The Amazing Spider-Man Spider-Man Reboot Costume Part 4 - "What's that in his eye??" - Part 5

I don't need the exact same thing, but I don't want a reinvented Peter Parker. Because when I go to a Spider-Man movie, I want to see Spider-Man on the big screen. If I didn't want to see the same character again, then I wouldn't go.

Then....go watch the last trilogy?

I wouldn't say it's a flawless victory. I'm loving the reboot as much as the next dude, and I think it will be better, but there were still a lot of awesome things about Raimi's films. Namely the development of Harry Osborn.

So you're saying you like the new costume better than the previous one?

Yes. The classic design itself on Raimi's suit was great of course. But I like the colours and slim shape on this new one much more.

He's not missing his point. It's all about opinion. You can't say that he's wrong.

For me, it looks like a flawless victory so far.

He was missing the point that it's not a Flawless Victory unless absolutely 100% everything tops the Raimi films, which isn't the case in my opinion.

Yeah, in your opinion. But you seemed to not accept his opinion.

I'm reserving final judgement on the overall film until I actually see it.

How so?

I like that he seems to be sad and frustrated pre-spider bite. Also, that he has no friends. Tobey's Peter was a little too happy about being a loser with one friend and having the girl of his dreams completely ignore him.

You seem to have concerns with the "punk rock instinct" thing, but I think that's perfectly in line with being a vigilante. He's basically flipping the bird to the man even if his intentions are noble.

Overall, I get the sense that this Peter is a little more pro-active than Tobey's Peter. Tobey!Peter seemed a little too content to sit on his laurels and wait for the villain to track him down or steal his girlfriend before he did anything.

Also, it seems like this Peter will actually use his smarts to solve his problems. When did Tobey!Peter ever use his genius to get himself out of a jam or save the day?

You're missing the point. For Webb to have a Flawless Victory and top Raimi in EVERY aspect, he must have EVERYTHING over Raimi. He doesn't, so he won't top Raimi in EVERY aspect.

Hmm, that's still something that's extremely subjective. I personally think he already has a flawless victory.

Which is rather vague.

You didn't answer my question.

Because clearly, there's no way to stay true to the basics without it being the exact same.:whatever:

Agreed.

DEFENITELY x 3!

Agreed.

Word.

Yes. The classic design itself on Raimi's suit was great of course. But I like the colours and slim shape on this new one much more.

Personally, I'll take the Acheson suits over the new one any day of the week.

Okay, I'm sorry, but how don't you guys see an improvement in Peter Parker here. There is a CLEAR improvement in both Peter Parker and Spider-Man. He's a smartass, he is already presenting himself as an intellect far more than Tobey's Peter Parker ever did (reading gene splicing books on his free time, finishing Dr. Connors' sentences for him, building his webshooters in his room, etc.) and Spider-Man does more quipping and funny **** in one scene than Raimi's Spider-Man did in 3 films.

Like guys, I get that you love the Raimi films, but you need to be careful of just blindly ignoring any improvements in the new film in order to preserve the sanctity of the old films.

What are the basics for you, though?

I don't think you have any idea how out of place Tobey's Peter would be in Webb's Spider-Man universe. The characterization is going to be dependent on the universe. Webb's universe is completely different to Raimi's... so yeah, not sure what you were expecting and what you want. :|

So would I.

Look guys, nobody is saying the reboot will be bad. I'm just tired of people acting like Sam didn't get the character right, when really it's the exact opposite. We've been through this time and time again and the fact is, he was.

No one is saying he didn't get aspects of the character right, but he certainly didn't nail Peter or Spider-Man. Not even close. Refer to my post a few posts up...

And we're all tired that some people are acting as though Webb hasn't gotten anything right so far.

See how it is on both sides?

And as others said, Raimi did get a lot of things right. Especially Peter's struggle between being Peter Parker AND Spider-Man. I love Spider-Man 2 just for that.

I respect your opinion SMH12, but you shouldn't take this personally :P You seem to do that.

I don't think Raimi got the character of Spider-Man right. Of Ditko's Peter Parker? Yeah sure! But not Spider-Man. That's my opinion.

And I think we've had a very civilized discussion about this now.

I don't take it personally, I just hate when people flip out over something that someone says.

Webb has gotten a good amount of things right so far. That's clompletely obvious, but Raimi also got things right. Both of them have gotten things right so far, we just dont know how much Webb has gotten right all togeather.

Fair enough.

Yeah, in your opinion. But you seemed to not accept his opinion.

I am accepting his opinion. I'm just stating that, in my opinion, he can't have a flawless victory.

I like that he seems to be sad and frustrated pre-spider bite. Also, that he has no friends. Tobey's Peter was a little too happy about being a loser with one friend and having the girl of his dreams completely ignore him.

Valid point.

You seem to have concerns with the "punk rock instinct" thing, but I think that's perfectly in line with being a vigilante. He's basically flipping the bird to the man even if his intentions are noble.

And that's my problem. Peter Parker isn't about "flipping the bird to the man". He's about helping people and doing what's right.

Overall, I get the sense that this Peter is a little more pro-active than Tobey's Peter. Tobey!Peter seemed a little too content to sit on his laurels and wait for the villain to track him down or steal his girlfriend before he did anything.

I don't know if the situation really called for it, except for the climax of Spider-Man 2.

Hmm, that's still something that's extremely subjective. I personally think he already has a flawless victory.

Point taken.

You didn't answer my question.

It's a rather vague similarity. It's like saying that George Clooney was faithful to the spirit of the modern Batman in his portrayal because he was a millionaire and a socialite.

So you don't want the same thing, but you want the same thing.

Just because a portrayal sticks to the same basics doesn't mean that it couldn't have its own spin.

This is very true. Peter Parker isn't supposed to be a rebellious person, he does it so that he can make sure what happened to his Uncle Ben doesn't happen to anybody else. That's his responsibility.

Talk about premature. We haven't seen that ourselves now have we?

People at Comic Con said great things about Green Lantern too and we all know how that worked out.

It's fine that you personally think TAS will be the better movie but saying it's better than anything we've seen from Raimi's films when you yourself haven't seen it is the definition of blind devotion.

I second this.

I don't get the impression that he's flipping the bird to the man at all. If he was, he wouldn't have been so submissive and understanding with Uncle Ben's scolding him in the school hallway.
