From what I've seen of the spoilers, the basic plot structure sounds solid. There's a few details that make me believe we'll see plenty of modifications, because they don't seem to mean well with the trailers. The only thing that I read that really turned me off what how Eddie's symbiote came to earth.

No Spider-man at all.

Symbiotes turn up on a space probe.

The Venom symbiote is essentially a ‘good guy’ right from the get-go. It bonds to Eddie when he breaks into the Life Foundation, where Drake is experimenting with symbiotes.

The whole plot is basically ‘experiments on space symbiotes gone haywire, Eddie gets caught up in it, he and Venom join forces to stop them and Drake’

Carnage is post credits teaser.

Venom makes Eddie dance.

Disney said they wouldnt step on Deadpools toes and that they were fine with R rated comic book films, but I suppose this being connected to Spidey could make Venom the exception. Damn shame. This is why I didnt want Marvel to get ahold of every Marvel character. Not every character needs to conform to the MCU's formula and kid friendly approach. I dread their take on Wolverine. We can be damn sure they'll want Wolverine and the Xmen to tie into the MCU and match its tone and rating.

Exactly why this was always going to be PG-13. They would never have Spidey team-up with a character starring in a R-rated franchise. Kids wouldn't be able to go back and watch Venom (at least most of them) and Spidey is the crown jewel. They'd never allow that. It's a major reason I always said Spidey teaming up with Daredevil was unlikely. The show is too adult.

That's a very different story than the spoilers that I read. It makes me wonder if any of these have any validity.

Ooh, really? How recent is the one you read? Because the one I’ve seen was posted a few days ago. The more recent they are, the more likely they are to be true. And the leak I’ve seen certainly has

The street dance is just... well ok then. film wants to add some humor, so judge it on that and not the idea of what it.

Although i wouldn't be shocked if its a fun little wink to the dance in spider-man 3.

I think Sony had every intention on the film being rated R; until, Fiege told Amy/Sony, no way was Disney/Marvel going to ever agree to Peter/Spidey being part of any franchise carrying a R rating. So I'm sure the rating was discuss as part of a deal forSpidey inclusion in the Sonyverse & adjunct to the MCU.

It's been reported for well over a month that Sony was hesitant about it being an R-rated film because they might want to put it in a shared universe with PG-13 films. Disney has no control over Sony.

Correct. Feige could absolutely have advised them of this, but Sony are the ones with all the power when it comes to decisions about what they want Venom rated.

I guess there is always going to be an issue with an R-rated film within a universe of PG films as some people can’t watch everything. A bit like a TV show having a few episodes here and there that are R-rated even theough the majority aren’t.

I think artistically, R-rated Venom was the right call. I would have made a very hard R Venom movie if I was the one making all the calls. But I cannot blame Sony for thinking of the fact kids cannot see Venom, so what happens if Sony gets the chance to have him team up with Spider-Man? Parents will never be happy Spidey is crossing over with an R-rated franchise.

Yeah, they have to choose one path and neither is 100% ideal. The one thing that I would miss if the commitment is to PG all round is the prospect of getting Carnage later down the line.

Honestly, right now I'm looking more forward to see Venom turn up in an Insomniac sequel. Sure, Venom won't do any hard R stuff in that either, but at least we'll get a proper Venom with actual ties to Spider-Man.
