the whole Carnage thing, but it's not a major thing. If his story is in the city, great, or if he goes off on his own away from the city, again great. It's what they do with the character of Brock and Venom, and who the villain would be, that would make or break this concept.

So here is the real question...

If they did it right and first introduced Brock, the symbiot, and Venom in an Amazing Spider-Man film or films, and then even used the Maximum Carnage story as a Spider-Man film that would feature Venom as an anti-hero, setting him up for his own film, who would be the best villain for Brock/Venom?

It would have to be someone that is as big of a threat as Carnage. And it would need to be different than Venom/Carnage, meaning not another symbiote villain. It could be a team of villains. But I just can't think of a specific Venom villain that is different enough from Venom/Carnage.

Any ideas?

We don't know what the release date for Venom is at this point, maybe it will come out after Eddie has been well-established. For all we know, its not coming out until after the Sinister Six film, or even TASM4. Its possible that the Venom film would focus more on Venom, but still feature Spider-Man (same goes for Sinister Six). Keep in mind that the press release said that these two movies would focus on the villains, but never referred to them as "spin-offs" and never said Spider-Man would be excluded.

^ I think that's my hope, that everyone is making assumptions that the Sinister Six and Venom will get their own movies (without Spiderman) when in fact what was meant is that the next villains will be Sinister Six (as I predicted) and then Venom (as I hoped).

I still feel that the Sinister Six would need 2 films to be done right, and that Venom is such a string villain that he deserves to be the main/sole villain of a film. Also, I would like to see Spidey with the black suit for more than part of one movie. In other words, learn from all of the Spiderman 3 mistakes and do things right! Give Spidey the black suit in movie #3 or 4 and then have him keep it until the next movie where Venom becomes the villain.

I am excited to see how Venom turns out. Even if it isn't a great film, just seeing the Venom character done right on film will make me so happy.

I don't think Spider-Man will have the Venom symbiote for more than one film. If they do go in the direction of USM, he will only have the black suit for a short period of time.

So would the black suit make Spidey powerful enough to defeat the Sinister Six by himself?

^ As long as we don't get:

I think in Spectacular Spider-Man the black suit helped him defeat the Sinister Six, but I haven't seen that show in a while so I may be remembering it wrong.

There's no assumption. That's what the press release said. It's one thing to hope that the press release writers don't know how to say Amazing Spider-Man 3 instead of Sinister Six movie when announcing films, it's another thing to call taking the announcement at face value an assumption.

The S6 do need two films to be done right: a Sinister Six movie to form and an Amazing Spider-Man movie to battle Spider-Man. They don't need two movies battling Spider-Man, that's redundant, that's not interesting.

Venom is a strong villain, but so is Green Goblin, so is Dr. Octopus, so are most of Spidey's villains, and they've been well served by not being the main/sole villain. The mistake of Spider-Man 3 was trying to shove Venom into a Spider-Man movie. It was a great film before Raimi tried to do that, and would have been much better without it. A symbiote subplot with a cliffhanger leading to a Venom spinoff would have been sooooo much better.

Venom isn't really a villain, so him being the main villain in a Spider-Man movie would be untrue to the character, imho. He becomes a good guy, that's what he does.

Well it is an assumption that the Sinister Six and Venom films are spin-offs that exclude Spider-Man. As of now, we only know that these are films that will focus on characters other than the web head.

That would not get people to fill up the seats in the theaters.

Be more specific. Which will not fill up seats in theaters?

I've never really been a fan of Venom as the hero,or anti-hero as it were. He's always been a villain to me.
