Far From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

Franchise is confirmed dead with them at the helm UNLESS... they get lorde and Miller to do it and stay out of their way.
I think this is their Ace.

They’ve already got a deal in place with them, it wouldn’t be a far stretch for that to extend to the live-action series. With or without Holland, I think that duo can do wonders in the long term.

I'd feel better if Tom Rothman was fired ...was he in Epsteins black book?

I think we can all agree that Spider-Man would be better off not in the hands of Tom Rothman. I think we are all united on that front LOL

I do hope they bring in some good creatives to steer the ship though. The previous suggestions of Lord and Miller for example would be excellent

I don't see why Sony's getting so much flack for this. Marvel isn't automatically entitled to Spider-Man. A deal was struck. I think the idea Sony doesn't want to intensely change the terms. I don't see why they're the bad guys.

Mark Reilly from Collider says the rumor going around Hollywood is that Rothman and Feige don’t get along.
Doesn’t surprise me at all. Feige probably wants to be left alone.

Sony seems to think they know how to make a good live action Spider-man movie on their own now. Venom proves otherwise. I have no idea how that movie made so much.

Also we are assuming way too much based on "facts" that all these sites can't even get straight to me they're both at fault.

Even if Watts attempts to make it work on a 3rd film, he’ll be running for the hills when he meets with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach for the first time
Lmao.

Sony should hire Marc Webb, Zack Snyder or Simon Kinberg to direct the 3rd movie.

Feige has been butting heads with Rothman since X-Men. No surprise there

Venom overperformed in China. Taken that out it performed well but nothing phenomenal in BO. It made less in the US where the good money is earned by studios than in China.

It skewed so much toward China that the foreign/domestic split was rather tilted at 75/25 compared to a more typical 60/40 or two thirds/one third split.

One good thing about Chinese audience though, once they fell in love with a franchise it will take a lot of bad movies from that franchise for their passion to peter out. Transformers is a good example of that. So Venom will have that in its favor.

To all the folks that called this the second Sony hired Rothman to run their studio, nicely done

He’s been a thorn in the ass of quality comic book movies for 2 decades, it’s impressive really

If this all goes down the way Sony wants it to... Marvel will easily shut down all and any Spider-Man merch/comics/etc. as they did with Fantastic 4, and their stifling of X-Men in the media because of how Fox treated their characters.

I could see the video game sequel even being cancelled.

Lol no they won't. Do you realize how much money Marvel/Disney makes from Spidey merch a year?

No matter how bad this deal is spiderman merch isnt going anywhere. Hes the most profitable superhero by a wide margin.
Which is a large reason why Marvel will never do to Spider-Man what they did with Fantastic Four & X-Men when they didn’t have their film rights, and sideline him in terms of marketing. X-Men and Fantastic Four merchandise was never nearly as worth as Spidey’s hence why Marvel basically stop promoting them as much, and lessened their prominence in all Marvel related content. Spider-Man is too vital for Marvel to not promote. He’s their Mickey Mouse(I acknowledge that this an ironic analogy to make considering who owns Marvel).

Any chance that a deal is reached before Disney’s D23 presentation on Friday?

I'd love Disney to just buy Sony Pictures and be done with it. Get Spidey back home where he belongs and give the MCU every single one of their characters.

Wow, just wow, just because Spider-man and you want Disney to be a bigger *****e than it already is.

Saw this over on Reddit and it's a really good point, hopefully Disney/Marvel can use this as leverage:

"Marvel - or their dad, Disney - still has one massive piece of leverage left in this situation: Spider-Man PS4.

Sony/Insomniac doesn’t own the video game rights to Spider-Man, they’re licensed from Marvel. Spider-Man PS4 is one of Sony’s highest grossing games ever.

I would not be surprised at all if Marvel now turns around and refuses to renew said license for a sequel in light of this development. In doing so, that then means Sony Pictures’ decision doesn’t just affect themselves, but also Sony Interactive.

Remember how the initial deal between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios was established in 2015? By the CEO of Sony as a whole stepping in and basically forcing Pascal, Arad, et al, to do it. And if their actions now start to have an affect on Sony’s most profitable division, their video games, I would not be surprised to see the CEO step in once more."
