Thank you for the respectfulness.
Anyway, the one thing I've heard that this film is getting right that the Raimi films got wrong is Spider-Man's sarcastic wit.

What about his intellectual side? Didn't really see much of that in the previous trilogy.

True. The one thing Raimi nailed, IMO, was how difficult it was for Peter to be Spider-man...it's part of the reason I love SM2 so much.

Good point. We did see it in the Raimi films, but I don't think we saw it very much when he was Spider-Man.

I don't even mind it that much because it's an acceptable adaption to the real world. But to be up in arms about the changes made to Spidey's costume and then to turn around and say, "Oh yeah but I like The Dark Knight Batsuit." is blind ignorance and hypocrisy.
Indeed.
Yet you think the TASM suit is too far from the comics because of "unnecessary changes". LOL The Nolan suit is the definition of unnecessary changes.
Exactly, it goes far beyond unnecessary changes (that people seem to hate about this Spidey suit), it doesn't matter if you like Bat's the suit or not. It's just that movie was so great, people are afraid to compare what is the absolute truth in the suit being the definition of unnecessary changes. Yet, even with these unnecessary changes Nolan's Batman is Top-Dog amongst comic book films, every other comic book film is measured by it, not by Iron Man or Spider-Man.

In short, hope for a really good, if not, great movie, because the movie as a whole...that's where sh-- falls apart classic suit or not.

With no other material to go off of essentially other than comics and animated tv shows, Raimi did an incredible job bringing Spidey to the big screen. SM1 was the first, if you discount Xmen 1, superhero movie that showcased a good story, acting, heart felt characters you could believe in all on top of some very cool action sequences.

I like the direction Webb is now taking our beloved Spidey cause it holds closer to the comics but Raimi and his vision will always remain close to my heart.

I agree. Sam Raimi really nailed the central themes and ideas of Spider-Man as a character.
I don't see how Webb's vision is really closer to the spirit of Spider-Man than Raimi's was, once you figure in the changes he's making.

Apart from the webshooters and other things, both have made changes in some areas and stuck to the source material in other areas.

I'm glad that Webb is putting his spin on it, as Raimi did.

In terms of spirit, No, I don't think Webb will out do Raimi but they should hopefully be on par. But in terms of being 'truer' to Spidey's story I think Webb will be closer, ie mechanical web shooters, Gwen Stacy, George Stacy, Dr Connors, showing Peter's parents, etc.

The most important thing to me, more important than the webshooters or the costume, are the central themes, ideas, and characters of Spider-Man. If Webb gets those right, the reboot will work, if not, then it will fail.

I have faith in Webb. It looks or seems as though he is on the correct path.

Yep. It's a shame that people can't look past the costume and other things long enough to realise that.

I'm not sold on the new costume, the redesigned Lizard, the "punk rock" Peter, et cetera.

I don't think it's that strange to think so.

In my opinion, that's impossible, as he's already lost a few battles. Little things like the costume, the change in Peter's characterization, et cetera, but still losses none the less, so Flawless Victory is out of question for me.
Still, he could top the Raimi series.

Agreed.

Agreed.

I don't agree with anything you said there so it's definitely possible. The costume looks great to me. The characterization of Peter DEFINITELY seems much better than Raimi's one.
