Far From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

Anyone notice the signature on the check that Happy is carrying? Seems interesting.

I wouldn't rule out they won't go there. I hope to see a more emotional heart to heart with Peter and May...and mention Ben by name for goodness sake. He's kind of a big deal here...take a cue from Spider-Verse--it's ok to have deep, emotionally resonant moments in a movie. It really helps to sell the whole Peter is relatable ideal.

Imo even at 5 minutes this type of convo is needed. Having some emotional moments like this was missing from Homecoming. Either way, will we get as powerful a moment as when Peter tells May about Ben in Raimi's Spider-Man 2?

I never really felt the struggle or conflict that comes with Peter being Spider-Man in Homecoming.

Not only the whole moment with Peter and May about Ben in spiderman 2 but the there is a hero in all of us speech thing to was always great.

My interpretation of this trailer (and the fact that word is that it takes place moments after Endgame) is that somehow the snap just ceases to exist. Like...the Avengers go back into the past and stop Thanos before his people even invade NY...meaning that Peter could be about to leave for his field trip in Infinity War...and then in Far From Home it replays him leaving for his field trip, but he never has to get out of the bus to fight.

Probably wrong.

Interesting theory. When it comes to time travel, there are so many possibilities. Sad thing is, we won't get Stan Lee as the bus driver.

In Infinity War, Peter told Stark during the initial fight in New York that they were on there way to MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) which is in Manhatten. So this is a separate field trip.

How did Peter not sense Fury in the room?

Spidey sense only works when there's a threat. Fury isn't one

Peter's spider-sense is supposed to trigger whenever anyone is around that could see him changing/unmasking,etc. It doesn't matter if they have actual intentions to threaten or harm him.

(This pretty much applies to the Ned bedroom scene in HC more than here since Fury knows Peter's Spider-Man anyway and he wasn't in costume)

Trailer was nice didn't seem to give anything away, I like that Fury will be in it. Mysterio having the fishbowl is awesome.

In IWs Peter was on a bus either going to a field trip or coming back, I believe he mentioned field trip. This movie can be before IWS or after Endgame if they reverse time up to that day.

She already does most of the corporate stuff anyway, so I'm not sure if this is really indicative of anything.

Interesting. Admittedly, it being a genuine instinctive threat sensor does make more sense in my opinion (and seems to be how it works in the MCU).

Nick Fury is Venom, which is how he didn't trigger Peter's spider sense.

Overall, thought the trailer was pretty decent.

Biggest thing this franchise has to win me on is the supporting cast. So far with Homecoming, they're just not that likeable. There was no joy in seeing them interact with Peter outside of Toomes and Liz. I liked what I saw of MJ but Flash, Ned, and Aunt May still come off as bland one-dimensional trends and nothing else. It's alarming because in the long run, arguably it's the supporting cast that keeps a Spider-Man continuity going more than the villains.

Surprisingly I like what I saw of Fury. They won me over on how they used Tony, so I'll reserve judgment on how much of a 'Spider-sidekick' Peter is in this till I see the movie. Still, just based on the trailer, Peter and Fury have a far more egalitarian dynamic than Peter and Tony did in the Homecoming trailers. Actually it's the most egalitarian I've ever seen him be with Fury. I think the people jumping to conclusions just based on this trailer are letting the nightmares of the USM cartoon and Homecoming marketing days get to them.

About Mysterio being a good guy, I'll believe it when I see it. I mean, besides the fact posing as a hero is a classic Mysterio trope, why Mysterio? Seems like a random choice to hero-bend. I like the idea of Sandman and Hydro-Man being creations of him to con the public with.

Besides that, there's not much else to say. It's a pretty short trailer.

Ah, gotcha, thanks...I've only seen Infinity War once because the meaningless snap/fake deaths ruined the movie for me and I've never bothered to watch it again.

Deaths being meaningless is a big reason why I stopped reading Marvel and DC comics as well...so it bums me out that the movies/tv shows have taken on the same habits.

My takeaways

Pros:
- Holland is still the best live action Spidey to date
- Mysterio looks amazing
- Holland is growing into the role nicely
- The Elemental sequences look breathtaking
- Peter and Fury's dynamic is going to be a highlight of the movie
- Manhattan web swinging

Cons:
- Michelle. I don't really understand the decision they've made with MJ. I don't get why she can't just be A) new character with no relation to Mary Jane Watson at all or B) Zendaya actually playing Mary Jane Watson. This weird in between ruins any chance of getting a faithful adaption of MJ in the MCU. It's very odd

- Happy and May. This... Kinda came out of nowhere. My reaction was the same as Peter's "What just happened?" Odd pairing. Interested to see where this goes

- The supporting cast still kinda irks me. Mostly over it but some of the choices (Ned, Flash, Gwetty) are odd. They could have used Gloria, Randy, Kenny Kong, Ned Lee (SSM) and Sha-Sha and accomplished the same effect. Without the weird elseworlds take on those characters

We don't know how the scene plays out just yet. It could be triggered but not shown in the trailer

So Spider-Man is typically in NY but then he shows up in DC when Peter happens to be there then he's back in NY after the decathalon and now he's visiting London, Venice and wherever else at the exact time as Peter. Gee! What a coincidence!

I really don't understand this take... Thanos doing the snap is the single most iconic moment of his history. You just wanted them to skip it because it wouldn't be permanent? Didn't stop the source from becoming iconic... And I guarantee you Endgame will have more lasting ramifications and death than the original storyline did.

I'm fine with a snap. I'm NOT fine with the deaths being reversed. If death is meaningless, then these battles really don't matter at all. No matter what happens to the characters we love, even if they die, they will be back. And in the cases where they don't come back, then...well...the death scene was still ruined because as soon as they died I'm already rolling my eyes, assuming that they'll be back. For ME, the list of "this person is dead...no they aren't" is just getting way too long in the MCU.

On THR, they're saying they think the Elementals are Sandman, Hydro-Man and Molten Man, and that makes me happy. It would be a big missed opportunity otherwise.

Great trailer :)

Why not? He filmed a load of cameos before he died. He may not be a bus driver but there is a good possibility he's in the film.
