This is still the Spidey game to beat for me! :D

Yea that was great. This one will beat it though. This game will be talked about as one of the best of 2018. I guarantee it. Iv been right 100% on everything iv said about this game and I'll continue to be right. This is the Spidey game, true gamers and Spidey fans deserve.

I would say it's this

Let's scale back the incredibly immersive environment so Spidey can swing like SM2. Yeah, no thanks.

This was the biggest surprise of E3 so far for me. Can't believe how good this game looks.

I was confident, but I wasn't sure until last night. Now I'm certain this will be the case.

Yeah i think the nostalgia factor is blinding some. Yes SM2 was great for its time. But i remember even when it was new, there were problems with the traversal mechanics. We saw him swinging for like 20 seconds in this and its already being condemned by some.

This so much.

About Spider-Man 2 it was a great game for its time and my favorite Spider-Man game but with that said it is not a great game now just really good and not aged great. Batman Arkham city, knight, Origins are all in my top like 10 games of all time and asylum like top 30 or so. While I like Spider-Man 2 heck thinking about going back and playing it have not played it for a while but it is never a game I think about has being one of the best games I have ever played before. I hope this game can do that for Spider-Man.

If I can be able to let Spider-Man still, move him, slow down his swing, speed it up, I'll be happy.
Only one line of swinging was slow, the rest are fast enough.

Bingo. Obviously the gameplay has not aged well but when it comes to the atmosphere, voice acting, story, score, costumes, etc nothing compares. This is my favorite Spider-Man product ever.

I'm sure the new game will blow all the others out of the water, but I don't know if it can capture that 80's-90's Spider-Man feel the 2000 game did.

I get where you're coming from. But to me quicktime events are just faulty game design. Like here for example: Spiderman is performing incredible superheroics under pressure, but we the players don't experience that rush of action. We get ridiculously simple and effortless button prompts. Can't have the button sequence be complex either because then you get the SM3 problem. I'd rather not have the big cinematic moment at all if it's gonna be a quicktime event since gameplay-wise it's just slop

And speaking of slop, the web zip physics are horrendous. Even when Spidey zips upwards to a perch point which is relatively far, he just flies all the way there in a straight line. The close up zipping isn't pretty either, the motion from a perch point to another is unorganicly clunky.

And then there's the crown jewl of this mess: web swinging. It's floaty and sluggish. It shocked me especially because we've had terrific webswinging in some past games, to me prime examples are SM2 and Web Of Shadows. The physics in them aren't perfect, but they had an actual sense of momentum and groove.

I honestly can't even understand why almost everybody else seem to love this gameplay.

I'm sorry you're disappointed WallCrawler :( I'll admit for the first minute I was a little confused on how I felt because of how similar, mechanically, it is to the Beenox games. But, to be honest--those games had good ideas. They really tried. They were, sadly, restricted by time and money and those good ideas were executed poorly. Insomniac has the chance to make those ideas great, and it seems like they have. But, yes, the familiarity is a bit unsettling at first. It isn't as innovative as I (and I'm assuming you) would've liked, but for me: fun > new.

But it also sounds like your expectations were a lil too great. The fact that his web zip range is too far for you seems a bit silly, no? That's a nitpick and a half. I can understand where you're coming from (I actually thought the same too) but the fact that it's #2 on a 3 point list of why you're so upset with this game is a bit much perhaps? Idk, maybe just me.

And as far as the swinging goes--this has incredible sense of weight and physics. I think you're being blinded by disappointment. If you watch the swinging section again, Spidey really has weight. He feels heavy and THERE. There's a great sense of physics on his body. No speed, though, I agree. But there's a lot that could explain that and I'm not going to speculate (because I don't want to get any hopes up--mine, yours, or otherwise) but until we see some basic, no-holds-barred, free-roam gameplay--I think it's too early to tell. Plus, the guy playing cancels out more than half the swings with the web-zip ability, so we don't have a perfect sense for the swinging yet, anyway.

But all-in-all, you have to remember: This is a scripted demo to give you an idea of all the core mechanics of the game. You have the stealth section, the combat section, the web-swinging section, the QTE section, the large-scale cinematic moments, the story moments--all of it, and how it how blends together to make these large-scale, movie moments. It's not a mirror for the whole game (at least i hope not), it's one continuous moment that showcases numerous elements together and that's all. Great for the average gamer they're trying to reel in, but perhaps a bit underwhelming for those of us who just want to web-swing at mach 5 ;)

It'll be okay, WallCrawler. Disappointment sucks big time, but I think once you see some more of this game, you'll warm up to it. I think the initial shock of it not being something MIND-BLOWING and NEVER BEFORE SEEN is sitting pretty heavy on you. Head up man :)

they have to walk a fine line with regards to making Spidey feel like he has "weight."

to a degree, Spidey is a very "bouncy" character. His body isn't totally bound by the laws of the physical world the way a non-super powered character like Batman is.

Spidey has to have "weight" but he should still feel light and dynamic and agile in his movements.

hard to explain, but you get what I mean?

No I totally get that. It does seem like the went the more realistic route if this demo is any indication. He resembles more of a real man attempting to web swing haha i appreciate it but definitely could be a problem.

We'll see. Possible at PSX this time! They've unveiled the game, so you think they'd be more open now.

Or not...

The reason they fall behind other games is because they were rushed movie games on a budget and schedule. This is a AAA game. If Spidey's movement has to be slowed down to run smoothly they should've downsized the graphics. Or maybe it had nothing to do with the graphics and the swinging mechanics are just clunky. We will see.

Well, imo, currently this game's locomotion looks better than anything we've gotten thus far. And with close to another year to polish things up, I honestly wouldn't be worried about it, assuming you are. At least to me, the physics with this swinging are such a big improvement over previous iterations, including the beloved SM2.

To the emboldened...this is what I clued into also. The mechanics do resemble the Beenox games and imo that's got to be a good thing because I honestly believe that Beenox was on to some good ideas for Spider-Man games. They solved the wall-crawling issues that plagued so many other iterations--camera would always get wonky and you couldn't wall crawl properly. Beenox corrected that really well. They also came up with the web rush and utilized that 'bullet time' mode which isn't very innovative but it suits Spider-Man and his speed. It looks to me like Insomniac picked up on those ideas but also progressed those ideas a bit further. Nothing against Beenox but I feel like Insomniac are more accomplished, probably more talented and have the benefit of not working for Activision.

So what month do you think this baby will hit? I'm thinking April/May.

I'm thinking October. I'd prefer it be sooner but at the same time, I've been waiting for years to get a AAA title Spider-Man game. Waiting another year and a few months is not a big deal. I'd rather they polish it to perfection and take all the time they need.

Well considering the last time I checked the gameplay views on Marvel, it was something like 85K to 1K in terms of likes to dislikes, so yeah, this baby is on f-ing fire, lol.

My initial shock has worn mostly off now, and having read a few comments here, this game will likely come out around august-october giving them a lot of time for polishing. My negative's haven't really changed but here's a few positives:

- Graphics are beautiful
- voice acting is good
- combat is energetic and has a sense of strategy
- the parkour looks neat

didn't the Insomniac guy say in the developer interview that we would get an extended version of this gameplay?

Loving my new avatar, and the new 250kb avatar capability.
I think I heard the voice of Watanabi Yuri someplace before, not sure where.

He did, but I don't know what he considers "extended". It'll be a live demo (i think the Sony demo was prerecorded) so maybe they just mean it'll be more natural? I don't know, we'll find out soon.

How soon, approximately?
