The Amazing Spider-Man Spider-Man Reboot Costume Part 4 - "What's that in his eye??" - Part 5

I really think the set photos don't do the suit any favors.

Some do and some don't. That's the thing with set photos and videos.

Sorry, but what about putting something in motion would suddenly make the lines disappear...? If they're dark in still images, they'll be dark in moving ones...

I'd love to get into a discussion that goes nowhere but the party is at the Batman section at the moment.

Ciao. :fhm:

Godzilla, I know we all have our opinions, and I respect your opinion on the new suit... even if I disagree with you on it. I just don't want other people to jump in and start an argument that we've all seen before.

"THE NEW SUIT SUCKS BECAUSE..."

"NO, THE NEW SUIT IS AWESOME BECAUSE..."

"NO. RAIMI'S WAS BETTER BECAUSE..."

"NO. WEBB'S IS BETTER BECAUSE..."

True, and we do already have a thread for such debate in the "Spider-Man 1, 2 & 3" board as it is.

Even though I dislike the suit, I would really like to see an interview with Kym Barrett on its design, if for no other reason than to understand the reasoning behind it from the perspective of the people who made it.

I'd like to see that too. Maybe on the Making Of on the DVD.

No ****, which is why I've given up on the whole "Man I love the new suit!", shtick. Why are you being so confrontational lately?

It was a joke.

Not mad at all. Just wondering why you've been trying to provoke me lately.

Damn, I was hoping for more responses to my constructive criticism list from fans of the new suit. Oh well.

I'm offering this as constructive criticism of the new costume design itself: I'm not a fan of the web design on the head. It looks fine from a head-on angle, but it looks really awkward otherwise, such as in profile. I think it would have been much better served with a more traditional concentric pattern.

I really dislike the redesigned gloves. They just look bad, from the way the arm stripes suddenly curve before they meet the glove, to the blue fingers, et cetera.

The stripes down the legs really makes the pants look like jogging pants, and the shoes look out of place.

I hate the inconsistent web pattern that turns to just vertical lines in places. It looks unfinished and lazy.

Overall, the changes bother me because they don't look as good as what came before, in my opinion.

You can take this or leave it, it's just what I don't like about the new suit explained as best I can.

We didn't answer your "constructive criticism" because it isn't constructive criticism. The problem here is that your only acceptable vision of the suit is the classic design. All you did here was do a step by step break down of what you don't like, which we already knew. There's no point in engaging in the discussion anymore. You don't like it. We do. That's all there is to it.

The classic design isn't the only acceptable vision of the suit to me. I was providing reasons for why I don't like the things I don't like, in more detail than just "The suit sucks".

Fixed.

Oh, fudge ****. I actually had it right the first time, but changed it to "you're" for...no reason.

Well--don't take this the wrong way, I'll explain later--you seem to set a specific vision for yourself and then you dislike what parts go against it. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it makes opinion swapping difficult sometimes. For example, in the Green Goblin thread, you had a specific vision of the Green Goblin and most other versions thrown out there, you either didn't like at all or said it needed more work. You have no middle ground, basically. Once again, that isn't bad, you have your own visions and that's great, but exactly how many times is your exact vision going to come true? That doesn't apply to this, because like you said, you just listed the things you don't like rather than the things you consider missing, but I can see where 6592 (That's what I'm calling him, live with it.) made that connection.

You do have a point there.

This I can agree on, but it doesn't really bother me all that much.

I really dislike the redesigned gloves. They just look bad, from the way the arm stripes suddenly curve before they meet the glove, to the blue fingers, et cetera.

I really like the glove designs. They remind me a lot of Ben Reilly's suit, which is my favorite alternate costume. However, the arm stripes still blend with the glove pattern, just in an unconventional way. I like it.

The stripes down the legs really makes the pants look like jogging pants, and the shoes look out of place.

I can't agree with this. Adding stripes to the legs, to me, doesn't make it resemble a track/jogging suit at all. And the only problem I have with the shoes are the color, but it seems like they realize that and are going to change it (RIM said the shoes were red in the VFX footage he saw). Those shoes serve a purpose, and that purpose is to protect Spidey's feet better than socks would.

I hate the inconsistent web pattern that turns to just vertical lines in places. It looks unfinished and lazy.

I really like it, I think it really highlights his tall/skinny body type. A lot of the changes do that, actually.

Overall, the changes bother me because they don't look as good as what came before, in my opinion.

I can understand that. Raimi's suit was the perfect translation of Spidey's suit from the comics. However, I still think this suit does a good job of making it seem like Spider-Man is entering our world, rather than us entering his.

You can take this or leave it, it's just what I don't like about the new suit explained as best I can.

And I respect your opinion, even if I don't particularly agree with it.

Wait wait wait....wait. RIM said the shoes were red?!

socool hit the nail on the head.

You don't have a middle ground. It's Acheson's suit or bust. It's not a bad thing, it just makes debating or discussing with you pointless. Me personally, I love Acheson's suit and this suit. Acheson's suit was a perfect paper to screen translation. But I think the new suit is the perfect 1962 to 2012 translation. I find things to appreciate in both suits. I don't think one is necessarily better than the other. I just like both for what they are.

And I don't recall RIM ever saying that Tyler.

Yes, yes he did. He said they were red in the VFX footage he saw, which may or may not be completely how it will look in the film.

But I specifically remember him saying they were red, because I made a huge sigh of relief when I read it.
