Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 1

I don't know why we have to have the web zip in near distance at all. Spider-Man could jump directly to the points. He isn't Batman, who cannot jump such heights and distances in one leap. I think with good animations this would, look way better. Use the webbing only for really long distances or swinging, not as a substitue for jumping.

For precision landing, speeds up movement, and cuts back on unwanted foul ups for the demo.

I'm hope the game focuses also on Peter and there is gameplay as him. It doesn't make sense if he is Spidey all the time. I hope we can go inside Peter's home and Daily Bugle like in Spider-Man 2. There should also be more places we can go as Peter.

Interviews say he will be playable as Peter, but I think they won't do the Daily Bugle staff photographer a thing here.

Spider-Man's Free-Roam Manhattan Area Will Be 'Four to Six Times Bigger' Than Sunset Overdrive:
https://www.playstationtrophies.org...-Six-Times-Bigger--Than-Sunset-Overdrive.html

In a behind-closed-doors hands-off preview of PS4's Spiderman, Insomniac community director James Stevenson confirmed to PlayStation Trophies that the game will be 'four to six times bigger' than Sunset Overdrive (Insomniac's last open world game) and will be the biggest game Insomniac has ever created.

Stevenson also confirmed that you'll be able to free roam around 'the whole of Manhattan' with a web-slinging mechanic that's based on momentum and physics - that trailer in the Sony presser is pretty indicative of how the game will handle: we saw the same section played through again, but this time the player wasn't as fluid in navigating the various obstacles, so it showed that you do have a good level of control over Spider-Man and the game isn't just an on-rails experience.

How big is the world in Sunset Overdrive? I hope Manhattan will be close to size it was in Spider-Man 3 or bigger. It felt big and was wide.

I wish I knew how big the map is in Sunset Overdrive, I don't own any Xbox.
I think the city is actually bigger in Spider-Man 2 than it is in Spider-Man 3 from Treyarch, cause even with the speed of Spider-Man 2 is takes more time to travel from one end of Manhattan to the next..

isn't anyone else bothered by the web zip animations? I'm not against the inclusion of a web zip move and I know that in a game like this some creative liberties will break real world physics, but it has to at least look somewhat believable. It just looks dumb when Spidey yanks on a web and that just rockets him upwards. Sure it's handy in getting you precisely where you aim but couldn't they do something that didn't break the immersion so hard? like for example in the stealth section (since they already have that agility system) couldn't there be an emphasis on moving acrobatically instead of constant web zips which looks boring anyway? I would've preferred it that way. I hope there's still a choice to do it like that instead of transparently breaking laws of physics. But even so, it would feel lame to stubbornly not use the web zip especially when it's the fastest choice

I'd have to agree with this.

It was one of my pet peeves in the TASM games. The "over reliance" on web-zip for "easy locomotion" even when web-zipping wouldn't be the most practical ( or fastest ) solution.

I get using web-zip to traverse greater distances across the city.

But, when I'm in a narrow hallway and I simply want to jump up to the vent on the wall, or jump up to the ceiling, I shouldn't need to web-zip to that location when Spidey could easily do it in a single bound.

So, yes, I would like to see less reliance on web-zip and more actual movement from Spidey to get to place to place.

Use web-zip when it makes sense. use leaping and locomotion when that makes sense.

I haven't played Sunset Overdrive either but here's an image of the in-game map:

A map can be a bit deceiving so maybe someone that has actually played the game can chime in on how large of map this actually 'feels' while playing and going from coast to coast.

At times the animation in the demo does have a bit of a hiccup. I'm guessing the game won't come out until October 2018 so that should give them more than enough time, I would think, to take care of those issues.

Does anyone know when the next possible time/event is coming around that might be another showcase for the game?

PSX on December 9-10 is the only one I know of, and I think they wanna keep developing the game in peace until that

They should get Stan Lee to narrate the character gallery like in the PS1 game:

That would be awesome.

PSX in December. Hope we get a more concrete release window. And yes they are going to polish the hell out of this, they always do.

Gotham. :p

His narration on the PS1 games still is a pleasure to listen to, I can say the same about his dialogue in The Amazing Spider-Man games and lines in LEGO Marvel, but his commentary on Shattered Dimensions is far less enjoyable to listen to.

Spider-Man is the most viewed piece of e3 content on youtube with 11 mil views combined.

I dislike the title of the game. Especially after going a whole year without knowing what it was. Marvel's Spider-Man is such a letdown. Especially considering how they set out to emphasize just how different this Spidey is and that its its own thing, the title ended up being rather generic

If I could add a 'like' system to the site, so I could like/favorite/+ this post, I'd do it. I'd then delete the damn thing because, for the most part, I hate those stupid things. Cool vid tho.

Holy crap I'd forgotten all about this in the game. This and the code input screen where if you entered a profanity, Spidey would punch the word into something wholly innocuous. Good times with that game.

Spider-Man: Electric Boogaloo [/obligatory]

Thanks fellas. My thinking on this--since the next possible showing of the game is another 6 months away, they might have polished the animations up enough that they could give a much better look at the web swinging and locomotion. Then maybe it would ease some of the concerns that people are having with that issue. Because watching that demo again, during the helicopter chase, there's barely even any web swinging. He's mostly web zipping and wall running. But I agree with the idea that web zipping shouldn't be something that Spidey needs to heavily rely on for getting around.

What does everyone that played the Beenox games think about the two different types of web swinging? They had one for outdoor and one for indoor. IMO, it made swinging indoors much more efficient. I wonder if they'll use a similar approach here. After all, they seem to be taking some cues from the Beenox development.

Edit: One other thing...I hope they do away with the cut scenes before and after doing random crimes/activities within the open world that Beenox was using. And also, the insanely ridiculous punishment system in place for skipping random activities just cause you are trying to get to the next mission--that looked awful.

So, Gotham in Arkham City is roughly the same size as Sunset?
