Far From Home Spider-Man: Far From Home General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

I'll be really happy to see what Tom's Spidey can do on his own. No Stark suit/tech, no Edith glasses, no Happy, no Fury. Just Spider-Man.

Wow the way Tom is talking in that, you can totally tell he’s not happy about it. He’s so down and fake-thusing about things. His looks off camera to people who are clearly giving him cues are quite illuminating of how much damage control is going on. Spidey has become so enmeshed in the MCU, how they are going to write him out of it is going to be very weird. He was being set up as the new Tony Stark but that’s all gone now. I wonder who will lead going forward? Captain Marvel?

I honestly think they won't write him out they'll just not mention him

I don't see how Spider-Man is really important to the MCU as is. I don't think anyone is important to the MCU at this point. Barely anyone knows Peter personally and he doesn't seem that important in the grand scheme of things and his movies aren't I think meaningful. As far as I'm concerned, Thor could get a call in Guardians 3 that Peter Parker was assassinated off screen and I don't see it effecting the MCU much.

Except it would be a completely unsatisfying way to end his character arc, and I'm pretty sure Feige has more integrity as a storyteller than that. It'd be much better for the MCU to just "put Spider-man on a bus" (Put on a Bus - TV Tropes) until they are able to use him again.

Yeah, I think more people would be at peace with Spider-Man leaving the MCU if FFH hadn't ended on a freaking cliffhanger.

As I've said multiple times I'm not a huge fan of this iteration of Spider-Man but even I'm pissed off.

Here's a theory:

Sony as part of the deal, wanted Venom to feature in the next Spider-man movie, but Feige didn't want to do it.

Yeah especially since it would have been so easy to wrap things up more conclusively for Spider-man. Even just not having that post-credits scene would have done wonders.

I'd really love to get a more nuanced idea of Feige's perspective on all this, rather than the generic PR spin. How aware was he of the fragility of the Spider-man situation? What were his real plans with the character going forward? Is he hoping to get him back eventually and making any efforts to push for a deal to be made? How much of a say does he even have when it comes to these things? Do the execs actually listen to him?

So much that I'm curious about...

Just a month ago Feige was saying this

“And now people know Peter’s identity. People now think he’s a villain, Mysterio plays one last trick on him and succeeds… [so that] means everything’s different. Where it goes, we’ll see. But it’s exciting that it once again sets us up for a Peter Parker story that has never been done before on film.”
So there's no way that "we finished telling our story we wanted to tell" is true. Whatever they had planned I think that massive cliffhanger was there was so it'd be harder for Sony to tell on their own without them.

Well Fiege has said in the past he had a 5 movie arc set for the character. including the cross overs movies.

We have had 5. maybe it was the Tony stark/Peter parker arc.

Technically, yeah, FFH was the culmination of the Tony/Peter arc. Which is why it would have been so easy to have just wrapped things up with that movie, let it end with Peter going off on his own to fight crime off screen from now on.

But instead...

I don't buy for a second Feige was done with his intentions for Spider-Man.

I dont think this was posted. Sony Reportedly Wants $10 Billion For Spider-Man Rights, Disney Won't Pay

They need to both stop being *****es and figure out some compromise. It's in both of their interest to keep Spider-Man in the MCU.

Reminds me of this:

"YOU PEOPLE...ARE IN FOR IT".

Given the source, I doubt that amount is correct. But if it is, it would take the Mouse - estimating movie rights to Spidey and spinoffs to be good for (at best) $400M annually in bottom line profits - 25 years to earn back that investment! I ain't no movie mogul, but thats a bad deal. It may possibly be worth that to Sony, but not to Disney.

I don't see how it would be in Sony's best interest at all if it means sharing some of the box office.
