Spider-Man: Edge of Time - Part 1

I know they've never "raised the bar" since then. Some say Activision has just become a greedy company, but one can hope they change their mind while they have Beenox making Spidey games to give Beenox the chance to finally make a decent game.

It's just their lame business model to have one game per year. Maybe we'll get lucky with a developer who can produce sterling quality in a short amount of time?

Well, Spider-Man 2 is our only shining bit of hope that Activision can do it. Who knows. It doesn't help that they haven't even started the movie tie-in, but perhaps we may have hope for a 2013 game. I'm sure they'll come out of the usage of time travel/dimensions/multiple Spider-Man after this game is released.

To be honest, I don't think we'll get a truly top notch Spidey game until Activision aren't responsible. They know the brand will sell well, regardless of the quality of the game, purely because it's a Spider-Man game. They'll maintain the once a year thing, same as they've done with CoD and Guitar Hero games.

Agreed. S-M2 is their best work, IMO. However, I want na amazing game for his generation of consoles. Shatter Dimensions was good and this looks good as well, but they just didn't hit the nail on the head, IMO.

If this was a team up of Beenox and another company, then we would probably have an amazing free roam Spider-Man game for the current gen consoles. Beenox obviously has alot of passion for the character of SPider-Man. Combine that with a company willing to devote 2 years to a Spdier-Man game, and we would get a real quality game.

Anybody ever see the making of the Spider-man 2 game featurette on the second disc of the Spider-Man 2 DVD? There is obviously alot of passion in their eyes. Same for this.

Spider-Man 2 was a success due to the fact that the game came out when freeroam games were starting to build momentum. IMO what it boils down to is Activision realizing that they've pretty much done all they can do with Spider-Man. They need to give up the rights and let another company take a chance at delivering a better game. I would like to be stoked when I hear of a new Spider-Man game, but as of the last couple of years, each title has been the same old stuff we've been seeing.

Not sure they did everything they could, I'd love to see Radical Entertainment developing a Spidey game to see what they offer

RPG's were popular longer than the days of PS1, I always considered them free roam games

Radical Entertainment, huh? Well, the work they put into Prototype was pretty stellar. Their version of New York reminded me a whole lot of Web of Shadows as well. WoS wasn't cheapening NY's caliber, imo; it's just the game itself lacked in every category.

I don't know, I kind of have high expectations for Edge of Time. Especially since I never really felt Shattered Dimensions was a "game". In my opinion, I personally saw it as a tech demo. A really, really good tech demo. It's like Beenox took these four various mechanics and put them in practice through these various levels. Implementing boss fights and seeing what worked and what didn't.

Now seeing Edge of Time, it's almost like they are taking the best of Shattered Dimensions and going forth from there. Shattered Dimensions was nothing more than getting their feet wet. It's their first time doing a Spider-Man game and they wanted to know what would be well received and what wouldn't be.

I'm not really disappointed in the "no free roam New York". As others have already said, that's been done over and over again. There is only so much you can do with New York city. Here on the other hand. A free roam that they're building entirely from imagination. From a design perspective, you're not limited. They are able to create jungles and other crazy things in the Alchemex building.

I say everyone should remain optimistic. At least until we see something substantial.

I still think they could do more with an open NYC, but sure don't mind them giving it a rest
Swinging, wall motion mechanics, and combat are going to be a blast? Sure hope so
Will stealth be there? I hope for that too

I just feel like they should do more with the open world Spidey games to give it a lasting appeal. NYC itself is a character, but the developers treat it more like any other backdrop and comes across being big, expansive, yet dull and lacking the life and activity that we see go on in NYC on a day to day basis. I agree with you Lizard as far as Shattered Dimensions, it does feel like a tech demo, it's like they just wanted you to get a feel of each Spider-Man. I'm trying to remain optimistic, but I still have a feeling I'll be let down in the end

Just read the new Official PlayStation Magazine. Their preview had a couple of brand-new screenshots. It had Peter David hyping up the project a bit, mentioning the very close relationship between him and Beenox, that if he didn't like anything in the story, the team would change it, and that he wrote even the minor grunts.

Also, they mentioned a mix of "new and classic Spidey villains", which would include a "takeoff from the classic villain, the Green Goblin". Take that as you will.

A takeoff?

Oh, God, please no rendition of Ultimate as Noir had, lol.

I wouldn't mind if we get 616 or 2099, just a decent version of Green Goblin would be nice. But, then again...why use GG and not make him the final boss? That's like spitting in the face of the fans.

Ugh. That means they're gonna s***t on the character of norman osborn by "reimagining" him or some dumb nonsense. Jeez ppl, just give us 616 Goblin! What is so wrong with that?

They wanted to get 616 and 2099 Spidey together and 616 Goblin has no relation to 2099 Spidey, so they threw him in "as an extra."

Think of it this way: his potential can't be wasted if he isn't in it, now can it?

just imagining a 2099 Green Goblin makes me cringe

Goblin 2099 was also mentioned in Spider-Man: SD when Hobgoblin meets 2099 Spidey. Spidey says, "I already have a goblin."

Funny how most of the stuff we see from Beenox's games is in French. I know the company is from Quebec, Canada, but still.

Yeah, most of them are French Canadian. Gerard Lehiany though, is french (even if he put some english words...), he worked for UbiSoft Montpellier (apparently did some Design on the first Raving Rabbids).

Spider-ManHero12 : What the point in doing free roam by the way ? Seriously ? Spider-Man 2 is way over rated (he was the first, so that's understandable) and every other Spidey game didn't end up well with it. Every single game with free roam had poor combat system (except WoS maybe, which is, for me, the best free roam but really bad plot). Anyway, I can live without it, Shattered Dimensions was surprisigly good and it seem like they're doing bigger rooms anyway. Don't get me wrong, I like free roam. But if it has no purpose at all (like it always had before), I can't see the point.

Wow that vid was absolutely AWESOME in my opinion!

Everything looks SO much more fluid! The animations are better, the graphics are way better, I love the voice acting and from the little stuff we got to see, it looks alot more varied than SD.

I love how the web swinging look. And the combat looks more heavy!

Thanks for sharing CuberToy!

I think in this game with such settings and all that, Shocker would really fit and would be awesome to battle! I hope he's in.

I almost fell asleep. Honestly.
This game is not for me. What a shame.
I can only wait for the next and hope it feels really different and interesting.
